Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) is the name given to anyone who exhibits a particular set of neurological symptoms including muscle weakness and muscle spasms. GBS is now increasingly occurring following H1N1 vaccine injections. It was diagnosed in thousands of patients following the 1976 swine flu vaccine scare, and it appears to be recurring here in 2009 as the swine flu vaccine makes it into more widespread distribution.
Health authorities, however, remain adamant that H1N1 vaccines are never the cause of GBS, and that such diagnoses are "pure coincidence." This blatantly unscientific P.R. tactic is designed to dismiss any and all concerns over the neurological side effects of H1N1 vaccines by simply denying they exist. To date, the CDC has received reports of five additional people being diagnosed with GBS following swine flu vaccinations, but it dismisses them all as coincidence.
More..
But the flu shot is perfectly safe, it must be so because I gave it to my child.
ReplyDeleteI cannot be wrong.
It would be unreasonable to assume that these vaccines are perfectly safe.
the government tells us that cell phones are perfectly safe. So that must be true as well.
There is no credible that cell phones and vaccines are not safe, and global warming is FACT!
Yup 1 case of GB makes an epidemic... Garbage info Joe.. you spread fear with this...
ReplyDeleteVaccines have saved the world... remember small pox, polio, ...etc... Would you rather die from those hideous diseases???
Are you also going to print the news about 6 more people dying from swine flu in Maryland? There may be a link between vaccines and GB. It hasn't been proven yet but there may be a link. Even if there is a link it's an incredibly rare thing. However, it's a fact that some people die from swine flu and many others suffer horribly from it.
ReplyDeleteYes, you can avoid vaccines because you think there is a small chance you may get some sort of neurological damage, even if there is no evidence to support your beliefs. But if you applied that same logic to your life, you'd never drive or drink water or eat any food. After all, there are risks in those activities, too. They could even kill you. But we're not irrational when it comes to weighing the risks vs. benefits of those activities. Use the same logic for vaccines.
GBS is an autoimmune disorder and it can be triggered by vaccinations:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/gbs/gbs.htm
"Occasionally, surgery or vaccinations will trigger the syndrome."
It's a real -- if remote -- risk. Unlike most of the nonsense that anti-vaccine wingnuts come up with.
let me see one day 1000 people have died from swine flu the next day it is 4000 but there is no way to confirm the actual number. if you really look into most of the deaths there is an underlying cause of a weakened immune system. now the government is rationing the vaccine cause they just can't produce enough. so panic if you want or educate youself be smart and take care of yourself. self reliance now there is a novel idea. umh, umh , umh
ReplyDeleteANY vaccine can trigger GBS, not just the H1N1 vaccine. It's also a screening question on the paper work you should fill out prior to getting the vaccine.
ReplyDeleteThe pharmaceutical industry in general, and our government in particular WOULD NOT provide a vaccine if it was not (1) necessary and (2) safe.
ReplyDeleteAll of us need to trust our government and the rich elite who control Big Pharma. Sure they make a lot of money with vaccines. Sure they are glad that the CDC refuses to properly test the vaccines. Sure they are glad that it is difficult for you and I to find out the ingredients of the vaccines. But that doesn't mean they are harming us. The care about us. These people have accepted the civic duty of taking care of us - not harming us.
Of course, a few people here and there will have adverse reactions. Of course, it may happen to your child or loved one. Yes, the odds of vaccine injury are far greater than your chances of winning the lottery.
But when you are crying or whining about your child being injured by a vaccine, just remember this:
We can't let your un-vaccinated child come around all these other vaccinated children. Your child will endanger the rest of the children. Your child has not been vaccinated. These other children are vaccinated. So we can't let your child indanger these children - it just isn't fair!
Now, if you have difficulty following this logic, then maybe you need to come back to the public school so we can help you realize the beauty of political double speak.
10:42 -- vaccines are tested quite well and quite thoroughly. It's pretty easy to find out their ingredients, too. And it's incredibly rare for anyone to have any serious health problems from a vaccine.
ReplyDeleteYour anti-vaccine attitude ignores the horrible diseases that would be present if not for vaccines. Do you really want to go back to a world where polio was routine, children died of whooping cough, and millions died of the swine flu?
I just wish it was tested better. Why didn't Obama's girls get the vaccine? If you have an underlaying illness maybe but most people can beat it without the vaccine.
ReplyDeleteMarc,
ReplyDeleteYou are right. I am so sorry for thinking the vaccines might be harmful. It was almost un-American of me!
Everyone knows the vaccines are safe. The doctors know it. The nurses know it. The media knows it. The CDC knows it.
It is not necessary to question these people's intentions or motives. This is not about money. It is about making sure nothing bad happens to anyone ever again - except for the very very very few people who are injured by vaccines. But then again, that is the price we are all willing to pay to control these bio-weapons made in military laboratories. The coincidence of 100's of micro-biologists dying prematurely after working for the military on these bio-weapons should not concern us. Watch the television. Memorize the talking points. Believe the stories about eradicating terrible diseases by injecting the diseases directly into people's blood stream . . .
Hey wait a minute. This sounds a little bit fishy . . .
Oops, I'm back. For a minute there I began once again to question my government and the media. But I'm all better now.
As I was saying . . .
Marc,
ReplyDeleteI am beginning to understand why Thomas Aquinas lost his temper with you a few days ago.
Wake up!
Big Pharma and Big Government is NOT YOUR FRIEND!
The media is lying to you!
Educate yourself.
The friggin' vaccines are untested. They contain mercury. They contain squalene. They are grown on the tissue of aborted human beings and scraped off the kidneys of dead monkeys.
You are mainlining a weaponized virus directly into your friggin' bloodstream!
What are you thinking?
They are giving newborn babies Hepatitis B virus loaded with a full dose of mercury on the first day of life! You can only get Hepatitis B from unprotected sex, intraveneous drug use or a tainted blood transfusion.
This country has gone completely mad.
Got squalene?
ReplyDelete12:39 -- I'm not sure what you are referring to, since I don't recall having a dispute with any "Thomas Aquinas."
ReplyDeleteI used to be skeptical of vaccines. Then I had a kid and educated myself, just as you recommend. I am now convinced that vaccines are safe. All the things you say about them, that they are untested or that they are grown on aborted fetuses, is simply untrue. And thermisol used to be used in vaccines and now largely isn't, but that contained ethyl, not methyl, mercury. Educate yourself about the difference.
You need to read some science on this matter. Once you've done that, come back and we can talk.
12:34 -- if you don't believe that a number of horrible diseases have been eradicated by vaccines, you've got more problems than 12:39 does. Vaccines are one of the greatest medical innovations ever. Talk to someone with polio and tell them about how horrible vaccines are.
It's not unamerican to question the safety of vaccines. It's ignorant to do so in the face of all the facts, though.
H1N1 is currently rampant in the entire US. Thousands of people are dying -- I have seen it first hand. The vaccine was produced in the same manner as the seasonal flu vaccines. The concentration of mercury, thimerisol, squalene in any of these are in parts per million. You are more likely to get sick from mercury by eating a piece of Tuna. Also, Obama's children did receive the vaccine, so check your facts. There was a shortage originally, but once supplies were available, they received the shot.
ReplyDeleteAll vaccines have the potential for side effects. All medications have side effects (look at the package insert of your blood pressure medications or antibiotics.) To not get vaccinated due to a few cases of GBS out of millions of safe vaccinations is not a wise choice. The H1N1 novel virus is not as "mild" as reported. Young and old, people are dying or having significant morbidities.
Tin-foil helmet wearers, please avoid this and all other 'dangerous' vaccines. In a few generations, this moronic behavior will have been weeded out.
ReplyDeleteHow's that generator you bought for Y2K workin' for you?
Obama's children did receive the vaccine: From an ABC News story 10/27/09:
ReplyDeleteABC News' Sunlen Miller reports:
The White House announced today that the president’s daughters received the H1N1 vaccine after it became available to Washington, D.C. schoolchildren.
The vaccine was administered last week to Malia, 11, and Sasha, 8, by a White House physician, who applied for and received the vaccine from the D.C. Department of Health, “using the same process as every other vaccination site in the District,” according to the first lady’s Press Secretary Katie McCormick-Lelyveld.
The president and first lady have not yet received the vaccination. The White House said they will wait until the needs of priority target groups -- young people under 24, pregnant women, and people with underlying conditions -- receive theirs first.
“I suspect that I may come fairly far down the line,” The president told CNN last month. “We want to get vaccinated. We think it's the right thing to do. We will stand in line like everybody else. And when folks say it's our turn, that's when we'll get it.
On Friday President Obama signed a proclamation declaring H1N1 a national emergency.
All four members of the first family received the seasonal flu shot last week.
