Webster, Like It Or Not Ireton Restructures Salisbury Police Department

The Salisbury Police Chief ate crow last night as he stood there and delivered a speech that simply said, I'm bowing to you Jimmy and we're going back to our old ways just as you had mentioned in your campaign.

The Salisbury Police Department is putting Officers back on the streets to get to know their citizens, just like the old days. Why, because it works and everything Webster has delivered over the past 12 years has proven to fail.

While Mayor Ireton set the bar last night on class, he never once stated he has demanded an immediate change and things will be done his way, or else. That was my impression considering all of the promises he made during his campaign.

Sub Stations will be found in two key areas of the City and while we all looked at last nights performance with heavy interest, the only one who gave up any solutions was Mayor Ireton. Citizens have been screaming for years to get Officers back on foot patrol and the Mayor delivered.

I sat back watching the entire show thinking to myself, could Comegys and Chiefy look dumber than Dumb and Dumber? Bubba with his Bubba Math challenging a true Engineer with Degrees, while Bubba received a title with the SHA and to his own admission stated, "I don't do percentages." Remember when he screwed up the "double digit tax increase" and said that.

He and old Chiefy thought they had it all together by challenging Mark McIver and myself but what they really said was, WE WATCH THE JOE ALBERO SHOW and rather than being PROACTIVE they became REACTIVE. For what it's worth Chiefy, that's a pretty scary position to take as a Police Chief but thanks for showing just how ignorant you truly are.

You see Folks, the stats work as follows. If you were to use RAW numbers alone, (NOT PER CAPITA) there are 741 Cities across America similar in size to Salisbury. Factually, however, the FBI placed Salisbury in the 25,000 to 50,000 category. Salisbury actually has around 27,000, so we're at the low end of those numbers, (just to be fair).

OK, of the 741 Cities across America, Salisbury is the 6th Most Violent/Dangerous City in America in 2008. No one EVER said Salisbury was the 2nd most dangerous City in America for MURDER Chiefy! When you break down the numbers per capita out of the 741 Cities, Salisbury is ranked #2. Now, that being said, if you were to look at rape, (for example) we might have rape numbers 4 times that of other Cities similar to our size, yet we're not pouncing on old Chiefy for those kind of numbers, nor any others for that matter. We're simply delivering FACTUAL numbers and Chiefy knows it.

His performance last night with murders was absolutely stupid, or should I say, reactive. Nevertheless, let's turn this around one more time old Chiefy. Even though your statistic figures were overly dramatic, even though younger Students from SU spanked you last night by stating even 4 is 4 too many, try this one out for size Folks....... Of the FOUR murders in Salisbury compared to 741 other Cities our size, HOW MANY MURDERS IN SALISBURY WERE ACTUALLY SOLVED?

For what it's worth Folks, I'd like to deliver articles like this one with endings that are good for the community. That being said, I don't believe any one of the four murders in Salisbury was actually solved. Many have asked me to finish articles like this one with a solution. There's only ONE solution I can come up with and it's the removal of the Police Chief. How that man could stand up there and knowingly deliver false numbers and then stand there knowing the SPD has not solved any of their murders, well, Folks, that's quite scary if you ask me.

Mayor Ireton has said from day one, I want more Officers on foot patrol. I want more Officers involved with the community. I want more Officer is Sub Stations. Last night Chiefy clearly stated he was going to deliver EVERYTHING Mayor Ireton wanted because he knows his job is clearly on the line. I don't want to hear any more crap that his Officers are on the streets working hard every day, we already know that. To get defensive as if Salisbury News or Joe Albero is attacking the Officers, he's clearly mistaken. It's the lazy A$$es on the third floor pushing Officers to their absolute limit that disgusts me. 3 Officers recently quit the SPD and many other veterans on the Force also left because of all the BS they have to deal with by incompetent leaders.

Oh, let me also make mention of Webster's desire to add a K-9 to the Force. VERY STUPID! I happen to know that he's starting with one but plans on adding more and more because Webster feels the Sheriff's Department is entirely too slow to arrive on the scene with their K-9 Units. BS! Nevertheless, do any of you realize just how overworked this Police Officer and K-9 Dog will be pushed! One Dog, one Officer, 24 hours in a day and seven days in a week. You talk about overtime!!!!! Webster continues to DIVIDE Law Enforcement and anyone who knows what's going on out there cannot disagree with me.

I'll close with this. Thanks for watching "The Joe Albero Show" Chiefy & Bubba. That's what I call INFLUENTIAL.

  2. Thanks for posting this Joe. I have been refreshing your page off and on all morning waiting for this post. Ditto 10:07. Another bullseye.

I wish someone could tell your readers when Pac14 will rebroadcast last nights meeting. I would love to see it. I could not attend last night as I had to work.

  3. Here's my take:

Ireton looked good but not great, and really put down the 3 stooges when they tried to put him on the spot.

Webster and Bubba were buffoons, especially when Deborah Campbell pushed their button on Salisbury's crime rate.

Louise and Shanie looked like the comic relief.

Campbell and Cohen made sense, as usual.

Will it be rerun on PAC 14 (and if so, when)?

  6. I'm glad that Mayor Ireton finally grew a pair! Don't back down now, Mayor...make those idiots on the third floor earn their pay!!

  7. If the crime fighting grant isn't given to Salisbury let's see if Campbell's suggestion of budget cuts resulting in money to replace the grant funds for more enforcement is passed by the council majority. After all Louise and Gary both said that they want to support the Mayor's crime fighting efforts.
It was genius to make Comegys promise that the tax relief from teh county (if given) would come back to us taxpayers. We have heard for years what he would really like to do with that money.

  8. Great posting Joe.

He points out murder because he really still believes they will kill each other and those that don't will be arrested. Wants the Dog to steal thunder and pad his record. He will try to portray support while undermining the mayor’s wishes. The guy is an egomaniac with an inferiority complex….

Now is the time for the officers to stand up and do what they want to do. Protect the citizens of Salisbury without the pressure of their bosses' agenda.

Get us a bunch of moles Joe....

Or should I say Let the Moles Sing Joe!!!!

  9. Besides bashing people for using the FBI's reported crime data and ranking based upon those numbers, they are trying to make us believe that Salisbury's very high crime rate is because of the state prison in Somerset County which, they say, brings criminals here.

Do they have any data to support that excuse?

  13. The only thing I have seen of the City cops is sitting on Eastern Shore Drive at 7am for the last two days but not stopping any speeders. One car blew by me doing 40 in a 30mph zone. Oh well, I guess they are now being "seen" but when are they actually going to start "doing"?

  14. Didn't a resident of Isabella say whe watched two squad cars pakred for an hour at N. Div and Isabella church parking lot, just sitting and talking - guess these guys most be on a lookout. Does anyone know.

  15. I hope they do put more officers out on the streets..Maybe now the cars that fly down my street will actually go the speed limit...I am getting so fed up people thinking this road is the indie 500 track.

  16. 40 in a 30 is not blowing you by! Most cops give 10-15 mph leeway on speed limits!

  17. Fact is where perception meets reality. My perception is that crime is up quite a bit and the streets of Salisbury are not as safe as they once were. Whether you follow the news, listen to a scanner or have been directly impacted by an act of crime, you have to see crime is up.

I have lived in Salisbury all my life and have never seen the frequency of crimes like they are today. I never locked my doors for years and didnt worry about it. Thats all changed and I have fortified my home and even bought a gun. I hope I never have to use it, but just in case I'm prepared.

The numbers that have been kicked around can be deceiving and can be swayed to paint your picture. The police Chief says just four murders as if it wre nothing. These were human lives that were snuffed out by criminls before their time. One murder is too many for any town the size of Salisbury.

Unfortunately there is no solution in sight due to a bickering council and a clueless police Chief with no real direction. Criminals apply their trade in Salisbury because they know this. Substations and grants are not the answer. Officers on the beat and not behind a desk or a steering wheel is the answer. Officers who are visible and form relationships with the citizens are what solves crime. Police cant be everywhere and it takes information from witnesses and citizens to solve crimes. The police have a duty to act when they see prostitutes, drug transactions and thugs congrigating. It clear they are unmotivated because of their leadership. Otherwise you wouldnt have the obvious street walkers at the Thrift Inn everyday and night.

If everyone does their part we can get Salisbury back to a respectful level. For now my perception stands. We are not sfae in this city Period.

  18. I agree with most of your statements. The one I disagree with is the K-9. With drugs being a huge CITY problem, the CITY needs to have it's own drug k-9. Not place the work, burden and be dependent on other agencies. The CITY needs to be able to handle it's own, hence get them their own K-9 divison for things such as tracking fleeing criminals from robberies and shootings, crowd control, drug interdiction, public relations, and an addition to the use of force that CITY has. There is an abundant amount of options that can be seen with a k-9. In today's society it is so easy to be dependent on others, to be strong means to be able to stand on one's own feet, but also (only when necessary) ask for help

    ReplyDelete
  19. The city needs more officers and pay to keep the old ones. K-9 is a tool that EVERY other agency except frutiland has. It's time they got their own so SPD can start taking care of their own problem

    ReplyDelete
  20. anonymous 2:30, In better times I would fully agree. However, with 4 unsolved murders, Salisbury needs Officers. Better yet, they need to RETAIN the veterans they currently have. They just lost three more. Who's going to train these younger Officers?

I could see if they went into the K-9 business full steam ahead but one at a time, like I said, it's going to cause a TON of overtime. The Chief, (IMO) is doing things backwards.

You're right, they don't care, just for laughs or tears notice they nearly advertise their offerings:

  22. Gary Comegys just kept going on and on about how the council hadn't voted against any initiatives for the police because Ireton hadn't brought them any.

    What a yayhoo.

Gary, you didn't give the cops their second raise as promised, no matter how many times you say you did. But you gave your buddies an expensive toy boat.

Louise Smith didn't want to hire the four ARRA officers.

Shanie Shields said we don't need no more POElice, and crime is NOT a problem.

Three strikes, you bozos are out!

The truth shall set you free!

  27. I'm curious about these stats. Are they just in city limits? Either way it could be deceiving... for instance greenbelt, one could cross the street and be in hyattsville or college park or any other district without even knowing it. Up there, a person isn't gonna leave a highly populated area to go a mile down the road into greenbelt to commit a crime. Around Salisbury, its much more likely people travel to the town from considerable distances just to commit crime.

Either way... crime is still out of control in Salisbury.

    Rob S

    ReplyDelete
  28. Rob, yes, they are just within the City Limits. Look at the Anitra Pirkle murder. It originated in Salisbury, went to Delmar and ended up being a Delmar murder, or should I say County. She was stabbed multiple times in Salisbury, but that doesn't count. if it did there would have been 5 murders.

Nevertheless, might I suggest to you and everyone else to go to FBI.GOV and go to section 8 and view the stats for yourself, since Chiefy can't seem to find it or understand it.

The numbers are real and no one is lying. Nice try Chiefy but you looked like a fool last night and even worse after this Post went up. Remember what they told you, get some thicker skin. Also, don't forget, "Fight Crime, Not Opinions."

  30. 11:57-

You don't need police experience to know that crime is out of control in Salisbury because of an inept police chief ("kojak cop").

    ReplyDelete
  31. Can you call the chief on why there is only 3 Aux Police officers in salisbury police they need to expand the program...?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Joe, I hear that State has recently assigned three investigators to this area just to work on the problems here. (ie gangs/guns). Lets see how much cooperation these guys/girls get from Webster.

    ReplyDelete
  33. sore loser Comegys tried to stick it to Ireton and ended up looking like a bigger buffoon than he usually does

    ReplyDelete
  34. the 3rd floor doesn't do squat. More officers, more pay, and more tools, are what's going to change this city. Putting them on foot patrol may help (a tiny bit) but you'll still have overworked and underpaid cops walking around not driving around. They will still be looking for that 2nd part of the pay raise that Comegys promised but never came through on. You wonder why cops leave salisbury, it's cause salisbury (council/mayor) dont back it's cops. Stop giving hose beaters all those toys that they spend countless dollars on putting needless specialty decals on and start putting money where it belongs....POLICE otherwise stop gripping about the crime and prepare to defend yourself in your own home, cause your door might be the next home invasion sight

    ReplyDelete
  35. Maybe their belief is such as the old saying...."You should be seen and not heard".

    ReplyDelete
  36. I always knew that Comegys and Webster weren't all that bright, but after yesterday's embarrassing performance someone really need to gag that obvious sickandtired duo.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Let's make this simple for the chief to understand, the crime numbers, get it, not rate, cause I know that confuses the heck out to the poor soul, that his Dept will supposedly be reporting for 2009 are higher than 2008. Makes you feel warm and fuzzy huh...

    ReplyDelete
  38. 3:39PM Speeding is not speeding. There is the posted speed limit, which is generally a joke; and the accepted speed limit, which is the spped that cops will give you a ticket at. No, I am not a cop, but I work with many of them and have had this discussion many times. If you do 8 MPH over the speed limit, you will virtually never get a ticket. Most cops give even more leeway.
I bet you're one of those rolling roadblock weenies who do 55 in the LH lane of 13.

  40. I think that mobile stations are more efficient that sub stations. If the Mayor thinks he's gonna man them with volunteers, i hope he's prepared to train and arm them.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's called logistics...If you don't have enough police officers in a police car to handle the overwhelming number of calls all over the city...HOW THE HECK are you going to put officers on foot and still be able to handle these high call numbers. Maybe if you had 15-20 more officers this might be a good idea. Right now with officers in vehicles it's a sinking ship with slow leaks, taking those officers away from vehicle/rapid response will make the holes even bigger. NO ONE IN CHARGE has a clue what they are doing, it's sickening. From the mayor, to the council and on down.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Our city doesn't even have enough officers to handle what's going on now, where are these FOOT PATROL officers going to come from?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Joe, I was not in any way questioning the stats. I lived in Salisbury long enough to see the transition into the nastiness its become... The only point I was posing is that things are different on the other side of the bridge. My example was Greenbelt. Say you cross over into College Park, thats another separate jurisdiction that could literally be just across the street, including 10000 more people and another 400 violent crimes. Or in Anne Arundel county MD, the geographic size of Salisbury's city limits could cover the separate jurisdictions of Glen Burnie, Ferndale, Millersville and Pasadena.

I'm pretty sure as well that these jurisdictions use that to their advantage in these areas... ya think Annapolis doesn't try their best to push stats onto crownsville or south river so they don't look so bad? Salisbury can't really do that because the neighboring towns are not in direct proximity.
