Lubbock, TX, Mystery
Notice that it would be hard to land in Lubbock, Texas and not see this.
After many reported sightings, these images were allegedly recorded in mid-August of 2009. They are of a field approximately 1 mile north-east of Preston Smith International airport, Lubbock , Texas , from varying points of view. The messages are certainly of mysterious origins, with some believing that they may be related to the infamous crop circles of Great Britain . Some however, believe that they could possibly be enigmatic communiques from beyond, or may be from beings much more advanced and wiser than ourselves. You decide...
News Flash - Obama Wins Heisman Trophy
"He's a heck of a basketball player and we saw him throwing a ball really well to his dog Sasha earlier this year in the Rose Garden" stated Aaron Duckandcover, Awards Director for the NCAA.
Responding to critics of this years surprise choice, Duckandcover went on: "It has nothing to do with actual on-the-ground accomplishments. This award is intended to give hope to all the athletes and non-athletes of the world; hope that even in the absence of real performance, they too can be given awards for their good intentions, future promise and current popularity."
President Obama was unavailable for comment as he was back in the Rose Garden having a smoke.
HISTORICAL MOMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER
The History of the Wicomico Free Library
The roots of the Wicomico Free Library extend back in time to 1869 when a circulating library was started in a store at Main and Dock (Market) streets. After a time interest waned and for twenty-five years the town was without the semblance of a library. A circulating library with sixty members was opened in the armory March 3, 1918 with Miss Victoria Wailes the librarian.
The library was soon moved to a one-story sheet steel building on Division at the head of Camden Street. Mrs. Harry W. Wailes was the librarian. When the structure, formerly a bus depot, was razed in 1923 to clear the site for the new Wicomico Hotel, the library was moved to East Main Street where Mrs. S. King White became the librarian.
In February, 1925, local organizations formed the Salisbury Alliance to sponsor the county’s first free library. It was incorporated September 29, 1927. In 1932 the city and county agreed to share in the operating costs and the library was moved to larger quarters on Camden Street.
Walter S. Sheppard was president of the Board of Trustees when it sought public support for erection of a library building at High and Bush streets. The two-story brick building was occupied August 20, 1954. Meantime, the County Commissioners in 1947 agreed to include operating expenses of the library in its annual budget, the appropriation to be matched by the state. From that point the library began a rapid growth with expanding services and book inventory. The librarian, Mrs. S. King White, retired in April 1948 after serving twenty-five years. In that year also, the Junior Chamber of Commerce purchased a bookmobile to make the library available to communities elsewhere in the county. During the next two years Mrs. Martha Morris and Mrs. Susan Gray were librarians for relatively brief periods.
Mrs. Fred M. Horsley became the library’s administrator in 1950. By the early 1960’s the constantly increasing patronage created a need for larger facilities. A similar situation had occurred at the Police Department in City Hall. By coincidence the First Regiment armory, having been vacated for a more appropriate facility had been turned over to the city by the state. An agreement was negotiated whereby the city would move the Police Department to the library building and the library would occupy the vacant armory. City and county each agreed to contribute $50,000 toward renovating the armory for library use. E. Dale Adkins headed a building committee to raise public contributions of $176,000 to defray the remainder of the renovation expenses. The moves were made in 1962. A year later the Legislature enacted a law founding the Eastern Shore Regional Materials Resources Center which was also situated in the former armory with the County library.
In June, 1978, Mrs. Horsley retired after 28 years as administrator. She was succeeded by Arthur H. Goetz. At the same time, the latest renovation and extensive expansion of the building was started. The present modern institution was dedicated with U. S. Senator Paul S. Sarbanes, a native Salisburian, making the keynote speech.

WILL HISTORY BE REPEATED?
In a letter to his sister Chamberlain wrote on May 28, 1939, Chamberlain said, "No doubt the Jews aren't a lovable people, I don't care about them myself, but that is not sufficient to explain the pogrom." Are our current overtures to Iran any different?
Clement Attlee commented on February 22, 1939, "Mr. Chamberlain views everything from the wrong end of a municipal drain pipe." Remarkably, in only eleven days in office, Obama proved himself superior to either Chamberlain or Hitler. Quite an accomplishment.

Smith's Planned Move Fuels Talk Of Possible Run For State Senate
Some speculate he will seek state Senate seat
Baltimore County Executive James T. Smith Jr. is selling his home of 41 years in Reisterstown and plans to move next month into an apartment in Cockeysville, a downsizing that has set off speculation that he will run for the state Senate in the legislative district there.
Term-limited in the executive job, Smith, a lifelong Democrat who has served as county councilman and judge, has stated repeatedly that he intends to remain in public service. He told The Baltimore Sun in May that he was looking at statewide offices, and with a campaign account in excess of $1 million, he had been expected to challenge Democratic Comptroller Peter Franchot in a primary.
But he announced in July that he was not seeking the job as state tax collector, saying it would not be a good fit for him.
By establishing residency in the 7th District, which includes sections of Baltimore and Harford counties, he could seek the Senate seat held since 1999 by Republican Andrew P. Harris, who is planning to run for Congress a second time.
"I will have plenty of time ... to decide," said the 67-year-old Smith. "This move just makes it possible to run for the Senate. I am considering it as an available option."
Harris lost his first bid for Congress last year in a close contest with Democrat Frank Kratovil in the 1st District. He said yesterday he expects to quit the Senate and challenge Kratovil next year.
"I will probably vacate my Senate seat," Harris said, adding that he has months before the filing deadline to make an official announcement.

Campaign Slogan Equals Nobel Peace Prize
Dr. Jim Pelura, Chairman of the MDGOP, issued the following statement: "It is unfortunate that the Nobel Committee has diminished the prestige of this award by using a campaign slogan as the main criteria for this award."
President Obama can be credited with a catchy phrase but not with any significant program or action to further world peace."

FIRST LADY KATIE O’MALLEY TO ATTEND 2009 DOGFEST
ANNAPOLIS, MD – First Lady Katie O’Malley this Saturday will attend the 2009 Dogfest, an all day event for dogs hosted by the Baltimore Humane Society. First Lady O’Malley will judge for the main contest at 12:30: Best Costume
“It is an honor to attend the 2009 Dogfest and to join the Baltimore Humane Society and other animal lovers. In our home, we have three dogs — Lady, Rex and Winnie —and two cats – Butch and Zoe – that we consider part of our family,” said First Lady Katie O’Malley. “Especially in light of recent incidents of animal cruelty, we must do what we can to be the voices for our animal friends, protect them from harm, and prevent any future cruelty from happening again in our State.”
Dogfest festivities will go on all day from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and benefits the Baltimore Humane Society, which has been in existence in Maryland for over 86 years. Legislators from across the State, as well as community leaders and animal advocates will also be in attendance. Over 65 animal rescue groups will be at the event including the SPCA, Defenders of Animal Rights, Partnerships for Animal Welfare. Some of day’s activities include Dog Contests, Dog Games, Pet Education, Dog Swimming Pools, Horseback Riding, Cat Rescue and over 100 dogs and cats that will be there for adoption to good homes. The First Lady will judge the Best Costume at 12:30 p.m. in front of the 101.9 Lite FM tower.
Earlier this year, in response to the burning of a pit bull in Baltimore City, Governor O’Malley asked Attorney General Doug Gansler to review the sufficiency of Maryland’s animal cruelty laws to determine if these laws need to be updated to prevent similar kinds of heinous crimes from happening again in Maryland. The City of Baltimore, under Mayor Sheila Dixon, has established the Anti-Animal Abuse Task Force to combat animal abuse in Baltimore. A representative from Governor O’Malley’s office serves on the task force.
