Maryland Teachers Endorse O’Malley, Kratovil

In the words of that great scholar Gomer Pyle, “SURPRISE! SURPRISE! SURPRISE!”.

The Maryland State Teachers Association (now traveling under the moniker “Maryland State Education Association”) has endorsed Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley and Rep. Frank Kratovil for re-election.

Why would this, or any other supposedly non-partisan group, endorse these candidates over one year before the election?  Money.

We need to remember that the MSEA is no more about education than the United Auto Workers.  They are a union, plain and simple.  Their purpose is to get more teachers hired and negotiate higher pay for those teachers.  Their job is make sure that teachers can’t be fired for poor performance and to ensure that teachers’ work as little as possible.  That said, they are no more concerned with providing quality education than the UAW is with making sure that GM, Ford, and Chrysler build quality cars.

To do so, they need to tie themselves to Democrats.  Wait!  I thought that the MSEA was supposed to be non-partisan?

Mary Albero: The Prime Example Of What A Great Mom Is Supposed To Be

Each and every one of us has a Mom we all love and adore. I'd like to share with you some of the reasons why we loved and adored my Mom so much.

Unfortunately Mom and Dad got a divorce in the early 1970's and we lived in California at the time. All of our Family was back East in New York and Maryland, yet we had no money to pack up what little we had and return back to the East Coast.
Without hesitation, Aunt's and Uncle's stepped in and put up whatever it took to get us back home. For the longest time we lived with an Aunt and Uncle in up state New York, crammed into wherever we could fit. We had the best of meals and a roof over our head while we collected ourselves financially, (or I should say, while Mom did so).

The job market wasn't so great in New York, so we packed our bags and used a borrowed family vehicle to make the trip down to Maryland where Mom landed a job with Volkswagen of America. Surprisingly, it was a really good paying job with the opportunity for advancement, so Mom went back to School for Bookkeeping and moved up the ladder pretty quickly. She worked every minute she could collecting overtime on weekends and staying late during the week.

Eventually we were able to rent a home in Bowie with some help from another Uncle and a brand new used car. Man, it was a beautiful Cutlass Supreme and it was the bomb! We all started working very young. We worked the school system so we could get work permits younger than usual because of our financial situation. My eldest brother not only went to school full time, he also worked in the evenings full time and always came home with straight A's. Frank was always there to balance things out for all of us and we depended on him quite a bit. The poor guy grew up so fast, he had no chance at anything close to a regular childhood. No baseball, football, you know the drill.

There came a time when a letter came in the mail that would shock us to no end. Frank was accepted into the United States Coast Guard Academy. Man were we ever proud! However, in Frank's mind there was absolutely no way he was leaving his Family, yet this was a FREE education. After promising we'd never argue again, we'd work really hard to make things work. After much coaxing by Aunt's and Uncle's, Frank reluctantly went to the Coast Guard Academy and finished in the top of his class. His Wife Joanne was the first woman in history to be accepted into the USCGA where the two met and married immediately after their graduation.

Both served the Coast Guard as Officers until just recently where they both retired. I could be wrong with my numbers but I think the Coast Guard actually paid them like $14.00 a week while in the Academy and let me tell you, 100% of his paycheck went directly home to Mom. Heck, when we were kids, every one of us old enough to hold a job gave Mom 100% of our paychecks. I can recall being in Jr. High School and always leaving really early in the morning to head off to school so I could take my lunch money and buy candy bars. I'd then sell them for more money in school to the more fortunate kids with money and little by little I'd raise enough money to buy a new pair of sneakers. We didn't have to steal from people, we'd find ways to earn it.

Because we grew up the way we did, each and every one of the men in my Family became the absolute best providers you'll ever see. Jennifer often wonders why I'm so tight with money. You know, live a little. We do that but I'm sure its tempting to go out and blow some of it on things we may not "need." However, I'd guess that most of you truly don't know what the meaning of the word "need" really is.

A trip to McDonald's for the Albero Family was Christmas to us. We were a Family far too proud to go on welfare, yet we probably needed it more than any other Family I ever knew. We were fortunate to have neighbors that would take out their Boats and go fishing on the Bay and stop by the Albero house and drop off fresh fish so we had something special and different to eat. Blue Fish was a luxury in the Albero household when we were kids.

Man, I could go on and on with so many cool stories about how much we appreciated just about anything along the way but by now I'm sure you can appreciate where I'm going. We simply appreciated anything that came our way and when someone believed in us we gave back even more.

Fortunately over time each and every one of us were able to find good jobs, create businesses and ultimately became very successful. Once we were secure, Mom knew she could retire and give back to God the way God gave to us, unconditionally. Yesterday the phones started ringing off the hook. Old friends who had heard the news through the grapevine were instantly calling. Mom was so well respected by so many of these friends because as we all grew older, all of a sudden my Mom was the best Mom they had ever known. Once we all started seeing how difficult it was to provide for our own new Families, (without depending on our parents) they all had a new respect for what Mary Albero had done for her children.

When Mom retired she got involved with Mary's Pro Life Center. She wanted to encourage as many young ladies as she could to keep their child and show them how it can be done, no matter how difficult. I can't tell you how many children there are here on this earth because of my Mom.

So why don't I throw away my old clothes that don't fit any more? Why do I have 15 cars in my driveway and I never get rid of them? Why do I buy a store brand product at times? Why do I live well below my means? Because one day, God Forbid, times get tough on any one of my Family Members, I'm going to be there for them, no questions asked. Granted, it's going to be for necessities but they'll never wait in a line for food stamps. They'll never collect welfare. They'll never be without a car and if you ask my Ex Wife, they'll never wait at the mailbox in the beginning of the month waiting for a child support check.

Mom drove a brand new car each and every year for the past 25 years. Mom traveled to see the Pope and her yearly vacations were spent on retreats with the Church because that's what she chose to do. Mom gave everything she had to provide for her children and one thing I can assure you of is that Mom never had to worry about anything, yet she never asked for anything outside what she "needed."

No more brand new used cars. Mom had transportation to get anywhere she wanted without ever having to worry about being stranded. When Mom passed away she knew that her work had been done. She shared her wisdom with her children and made sure she never had to worry about any one of us. Mom left us knowing that if any one of us fell upon hard times, one, (or more) of us would always be there for the other. That's what Family is supposed to be all about.

The thing I loved and appreciated the most about my Mother was what she gave back to others. The priceless smile on her face when all the Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren came to her side only a few days ago to say goodbye.

When Mom passed away on Tuesday, after a while I went outside her home to just kind of be alone. My Brother John was standing outside, pointed to the sky and said, "Look at that Joe." There was a Bald Eagle circling above her home. We watched as she went higher and higher, almost to a height you could barely see her. No cancer, just as free as can be. Mom was free. No more wondering where she'd get the cash to pay the tolls and gas to drive to New York to see Family. No more cancer.

Mom left this earth with a peace most other Families in our old Bowie neighborhood would have ever imagined. While some old neighbor looked down on us, many also saw one heck of a Family. Many called us when it snowed so much they needed their driveway shoveled and they knew the Albero kids would be there right away to clear them out. When some knew we were falling on tough times, the phone would ring and a neighbor would say, can you come over and mow my lawn.

So for those of you who stated Joe Albero inherited his fortunes, you were exactly right. I inherited riches from my Mother money just can't buy, God, Love, Family, Responsibility, being there for others. No one in my Family reached into their pockets and gave Joe Albero the money to own a manufacturing company or all of the other business I have owned. Joe Albero proudly worked for everything I have ever owned. Joe Albero paid off everything I have ever owned to make 100% sure it couldn't be taken away. Joe Albero secured it all so if Mom, my Brothers, my Sister or any one of those Aunt's and Uncle's that believed in us EVER needed anything, I'd be there to deliver.

Yeah, I could drive a Bentley. Heck, I could have a full time driver if I wanted to. What's it worth Folks! If ANY one of you are impressed with what I own, you just don't know Joe Albero very well then. If you are fortunate enough to truly know who Joe Albero is, well, that's worth far more than any money could ever buy. My Mother lives on in each and every one of her children and especially within ALL of those pregnant Mothers who came to Mary's Center in need of advice, counseling, diapers, you name it.

On Saturday, Sacred Heart Church celebrated my Mother's life in a Text Book Catholic Church Mass. Sadly, (in my personal opinion) they missed the mark in many ways. While I can understand why they delivered the information they did about my Mother, three Catholic Priests shared their experiences with Mary Albero, all based around the Church. It was about an hour long Mass, so I could see why they didn't expand any further but there was so much more to Mary Albero than her religious beliefs.

Mary Albero was a very funny and humbled woman. Mary Albero loved her children and adored her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren like there was no tomorrow. But mostly she was the best Mother I could have ever asked for. May she rest in peace.

Ariz. Sheriff Launches Immigration Sweep

SURPRISE, Ariz. — An Arizona sheriff known for cracking down on people who are in the country illegally launched a crime and immigration sweep in northwestern metro Phoenix on Friday, a half day after officials in Washington limited his powers to make federal immigration arrests.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, whose sweeps have led to allegations of racial profiling, said the rebuff from Washington won't stop him. He said he can still arrest immigrants under a state smuggling law and a federal law that gives all local police agencies more limited power to detain suspected illegal immigrants.

"It doesn't bother me, because we are going to do the same thing," said Arpaio, whose deputies had arrested 16 people by Friday evening on unspecified charges. "I am the elected sheriff. I don't take orders from the federal government."

The officers were participating in a federal program that grants a limited number of local police departments special powers to make immigration arrests and speed up deportation. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement stripped Arpaio of his power to let 100 deputies make federal immigration arrests, but renewed another agreement that allows 60 jails officers to determine the immigration status of people in jail.

The sheriff's sweeps in some heavily Latino areas of metro Phoenix have drawn criticism that Arpaio's deputies racially profile people. Arpaio said people pulled over in the sweeps were approached because deputies had probable cause to believe they had committed crimes and that it was only afterward that deputies found many of them were illegal immigrants.

The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating Arpaio's office over allegations of discrimination and unconstitutional searches and seizures.

"He is doing this to thumb his nose at the Obama administration," said Lydia Guzman, president of the Hispanic civil rights group Somos America.

The sweeps have discouraged some Hispanics who have witnessed or been victims of crime to refuse to call Arpaio's deputies, for fear of mistreatment, Guzman said.

Observers who are part of Guzman's group fanned out across the area of the sweeps with video cameras to record exchanges between deputies and motorists.

Arpaio said volunteers will use cameras owned by his agency to video-record deputies so viewers can see for themselves that they weren't doing anything wrong. Arpaio responded angrily to a question during a news conference about the costs of the cameras, saying they were paid through seizures in drug cases. "Dope peddlers bought the cameras," Arpaio said.

A dozen anti-Arpaio protesters yelled throughout the news conference. At one point, they chanted: "Order equals K-K-K — here's what Arpaio has to say."

Kris Kobach, a law professor at the University of Missouri at Kansas City and an advocate of expanding local immigration efforts, said Arpaio's office — like every other local police agency — can detain people suspected of immigration violations for a day or two until federal authorities come to pick them up.

In the past, Arpaio could have held such immigrants for longer than two days and conducted investigations of smuggling rings, Kobach said.

"It's really a slight narrowing, but it's not much," said Kobach, who worked as an immigration law adviser to then-U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft from 2001-2003.

Dan Pochoda, legal director for the American Civil Liberties Union, which is representing people who filed a lawsuit over the sweeps, said Arpaio still can't pull over motorists solely because they are suspected of being illegal immigrants.

"He can't do it under the terms he is claiming. He has indicated that he can stop people without the suspicion, based on what they look like, what they sound like," Pochoda said.

Arpaio said the Bush administration had no complaints about his use of the special federal powers, but all that has changed with the Obama administration.

"What's changed?" Arpaio asked. "Politics has changed, because they don't like us going on the streets to catch illegals."

This round of sweep, Arpaio's 12th, is set to end late Saturday.

6 Firefighters Die In Smoke-Filled Elevator

Mechanical failure traps victims as they attempted to reach blaze in India

MUMBAI, India
- Six firefighters died early Sunday after they were trapped in a smoke-filled elevator while trying to reach a fire in a building in India's financial capital, an official said.

The firefighters were on their way to a burning 14th floor apartment in Mumbai and apparently died from asphyxiation due to smoke, a city fire brigade official said on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to talk to reporters.

The elevator got stuck between two floors due to a mechanical failure, the official said, and efforts by other firefighters to rescue them failed.

Rich? Not You, Not Me?

This is the last part of the piece at http://victorhanson.com/articles/hanson101609PF.html

********************************************************

Rich? Not you, not me?

All the news agencies picked up this USA Today story: “Democrats in the House today represent a combination of both the wealthiest and poorest districts across the nation, a different composition than in 2005, a USA Today analysis of Census data indicated Wednesday. Democrats now represent 57 percent of the 4.8 million households that had incomes of $200,000 or more in 2008. In 2005, Republicans represented 55 percent of those affluent households.”

This seems to be an enormously revealing, but mostly neglected, story:

a) It gives credence to the old impression that the modern Democratic Party is not sensitive to the middle-class complaint that the wealthy can afford the redistribution of money to the poor that falls inordinately on the middle class who can’t.

b) We have not seen Obama’s promised tax hikes yet. When the lifting of FICA caps, the increase in income taxes on the top brackets, surcharges for healthcare, etc. are enacted, will those who make over $200,000 continue to support the huge new entitlements and deficit spending? It was easy to rail against Bush as heartless when he cuts your taxes, but will it be so easy to encourage Obama’s spending sprees when yours are actually raised?

c) There is something very Roman about this, in the sense of the upper-classes seeking exemption from popular outcry at their exalted status, by a sort of bread-and-circuses entitlement insurance policy. In more practical purposes, the survey would mean in my work area, that those in the Redwood City barrio and those in the East Palo Alto ghetto, who draw more inordinately on food stamps, housing subsidies, and Medical, have a natural affinity with those in $3 million homes in the rather apartheid Palo Alto and Atherton — but neither so much with the working classes in a Sunnyvale or Milpitas (more racially diverse communities than either Atherton or Redwood City). The rich offer bromides for the poor, but are exempt by their capital from the consequences should such social policy prove ill thought-out. Apparently a lawyer who makes $250,000 and hears constantly Obama’s now tiresome rant about the “rich” either thinks that his own liberality exempts him from the charge that he has ill-gotten gains; or that he has enough that an extra 20-30K in income and payroll taxes won’t matter that much; or that Obama will treat taxation as he has Guantanamo — a strident talking point that remains that. (Most likely he will just let the Bush tax cuts naturally expire, and say ‘they’, not he, hiked taxes on the middle classes.)

A GOVERNMENT BEING RUN BY TRAITORS

Section 8, Article 1 of the United States Constitution calls for the Federal Government to provide for the common defense. The country is being deluged with illegal's, crossing our borders 24/7. Every member of law enforcement should be working to apprehend and deport those people, that have broken our immigration laws. In the most outrageous contempt for the Constitution, local law enforcement officers have been ordered to cease enforcing the law.

Sheriff Joe Ariapo of Maricopa County, Arizona is attempting to enforce the law. He has been ordered by the Federal Government to no longer arrest people for being illegally in this country. It is alleged his deputies are engaging in profiling and perhaps, they are. Most if not all of the illegal's being stopped are Latino's, who else would you suspect would be crossing the border from Mexico? Does Homeland Security Secretary, Napolitano think only people that appear to be from Northern Europe should be investigated?

This government is not the first to disregard the Constitution they swore to uphold. Where is the Constitutional authority to subsidize farms, bail out banks or take over car companies? However, the prevention of law enforcement from doing their sworn job is, in my opinion, TREASON. I have no illusion that this congress or this attorney general will see the folly of this action and act to remedy the unjust order. We are supposed to be a country of laws, when will the federal government obey the constitution, the supreme law of the land?

Three Married Men And The Women That Loved Them

The first man married a woman from Missouri . He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day, he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away.

The second man married a woman from Idaho .. He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. The first day he didn't see any results, but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done and there was a huge dinner on the table.

The third man married a Italian girl from New York . He ordered her to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything but by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye, and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher.

Democrats Can’t Discuss Issues in 2009

Democrats, and their cohorts in the media, love to accuse Republicans of “going negative” and “not talking about the issues”;  that is, until issues aren’t on their side.  Two cases in point – the New Jersey and Virginia governors’ races.

New Jersey -

Gov. John Corzine (D-NJ) has a record that any self-respecting politician would be ashamed of.  Unemployment is the highest it’s been in a generation.  Property taxes are spiraling out of control.  Is Corzine talking about how he’ll help make New Jersey better IF voters are stupid enough to re-elect him?  Absolutely not!

Virginia -

Things aren’t any better below the Mason-Dixon line.  GOP standard bearer Bob McDonnell has run an issues based campaign centered on bringing jobs to Virginia and not raising taxes.  His opponent, Creigh Deeds, seems capable of only piping in “ME TOO” on issues and smearing McDonnell’s character.

Deeds’s biggest issue to date has been Bob McDonnell’s thesis paper:

This shouldn’t be surprising given that Deeds wants to raise taxes and even supports Obama administration policies which will close a large employer in his own senatorial district – costing 1,400 Virginians their jobs:

No, issues need only be discussed when they promote a statist agenda.

Obama Will Surrender America To World Government

The Minnesota Free Market Institute hosted an event at Bethel University in St. Paul on Wednesday evening. Keynote speaker Lord Christopher Monckton, former science adviser to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, warned the American people to stop Obama from signing a ‘global climate treaty’ at the climate change conference in Copenhagen in December that will ultimately surrender U.S. sovereignty to a World Government under the guise of helping the environment.

The Race Card, Football And Me

My critics would have you believe no conservative meets NFL 'standards.'

David Checketts, an investor and owner of sports teams, approached me in late May about investing in the St. Louis Rams football franchise. As a football fan, I was intrigued. I invited him to my home where we discussed it further. Even after informing him that some people might try to make an issue of my participation, Mr. Checketts said he didn't much care. I accepted his offer.

It didn't take long before my name was selectively leaked to the media as part of the Checketts investment group. Shortly thereafter, the media elicited comments from the likes of Al Sharpton. In 1998 Mr. Sharpton was found guilty of defamation and ordered to pay $65,000 for falsely accusing a New York prosecutor of rape in the 1987 Tawana Brawley case. He also played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot (he called neighborhood Jews "diamond merchants") and 1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot.

Not to be outdone, Jesse Jackson, whose history includes anti-Semitic speech (in 1984 he referred to Jews as "Hymies" and to New York City as "Hymietown" in a Washington Post interview) chimed in. He found me unfit to be associated with the NFL. I was too divisive and worse. I was accused of once supporting slavery and having praised Martin Luther King Jr.'s murderer, James Earl Ray.

Next came writers in the sports world, like the Washington Post's Michael Wilbon. He wrote this gem earlier this week: "I'm not going to try and give specific examples of things Limbaugh has said over the years because I screwed up already doing that, repeating a quote attributed to Limbaugh (about slavery) which he has told me he simply did not say and does not reflect his feelings. I take him at his word. . . . "

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

In 1912, New York Giants outfielder Fred Snodgrass drops an easy pop-up in the 10th inning of the tie breaking eighth game of the World Series against the Boston Red Sox. His error led to a two run Boston rally and cost the Giants the championship. The reason they played eight games is that game number 2 ended in a 6-6 tie when it became too dark to play.

NEED WASHING??

A little girl had been shopping with her Mom in Target. She must have been 6 years old, this beautiful red haired, freckle faced image of innocence.

It was pouring outside. The kind of rain that gushes over the top of rain gutters, so much in a hurry to hit the earth it has no time to flow down the spout. We all stood there, under the awning, just inside the door of the Target.

We waited, some patiently, others irritated because nature messed up their hurried day.

I am always mesmerized by rainfall… I got lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust of the world. Memories of running, splashing so carefree as a child came pouring in as a welcome reprieve from the worries of my day.

Her little voice was so sweet as it broke the hypnotic trance we were all caught in, 'Mom let's run through the rain,' she said.

'What?' Mom asked..

'Let's run through the rain!' She repeated.

'No, honey. We'll wait until it slows down a bit,' Mom replied.

This young child waited a minute and repeated: 'Mom, let's run through the rain.'

'We'll get soaked if we do,' Mom said.

'No, we won't, Mom. That's not what you said this morning,' the young girl said as she tugged at her Mom's arm.

'This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?'

'Don't you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, 'If God can get us through this, he can get us through anything!''

The entire crowd stopped dead silent. I swear you couldn't hear anything but the rain. We all stood silently. No one left. Mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say.

Now some would laugh it off and scold her for being silly. Some might even ignore
what was said. But this was a moment of affirmation in a young child's life. A time when innocent trust can be nurtured so that it will bloom into faith.

'Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through the rain. If GOD let's us get wet, well maybe we just need washing,' Mom said.

Then off they ran. We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they darted past the cars and yes, through the puddles. They got soaked.

They were followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars. And yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. I needed washing.

Circumstances or people can take away your material possessions, they can take away your money, and they can take away your health. But no one can ever take away your precious memories...So, don't forget to make time and take the opportunities to make memories everyday.

To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven.

I HOPE YOU STILL TAKE THE TIME TO RUN THROUGH THE RAIN.

Crime

Maybe the issue is not Salisbury, its the politicians. I just got a concealed permit for five years which was $55.00. I got it so I would be grandfathered in in case Obama does something stupid. I did not need it. Why does mAryland make it so hard for innocent people to keep safe and allow criminals back on the street?

This is good reading but no one will ever admit it.

VIOLENT CRIME RATES - GUN CONTROL - THE NUMBERS DON'T LIE

NH - a state where people can still pretty much “live Free”! No seat belt law, no mandatory auto insurance law (if you get pulled over, the officer will ask “license and registration”), no helmet law, no income tax, no sales tax. NH has a part time state legislature; and the legislators get paid a $200 stipend for a two-year term.

As for firearms, we have no “assualt weapons” ban, no “high cpacity magazine” ban, no need for a state card or permit to purchase a firearm (re: NJ Firearms Purchaser Identification Card and the Permit to Purchase a Handgun), open carry of handguns is legal, and NH has a “shall issue” concealed carry permit (you fill out a one page, one sided form, a background check is run, and then you pay $10.00 for a 4 year permit).

And yet, even with all this "freedom", New Hampshire consistantly ranks in the top 5 states with the LOWEST violent crime rate per 100,000 inhabitants (in 2007 NH was 3rd @137.3 - Maine was 1st @ 118.0 - and Vermont was 2nd @ 124.3). North and South Dakota rounded out the top 5 lowest (North Dakota 4th @ 142.4 - South Dakota 5th @ 169.2).

NH's violent crime rate per 100,000 actually went down (1.4) from 2006 to 2007 (2006 @ 138.7 - 2007 @137.3). Vermont had an even bigger drop (9.3) in 2007 (2006 @ 136.6 - 2007 @124.3). Vermont, that's the state that requires NO PERMIT whatsoever to carry a concealed handgun.

Of course, the place in the United States with the HIGHEST violent crime rate per 100,000 inhabitants in 2007 is: Washington DC @ 1,414.3. That is almost TWICE the total of the 2nd Highest violent crime rate, South Carolina @ 788.3. Tennessee came in 3rd @ 753.3, Nevada 4th @ 750.6, Louisiana 5th @ 729.5, and Florida 6th @ 722.6. (No other state scored above 700 per 100,000).

(see: 2007 FBI Report: Crime in the United States - by Region, Geographic Division, and State, 2006-2007 {Violent Crime}
http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2007/data/table_04.html ).

The US Department of Justice (BATFE) publishes the “State Laws and Published Ordinances - Firearms: 2007 / 28th Edition”: a publication that lists each of the 50 State's gun laws and statues, listed state by state.

Vermont 's gun laws and statues take up a little over 1 Page (449 + 1/4 of 450), while New Hampshire's takes up almost 3 Pages (283, 284, + 2/3 of 285). Remember, they have the 2nd and 3rd LOWEST violent crime rates in the US (Vermont @ 124.3 + NH @137.3).

In contrast, California's gun laws and statues takes up 68 Pages (20 to 88), while New York's takes up 28 Pages (305 to 332). Just how did those pages and pages of gun laws affect the violent crime rate per 100,000 inhabitants in New York and California in 2007? Well, New York had a rate of 414.1 per 100,000, while California came in at 522.6 per 100,000.

Hey, California; whats going on? You have at least 65 pages more of "gun laws and statues" over and above that of Vermont and NH, and yet you have FOUR TIMES the Violent Crime rate! Going by the gun banners logic, with all those extra gun control laws to protect you, your violent crime rate should be at least 65 times LOWER than that of Vermont and NH, no?

Well, the numbers don't lie! And they shatter the MYTH that the More Gun Control Laws we enact, the safer we will be!

FEDERAL CHESAPEAKE BAY RESTORATION BILL

GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY TO JOIN SENATOR CARDIN, CONGRESSMAN CUMMINGS TO ANNOUNCE FEDERAL CHESAPEAKE BAY RESTORATION BILL

ANNAPOLIS, MD
– Governor Martin O’Malley will join Senator Benjamin Cardin, Congressman Elijah Cummings, and regional environmental leaders to formally announce the Senator’s Chesapeake Bay Clean Water and Ecosystem Restoration Act. This critical legislation would give states and local governments in the Chesapeake Bay watershed strong, new enforcement tools and more than $1.5 billion in new grant authority to restore the Bay’s health. This bill establishes a flexible pollution trading program designed to lower compliance costs, provide specific financial incentives for farmers to implement conservation practices and put the force of law behind President Obama’s Executive Order requiring every federal department to work toward restoration of the Chesapeake Bay.

Postponed: Indian River Inlet Bridge Open House & Site Tour

Saturday, October 17, 2009 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Rehoboth Beach -- The Delaware Department of Transportation and Skanska USA Civil Southeast, Inc. (Skanska) announces that due to heavy rain and winds, which is likely to cause severe coastal flooding, the "Open House" for the Indian River Inlet Bridge project has been postponed.

Given that the area frequently floods during such weather events, which would prevent safe travel of the trolley performing site tours, the decision was made to postpone the outdoor event to a future date.
