  2. Awesome game. Fantastic turnout by the parents and fans - thats the way to represent Delmar. Way to go boys!! You made us extremely proud. It brought back memories of 1985 for me.

  3. Just got back from the game and it was awesome! Just as awesome was the parade through town with the fire department and fans. Those who complained got an earfull tonight as everyone was blowing their horns. I heard some of Hodgson's students remarking before the game that, "We are going to beat those Delmar hillbillies." Well it is great when little Delmar beats the teams from the great upstate. Congrats to the town of Delmar and the Wildcats!!
Afterward I went to North Salisbury for a little shopping. The Salisbury Police were swarming all over the place looking for someone.

  8. Why does school have to be closed tomorrow? I guess sports takes a front seat to academics. It would be great for the school to honor them tomorrow, not Tuesday.

  9. Delmar Delaware school district is closed in honor of the team's victory. Parade, yes. Celebrate, yes. Close school? Ah, no.

  10. Give the kids a free day, they need one, I need one and all of you need one. Tell me Im wrong.

  11. I don't mean to take away from the accomplishment of the football team. They play with heart all year and I'm happy to see them win. I'd even support giving the members the day off from school. What I do NOT support is closing the ENTIRE school. There are maybe 100 people involved with the team. There are about 900 students in the school. Just seems as though the reward doesn't fit the accomplishment. Especially when parents and students hear constantly that academic achievement is vital and important, etc. Unless your sports team wins.

  12. It was a good choice to give the student body the day off. If you were truly conected to the school you would understand. That football program is a family and there is an extended faimily that reaches throughout the school, students, teachers and parents. they deserve it, leave them alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. wow i would have played in highschool and won if i could have free days off from school but life isnt rewarded that way delmar does put out some of the dumbest ppl out in the world me for one lol delmar get a grip

  14. As a teacher in the Delmar school distrct, I am offended by your comment 1:13. Delmar school consistantly turns out the highest test scores in the state, and is ranked as best in the county academically.

  15. Tom had the nerve to stand out there and wave as the parade went by? Someone should have thrown an egg at his face. I hope people ride by his house in the middle of the night blowing the horn.

  16. Well we don't live in that county but our kids are out of school today for scheduled Parent-Teacher conferences......

  20. They can give them all the day off because apparently they have nothing to teach the students right now. The only teaching Delmar seems to do is "to the test".
My son used to come home from school and tell me he watched movies in class that day. The second time he told me that, I asked him, what class was that? He said it was Math class. I asked him what the movie had to do with math and he said it didn't have anything to do with math but the testing was over and they didn't have anything to teach them.
That was the day that I stopped believing that Delmar was such a great academic school. If you teach to the test, of course you're going to get higher test scores!
When I was in school, most of the time you didn't even know when you were going to have a test in each class. You also had no idea when the big school wide testing was going to be and you darn sure didn't know what was going to be on the test!
    Having said all that....Congratulations Wildcats!!!

  21. 10:48 i strongly agree. I graduated from parkside a few years ago and all they teach is the test. They base the whole curriculum around it. Its total in bs.Congrats delmar on you win.

  22. I'd like to thank the VFW in Delmar along with the entire community for supporting the team and fans after the game. Everyone was welcomed to the VFW for food, sodas, and some great speeches. What great fellowship!

  23. I think some of you people just spend all day looking for stuff to complain about! Quit looking at the negative things and see that these are ALL wonderful kids that deserve to celebrate, (not just the football team). The whole community and school came out to support these kids, and there are a lot of other schools and community's that wouldn't have put on half the celebration that we put on for our State Champs! So quit complaining and congratulate any Delmar player you see or know, those boys had a hard start this year and worked hard to get here!! They deserve it!! (Especially the seniors). Go Delmar!!! State Champs 2009!!!!

  24. I think the complaints are valid. They didn't close the school when one of the students were killed in a motor vehicle accident but they close the school because of a football game.
This makes no sense to me.
I'm extremely happy for the football team for winning their State Championship but I feel the "rewarding" of the entire school is ridiculous! Most of the school had nothing at all to do with the sport or the game. Most of the school didn't even go to the game so tell me how this makes any sense!

  25. Delmar has a very high academic standard. It is unfortunate that they teach "teach to the test", but all schools do that. Since the government implemented No Child Left Behind, the tests are the only thing that seem to matter. That said, giving a student the day off for a victory celebration makes more sense to me than the in-service days they have on a monthly basis. It was a draining week for all involved and no one would have been much good anyway. I'm not sure you can administratively excuse the football team and those involved in the program and make the rest of the school go.

  26. I see a few complainers on here but we must remember these are just a few. All day long today I have been out sporting my favorite Delmar Football t shirt and strangers are stopping to congratulate my team, people were honking at me and waving with thumbs up because of the State Champs written on my vehicle. So needless to say, the majority who aren't from Delmar are still proud of our boys and are very supportive. What a great thing!

  27. I was told this was a way to fit in a furlow day ,could this be true?

  28. some netiquette. When a "thread", article or post is one subject and a person turns it into another they have HIJACKED the thread. This post is about congratulating the Delmar High Football team!

The thread hijackers need to find an appropriate forum for their views. How about PTA? How about getting off your a$$ and going to a board meeting? No, you wouldn't do that, you are too lazy. Instead you'll pi$$ on the football team's parade and think you made some sort of difference. You didn't.

  29. At least we did it before 10:00 PM so no laws have been broken. But now we let school out because of this. What is most important here a Delmar football win or an education? Without an education we are still just a bunch of hicks.
