Troopers Arrest Man In Hospice Care After He Assaults His Girlfriend

Delaware State Police have arrested a 54 year-old man in Hospice care after he attacked his girlfriend leaving her with severe injuries.
Troopers were called to the Cedar Village Mobile Home Park today, Friday, November 20, 2009 at 4 p.m. after a Hospice nurse walked in to the home of Donophan. The nurse heard screaming prior to entering the home and observed Donophan assaulting his 51 year-old girlfriend. The nurse called troopers and was able to pull Donophan off of the victim.
The victim was taken to Milford Memorial Hospital however her injuries were so severe that she was flown to Christiana Hospital near Newark. She was listed in critical condition with internal bleeding of the brain, fractured orbital socket and injury to her eyes. State police are unsure what started the assault or if any weapon was used.
Donophan was charged with 1 count of Assault 1st and was committed to the Department of Correction in default of $30,000.00.
The Hospice nurse was at the home to care for Donophan.
And this criminal was supposed to be dying and receiving free hospice care?

Most hospice care is paid for by your private insurance. Secondly, was this man on pain meds that could have made him get violent? Maybe he was not being monitered close enough by hospice???
