IS THE OBAMAS’ FAVORITE BURGER PLACE COMING TO SALISBURY?
Since taking up residence in a large house in downtown Washington, DC earlier this year, both Barack and Michelle have made jaunts to partake of the best burger in town, bar none (and, no doubt, some of the best fries around). Now, make that in a couple months, Salisbury may have its very own Five Guys restaurant, and we can all share the wealth.
Seriously, folks, this restaurant is not to be missed. The menu is short and simple – hamburgers and hot dogs, fresh not frozen, and fries cooked in fresh peanut oil (can you say “Thrashers”). The burgers and tube steaks are available with a variety of toppings, along with cheeseburgers, kosher-style dogs, etc. No alcohol is served.
The format was initiated by multiple male siblings whose parents advised them to “start a business or go to college.” They made the correct choice and opened their first Five Guys location, in Arlington, VA, in 1986. Now there are over 450 locations in more than 30 states. They use only fresh ground beef in the burgers – there are no freezers in the locations.
Typically, when Five Guys enters a new market area, it becomes the burger source of choice for the connoisseur. It has been ZAGAT survey rated since 2001. At present, the locations nearest to Salisbury are in Sussex County (Bethany Beach, Lewes and Rehobeth Beach).
Today’s agenda of the Salisbury Planning & Zoning Commission includes site plan review for a “Five Guys” location on South Salisbury Boulevard, which for many denizens of the ‘Bury and SU students should be a convenient alternative to a trip to get a Nathan’s at Sam’s Club. And a location in Ocean City will be opened soon, I understand.
Joe, there IS one over in Ocean City on 65th-66th street and bayside. Personally, I would prefer an In-N-Out around here.
ReplyDeleteNewest location is in O.C. just north of Rte 90. You are right, You gotta have a Five Guys Burger and Cajun Fries!!!
ReplyDeleteOne is open already in OC - at the 62nd St. shopping center, bayside.
ReplyDeleteThey are the BEST!! And a bargain, too - huge burger, great fries and a coke for less than $9!
The one in OC has been open for a couple months. It's in the 64th St. shopping center. It's wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThat is one big burger Michelle has there!
ReplyDeleteAte in a Five Guys on the Outer Banks last summer. Superb!
ReplyDeleteWe need a Chipotle Mexican Grill!! Welcome Five Guys.
ReplyDeleteOh my God am I reading this correct, pictures of the Obama's and no negative comments..Whoa life is good...
ReplyDeleteI dare to differ in that the BEST burger at the beach (in my opinion) is the House of Welsh in the Town of Fenwick Island. Big burger, beach fries, and a draft beer cheaper than any combo meal that McDonald's sells and far cheaper than the Five Guys franchise. No sales tax either.
ReplyDeleteThey've been in business for 102 years.
10:55 too bad you can play their slots anymore
ReplyDeleteFive Guys in da Bury. There is a God
ReplyDeleteTo greasy, I grill better.
ReplyDeleteyay, another great business comes to town so salisbury can ruin it. no matter who it is once they get here it is never as good as elsewhere. i guess it is the workforce they have to pick from.
ReplyDeleteNo Obama burgers for me !
ReplyDeletecoming soon

ReplyDeleteThanks
I wonder what type of health care & pention plan they have to offer the employees? To funny & to sad.
ReplyDeleteOh goody, I love five guys. I was really disappointed by checkers but I know I like this chain.
ReplyDeleteAnother business going to be robbed again and again. "give me yo fries MOFOOOOOO!"
ReplyDeleteI will never eat at this place after a socialist like Obama ate there.
ReplyDeleteCome on, Salisbury. We can do better! It should be banned!!!!!!!
(Just kidding, 10:33 ... I am psyched for Five Guys!)
In true obama fashion, does the working man go in and pay for his meal and then they give it to the crack head on the corner?
ReplyDeletei love five guys !! pricey but delicious. i hope it comes to salisbury. been going to rehoboth just to get it.
ReplyDeleteOMG! We have a Five Guys in Lynchburg, VA, and they are AWESOME! Salisbury is in for a real treat, if it doesn't get ruined by the piss-poor labor pool that is in da 'bury!
ReplyDeleteThe burgers are hot and juicy, and the fries are the next best thing to Thrashers. Everything is fresh, and you get UNLIMITED toppings for your burger!
Enjoy, Salisbury!
From a Salisbury Native
Maybe o should start looking for site to open his own burger joint in 3 years and a couple months.
ReplyDeleteLove this place!!! Checkers is super lame! (almost as bad as taco bell which will be rebuilt soon btw)Let's hope that Salisbury wont screw this up like they did the brewery.
ReplyDeleteTDT
5 guys is good but it is GROSSLY overpriced!
ReplyDeleteYou are paying red robin prices for McDonalds service
4:08 Rehobeth??? There is one in Ocean City.
ReplyDeleteIt must be nice to have all of this money to eat out. I thought Salisbury was in a recession. How do you afford to eat out so much?
ReplyDeleteRed Robin, we need one of them next...Yummmmm. Five Guys is really good as well.
ReplyDelete5 guys is not overpriced at all. It's cheaper than hardee's... The loaded burger is huge for less than $6 and worth every penny. Also, the "regular" size fries is more than enough for 2 people to split. So 2 people can stuff themselves for less than $15. Its certainly not the $1 menu, but its a much more quality product.
ReplyDeleteRob S
chick fil a has a good work force.
ReplyDeleteyuck. ewwww!!!! nasty.... Blachhhhhh Thats what we need more fast food. Lets all get fat together and loose (not weight) all the locally owned (not chains) businesses while we are at it....
ReplyDeleteLiKe Salisbury needs to get any fatter!!!!!!!!!!!! Come on!!! Get real!
ReplyDeleteI'm with the person that suggests Chipotle! I miss those yummy lunches. Not loaded with grease and bread!
you know he wanted a pig foot sandwich
ReplyDeleteFIVE GUYS IS THE BEST! You WILL love their food! In the words of Borat..."I so excite!"
ReplyDeleteI bet Obama used some of the pennies in front of the register because he didnt want to break a 20. Need a penny, take a penny, need 2 pennies, take 2 pennies, need 3 pennies, get a job! LOL
ReplyDeleteI have eaten at Five Guys on numerous occasions...I really cannot fathom what the fuss is all about....the food is good...but nothing special.
ReplyDeletethe best burgers in this town now is back street on snow hill rd....try them they are yum.....and reasonable....
