I'll Bet This Was A Surprise To NBC

NBC POLL

Do you believe that the word God should stay in American culture?

NBC this morning had a poll on this question. They had the highest Number of responses that they have ever had for one of their polls, and the Percentage was the same as this:

86% to keep the words, IN God We Trust and God in the Pledge of Allegiance

14% against

That is a pretty 'commanding' public response.

  1. And why would this surprise NBC, or anyone else?

  2. Because conservatives hold a monopoly on religion. They are the true Christians in the US and they only like Fox News, meaning NBC is controlled by the devil (i.e Barack Obama) and together they are hell bent on destroying democracy in the US and taking over the world. Where's G.I. Joe when you need em?
(this made me smile on a sunny Friday, hope it does the same for you)

  3. "In God we trust" isn't part of the Pledge of Allegiance.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
So 86% of people don't know the pledge apparently.

  5. I woner if that vast majority realize that the word god was added to the pledge many years after it was written and the actual author of the pledge was an agnostic. probably not

I think that it was added in 1954.

  9. "God" was added to the Pledge to irritate the USSR and their position on organized religion. Done during the early 50s. Not sure it bothered the Commies, though. I believe "In God We Trust " on money is far older and based upon the fact that this nation was founded by those in search of religious freedom, reflecting the fact that they got on a boat and went to where their parents thought they would fall off the end of the world and actually survived, by the grace of God.

  10. To 4:37 PM,

"where their parents thought they would fall off the end of the world"

That is a foolish comment, showing ignorance of any historical facts. The non-education of the public school system is clearly evident.

    READ it again.
The founders of this country DID in fact fear they would fall off the end of what they believed to be a FLAT world.
    What school did you attend?
