  1. Hey Jack:

Remember the old Nat'l Indoor Tennis Championships during this time of year back in the late '60s?
Almost every year there was snow on the ground making it fun finding a parking place at the Civic Center!

  3. I sure do remember those days. As a matter of fact I just got a message on my Facebook from Jimmy Connors. Hope you all are enjoying the snow and will further enjoy all the slush, etc for the next week or so. I will take my palm trees and beaches like this one in Bora Bora jackkcharl@aol.com

  9. Jack:

Remember when Lamar Hunt from Texas Oil land had the tennis tournament in later years in Salisbury and Jimmy Connors was married at the time to the ex-Playboy Bunny Patti Mcguire? Some guy went up to her in the stands when Connors was playing a match and kissed her on the cheek. Next thing you know we all saw Jimmy run up the stands and "cold cock" the guy!!! Talk about good entertainment.

  10. 7:35 I sure do remember it. I was walking him back to the locker room after a match and Patti (who he is still married to) was walking with us and a young fellow came bounding down the wooden bleachers making a racket and Jimmy turned around and hit him. Hurt his hand a bit and we were concerned about his being able to continue playing the next day. But all turned out well The guy should be glad that Jimmy didn't clock him with that T2000 racquet. Those were some great days in Salisbury. Some super parties too lol jackkcharl@aol.com

  12. Talk about tennis parties, how 'bout tennis pro Turbin Ulrich from Denmark when in town for the torenament would always go down to Lake Street to the "Blue Tango" nightclub and listen to jazz.
The locals there welcomed him like a celebity. I think he opened his own jazz club back in Copenhagen when he retired.

  13. I have a picture of Torbin, myself, Joe Howard and Bob Brown It was during the bi-centennial when we all had beards. Think he also wrecked one of the courtesy cars one year. Great memories

  14. Remember when somebody shot one of the players with a rubber band combo and a pc of #10 ground wire, civic center. Wasnt me, it was Kroupa hes been dead for 31 yrs. Back in the day the delivery people would just drop it off in front of the stores and the early crew when they got there would take it in. Im talking huney bunns, brownies, krispi creames, slim jims and so much more I cant remember. Most the times we would just go to Court Plaza, near the indoor court. Layton owned that stuff. Of course it is there at 5 in the morning. Qusetion Mr Jack, you know F Sturgis?
