2 Bills Would Legalize Medical Marijuana
Laws would be more stringent than other states', Morhaim says
Hoping to make Maryland the 15th state in the nation to legalize medical marijuana, legislators introduced a pair of bills Tuesday in the General Assembly that would let doctors approve access to marijuana for their patients and sanction dispensaries, and even pharmacies, to distribute the drug.
The legislation would allow the use of marijuana by patients who have a "debilitating medical condition," such as seizures, severe chronic pain or severe nausea as a result of cancer treatment. They would have to register with the state and obtain marijuana from state-licensed dispensaries and pharmacies that might be interested in supplying it.
"The overarching goal is to make medical marijuana available, as would be any other serious drug to help patients, with the same protections and judicious use," said Del. Dan Morhaim, a Democrat from Baltimore County and an internist and emergency medical physician, who sponsored the legislation in the House of Delegates. Sen. David Brinkley, a Republican from Frederick, is the bill's sponsor in the Senate.

ReplyDeletemaryland passed this law a few years ago and did nothing with it. they set up no card programs or anything. if you were caught with it then you would have to fight it in court. as someone with a chronic disease "crohn's disease" i know about this all to well. now that they can make some money on it they want dispenseries and such. i have no problem with them making money. just wanted to say this bill was passed bill 502

Legalize all marijuana. Tax it to help pay down the debt and cover health care costs. Piss test people on public assistance and deny them help if they have it in their system.
ReplyDeleteLegalize it, clear the jails of pot heads, stop wating the court's time with possession charges, focus on real crime, get voilence and dangerous drugs off the streets and into the empty jails to stay... problems solved. Revenue from , POT taxes TAX stamps to growers and legal doctor prescribe scripts. I would rather be in the room with a pot head then a prozac, zantec wacko.
ReplyDeleteA small excerpt from my op-ed piece "Marijuana is the flame, heroin is the fuse, LSD is the bomb." regarding marijuana.
ReplyDeleteEarning an honest lower wage, and competing with a retail market is not what drug dealers want. The huge profit multiplier is because of risk. With no risk payment, and the threat of having to do business by the book, dealers will no longer be attracted to marijuana sales. Individuals will not require the assistance of the dealers for marijuana. Dealers will have much less revenue in which to fund other illegal activities. Drug cartels do fund terrorists, and even partake in terrorist activities as a part of the "business". Our government is forcing 30 percent of us, at least once in our lives, to further terrorist activities. This plant, for a majority of all human history, has been legal, widely used, and caused little problem. It was made illegal, and kept that way for unjust reasons of greed and ignorance. So our misguided government is advancing the same terrorism they currently have an expensive war against.
I left Maryland 7 months ago for Cali to get on the medical marijuana program to treat my lateral femoral cutaneous nerve syndrome as well as PTSD and let me tell you, for someone who told the time by what and how many pills i was taking my life has become much better.I'm glad to see my home state finally doing something with this instead of making sick people go fight it in court.I just hope you patients won't have to fight idiot town councils who want to "zone" it to the point of monotony.
