BREAKING: Porsche Offices Raided On Suspicion Of Stock Manipulation
The German prosecutor's office seized documents amidst the allegations of stock price manipulation and insider trading, prompting Porsche to issue a statement denying the allegations while vowing complete cooperation (available after the jump). The probe stems from the sports car maker's attempt to gain control of parent Volkswagen, and the investigation is reportedly focusing on recently departed CEO Wendelin Wiedeking as well as ex-CFO Holger Haerter.
As you may recall, Porsche had tried to take over VW back in May, but that maneuver failed because of the company's swirling debt and a veto on the action by Lower Saxony. Porsche has since been swallowed up by the very company it was once seeking to take over, with an additional stake going to Qatar investors. You can read more by clicking on the link below, but be sure to hit the jump to read Porsche's official statement.

Md. Unemployment Up To 7.3%, But New Jobs Added
Unemployment increased in Maryland last month, but so did the number of jobs, as employers filled 10,000 new positions, the Labor Department said Friday.
That's a turnaround from June, when companies shed 4,400 jobs from their payrolls, according to federal estimates. The numbers are preliminary, which means they could change.
Last month's job creation wasn't enough to keep the unemployment rate from ticking up to 7.3 percent, from 7.2 percent the month before.
Even with the extra jobs, Maryland had 50,000 fewer positions last month than a year ago.
The estimates are adjusted to try to account for seasonal changes in hiring and layoffs.

UPDATE On School Bus Crash This Morning
New Castle: The operator of the school bus was Brenda Swierk, 45, of Bear, Delaware.

The bus was occupied by 35 students. In the end, 10 students were treated and released at Christiana Hospital.
Mr. Guzman-Diaz was also treated and released at Christiana Hospital. He was cited with Failure to Remain Stopped at a Stop Sign.
Ms. Swierk was not injured in this crash. The remaining students on the bus were either transported to school on another bus or went home with their parents.
The roadway was shut down for approximately three hours. It should be noted that in this crash, the school bus went through a guard rail which will have to be replaced.
Coming Soon - Cash For Clunkers: Home Appliance Edition
Now that it's ending, you thought you were done hearing about the Cash for Clunkers program, didn't you? Not yet. Coming soon will be a state-administered, federally-funded program providing rebates to consumers who buy Energy Star appliances. Check out Consumer Reports for a preview.
As a part of the Obama Administration's economic stimulus bill to encourage the purchase of energy-efficient appliances, the $300 million appliance-rebate program will soon dole out amounts that could reach $200 if you buy Energy Star-qualified models. Appliances that qualify for the Star should use roughly 10 to 25 percent less energy than the maximum allowed for that category by the Department of Energy, which monitors the Energy Star program.
Unlike the Cash for Clunkers car program, you won't have to turn in your old appliance to get the rebate. But states are expected to have recycling plans for the flood of old appliances the program could unleash. And while the money is coming from Washington, how much you get for which appliance will be a state-by-state decision.
OC Emergency Services Issue Update On Hurricane Bill
The following will be the last update for Hurricane Bill, unless conditions change and cause a correction in the current forecast:
Bill is forecasted to track well off the U.S. East Coast through Sunday evening. The only forecasted effects from the tropical cyclone will be heavy surf conditions and the resulting high risk of dangerous "Rip Currents", starting this evening. On shore waves will increase in size starting this evening, as well. Saturday evening on shore waves are forecasted to be from 9-11 feet, with a risk of beach some beach erosion during the Saturday and Sunday time periods. A coastal tidal departure may also occur, however, the tidal departure, if at all occurring, will be limited to the Ocean front and not the back bays.
However, DPW has placed "High Water" signs along area's prone to standing water, as a precaution. The "sea Wall" storm gates will remain open, as winds are NOT forecasted to be a concern.
Rain is forecasted to be a high possibility, however, NOT from the Hurricane, but from the system that will be approaching our area, that in effect will cause the Hurricane to remain well off our Coast.
As always, Ocean City Emergency Management will continue to track this Tropical Cyclone and will update, if necessary......

Poll: Americans Losing Faith in Obama
WASHINGTON (Aug. 21) -- A new poll says that Americans, concerned over the future of health care reform and anxious about the growing federal budget deficit, are losing faith in President Barack Obama.
The Washington Post-ABC News survey found that less that half of Americans — 49 percent — say they believe the president will make the right decisions for the country. That's down from 60 percent at the 100-day mark of the Obama presidency.

Off Shore Drilling In Brazil?
U.S. Loan to Brazilian Oil Company Riles Conservatives in Favor of Offshore Drilling
Some see a contradiction in an executive-branch agency facilitating abroad the very kind of energy exploration President Obama opposes domestically.
President Obama has opposed any expanded oil drilling off American shores largely on environmental grounds, turning a deaf ear to conservative cries of "Drill, Baby, Drill."
But now Obama may start hearing cries of "foul" after the U.S. Export-Import Bank promised Petrobras, Brazil's state-owned oil company, $2 billion in loan guarantees to help finance lucrative drilling off the shores of Rio De Janeiro.
Some see a contradiction in an executive branch agency, independent but with board members appointed by the president, facilitating abroad the very kind of energy exploration Obama opposes domestically.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Thursday he wasn't prepared to address the issue.

It was the fourth-straight monthly increase and the highest level of sales since August 2007. Sales had been expected to rise to an annual pace of 5 million, according to economists surveyed by Thomson Reuters.

Rise Of The Super-Rich Hits Sobering Wall
Wealthiest have lost billions in recession; economists see shift in trend
WASHINGTON - The rich have been getting richer for so long that the trend has come to seem almost permanent.
They began to pull away from everyone else in the 1970s. By 2006, income was more concentrated at the top than it had been since the late 1920s. The recent news about resurgent Wall Street pay has seemed to suggest that not even the Great Recession could reverse the rise in income inequality .
But economists say — and data is beginning to show — that a significant change may in fact be under way. The rich, as a group, are no longer getting richer. Over the last two years, they have become poorer. And many may not return to their old levels of wealth and income anytime soon.

The Dollar: Soon To Swoon?
Bearish pronouncements on the greenback from Buffett and Pimco add to the market's unease. Here's what investors need to know
Reports of the demise of the U.S. dollar may be premature. But when some of the world's most powerful investors are warning of the currency's decline, investors take notice.
Berkshire Hathaway (BRKA) Chief Executive Warren Buffett warned in a New York Times op-ed on Aug. 19 that the U.S. debt load threatened to turn the U.S. into a "banana republic economy."
A flood of greenbacks from the Federal Reserve and the Obama and Bush Administrations may be necessary now to prop up the ailing economy, Buffett said. But the government must control its debt in the future—or risk the consequences.
"The dollar's destiny lies with Congress," Buffett wrote.

IS WICOMICO COUNTY’S LIBRARY BOARD DOING A BAIT & SWITCH?
Some months ago, the Library Board issued a slick multi-colored brochure to kickoff the drive for an expensive new library building. It may have been used to get the funding for the consultant’s study that has been used to support the plan to build on the City parking lot "10" at the intersection of Route 50 and Route 13. But the cover of the brochure shows the glitzy new building at a different location – the current site of the library on Division Street.
Folks, it looks like we’ve been scammed!

I'll Bet This Was A Surprise To NBC
Do you believe that the word God should stay in American culture?
NBC this morning had a poll on this question. They had the highest Number of responses that they have ever had for one of their polls, and the Percentage was the same as this:
86% to keep the words, IN God We Trust and God in the Pledge of Allegiance
14% against
That is a pretty 'commanding' public response.
Another Great Comment Worthy Of A Post
1) It doesn't fix whats broken
2) What we have is a Mercedes
3) What's proposed is a Hyundai
4) And still doesn't serve middle Americans
5)Australia's nice
6) Norway & Sweden have good plans, but tax is 80% there. Sounds like there's still work to do, Barack.

ASPIRIN
I HAD NO IDEA YOU SHOULD NOT LAY DOWN.
Why keep aspirin by your bedside?
About Heart Attacks
There are other symptoms of an heart attack
besides the pain on the left arm.
One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating, however these symptoms may also occur less frequently.
Note: There may be no pain in the chest during a heart attack.
The majority of people (about 60%) who had an heart attack during their sleep, did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.
If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water. CALL 911 do NOT lie down
Unlock the front door
Afterwards:
- phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by
- say "heart attack!"
- say that you have taken 2 aspirins.
- take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival and... do NOT lie down

Hymn # 365
With even greater emphasis he said, 'And if I had all the wine in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river.'
And then finally, shaking his fist in the air, he said, 'And if I had all the whiskey in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river.'
Sermon complete, he sat down.
The song leader stood very cautiously and announced with a smile, nearly laughing, 'For our closing song, let us sing Hymn #365, 'Shall We Gather at the River.'

The Truth About Death Counseling
The Truth About Death Counseling
By Charles Krauthammer
WASHINGTON -- Let's see if we can have a reasoned discussion about end-of-life counseling.
We might start by asking Sarah Palin to leave the room. I've got nothing against her. She's a remarkable political talent. But there are no "death panels" in the Democratic health care bills, and to say that there are is to debase the debate.
We also have to tell the defenders of the notorious Section 1233 of H.R. 3200 that it is not quite as benign as they pretend. To offer government reimbursement to any doctor who gives end-of-life counseling -- whether or not the patient asked for it -- is to create an incentive for such a chat.
What do you think such a chat would be like? Do you think the doctor will go on and on about the fantastic new million-dollar high-tech gizmo that can prolong the patient's otherwise hopeless condition for another six months? Or do you think he's going to talk about -- as the bill specifically spells out -- hospice care and palliative care and other ways of letting go of life?
No, say the defenders. It's just that we want the doctors to talk to you about putting in place a living will and other such instruments. Really? Then consider the actual efficacy of a living will. When you are old, infirm and lying in the ICU with pseudomonas pneumonia and deciding whether to (a) go through the long antibiotic treatment or (b) allow what used to be called "the old man's friend" to take you away, the doctor will ask you at that time) what you want for yourself -- no matter what piece of paper you signed five years ago.
You are told constantly how very important it is to write your living will years in advance. But the relevant question is what you desire at the end -- when facing death -- not what you felt sometime in the past when you were hale and hearty and sitting in your lawyer's office barely able to contemplate a life of pain and diminishment.
Well, as pain and diminishment enter your life as you age, your calculations change and your tolerance for suffering increases. In the ICU, you might have a new way of looking at things.
My own living will, which I have always considered more a literary than legal document, basically says: "I've had some good innings, thank you. If I have anything so much as a hangnail, pull the plug." I've never taken it terribly seriously because unless I'm comatose or demented, they're going to ask me at the time whether or not I want to be resuscitated if I go into cardiac arrest. The paper I signed years ago will mean nothing.
And if I'm totally out of it, my family will decide, with little or no reference to my living will. Why? I'll give you an example. When my father was dying, my mother and brother and I had to decide how much treatment to pursue. What was a better way to ascertain my father's wishes: What he checked off on a form one fine summer's day years before being stricken; or what we, who had known him intimately for decades, thought he would want? The answer is obvious.
Except for the demented orphan, the living will is quite beside the point. The one time it really is essential is if you think your fractious family will be only too happy to hasten your demise to get your money. That's what the law is good at -- protecting you from murder and theft. But that is a far cry from assuring a peaceful and willed death, which is what most people imagine living wills are about.
So why get Medicare to pay the doctor to do the counseling? Because we know that if this white-coated authority whose chosen vocation is curing and healing is the one opening your mind to hospice and palliative care, we've nudged you ever so slightly toward letting go.
It's not an outrage. It's surely not a death panel. But it is subtle pressure applied by society through your doctor. And when you include it in a health care reform whose major objective is to bend the cost curve downward, you have to be a fool or a knave to deny that it's intended to gently point you in a certain direction, toward the corner of the sick room where stands a ghostly figure, scythe in hand, offering release.
