Fire In Delmar

We were just informed the LaCabana is on fire in Delmar. I hear sirens from all over the place and Hebron just came by my home.

UPDATE: Obama must be in the building because all I can hear is more Fire Trucks racing down Spring Hill Road and Rt. 54. Where's that Fire Boat when you need it!

UPDATE #2: It's the old Memories building. Command just ordered ALL Firefighters out of the building as the roof collapsed.

UPDATE #3: Companies on scene: Delmar, Salisbury, Laurel, Hebron & Sharptown. Gumboro is covering the Delmar Fire Department.

UPDATE #4: It is now 8:18 PM and another Fire Truck with sirens just went racing by. Man, I hope they got Obama out.

  1. Sorry, it was a "Death Panel" decision. Respondents determined that the facility was too old to save.

    Turn the water off.

  2. Why is Salisbury there? Is that ladder truck there? Why can't Delmar handle its fire problems itself?

  6. salisbury is helping out just in case things get out of hand, Delmar is a great fire station. This town is lucky to have a great group of VOLUNTEERS, and pay staff.I cant believe that you even went there.

  8. So whose tax dollars are paying for Salisburys trucks to be in delmar? I guess we should have shipped in the fire boat to help.

  9. You people complaining about Salisbury being in delmar, why arent you complaining about laurel, hebron and sharptown being in delmar? Whats the big deal, they are doing there job. What if your family was trapped inside that building? SFD has issues, serious issues, but think just one time if you or your family were hurt or put into a situation they needed help, how much complaining would you be doing then????

  10. I guess Albero has no problem with other FD's responding to his home town.

  11. 8:57 PM, I doubt seriously myself or my family would be in Memories Lounge/Chances Liquor store needing Salisbury's assistance.

  12. @8:57

Salisbury was obviously operating outside of Wicomico County. I hope Delmar is ready to pay for our engines to be there

  13. Hey doug...had some good times at that ol place too...bunky was the life of the party...salisbury chat on aol used to have saturday nite gatherings there...for months we'd all go and dance, drink and enjoy everyones company. my drink back then were Goldenslaggers or however you spell it...now at my age i can't handle them..they give me heartburn...but back then it wasn't a bad place to go...alot of memories there for me too...

  14. What the hell happened to helping out your neighbors in this country. I know the rest of Maryland is a pile of ... but I thought that the Eastern Shore still held some traditional values. "Who's paying for it" "My tax dollars..." "WHINE WHINE WHINE"

Get over yourselves, there is no fire department that can handle everything you throw at them. Some fires require more personnel for safety and to get it under control quickly before it becomes an even more danger to people or other properties.

Do you think if Salisbury had a call that they needed help on Delmar would refuse to come??? Salisbury helps them out and they return the favor if needed, that's how the fire service has always been; people helping each other when it's needed.

Guess what, a lot of local fire departments sent personnel and equipment to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, why aren't you whining about that? Oh I know why, because it's taboo to complain about helping New Orleans. I sure do hope you people complaining never need help from anyone.

    Sincerely,
    Disgusted

  15. It doesn't matter where you are or where it happened, you would want someone to come to your rescue no matter where you are. And yes they were operating out of Wic. county, so what so were some of the others, but no one complains about that. Why is that?

  16. OMG, you guys are just unbelievable. Your pansy excuses are ridiculous. Come on now, look at how many Fire Departments showed up for one fire. What bothers you the most is the FACT that finally, after a hundred years, someone is calling you guys out for abusing our tax dollars and donated money. Who's the special one who invited so many different Fire Departments to one single fire? Come on guys, man up and tell everyone who said, uh, this is Delmar FD, we cannot handle this fire and need the assistance of at least 5,6 or 7 more Fire Departments to handle this one building.

In tomorrow's Daily Times they'll have an image of the building burned to the ground and they'll say, our fire departments are second to nonw. Oh, and no one, (thank God) was injured and the Fire Marhsall took samples of bottles by the case load to see if any hanky panky was involved in this particular fire. A formal report should be out in a few days as each member in the Fire Marshall's Office mysteriously called in sick with H1N1 but it's been rumored the symptoms were more in line with a hang over.

Come on guys, all in fun. ;-)

  17. who cares who all is comming!! Its nice to see it doesnt matter where your from, its nice to see we have each others help when its needed!!!

  18. Awe, have I pissed off another Firefighter? Does the TRUTH really hurt you guys that much?

Sorry fellas but we can't publish that nasty language.

  19. 10:24, do you hold hands and slap eachothers butts too?

  20. You guys are right, I think any time someone needs help we should first ask, "Well are you going to reimburse us for our services? We're not gonna help unless you pay us?"

Nobody should volunteer to do anything worthwhile anymore either. Joe you should start requesting money from the Salvation Army for your time.

If you see a person stranded on the side of the road with a gas can, make sure you ask if they can reimburse you before you even think about giving them a ride.

Someone screaming for you to dial 9-1-1; they going to pay for that 9-1-1 surcharge on your cell phone? If not then they better find a pay phone.

Someone from out of town gets in an accident in Salisbury; their local fire department can come down here and help them because they don't pay taxers here.

Pentagon attacked with a plane; DC Fire Department can handle it on their own.

Twin Towers collapse to the ground and over 300 firemen die; well I hope they have reserves cause we're damn sure not gonna send help, I don't have any money invested in the WTC, why should I care?

  21. These comments are ridiculous. As long as you partake in this Joe you will NEVER be taken seriously.

It's standard protocol. There were that many there because that's how many it takes. I have never been to a fire scene where we kept more than we needed, if we don't need additional resources we turn them back, if not, they continue in because they're necessary to get the job done.

You people are obviously not in the fire service and have NO IDEA how it operates.

    10:10 PM

    Dear Disgusted,

You obviously have a short memory. The Salisbury Fire Department sent farmin to Katrina at the expense of city tax payers. These weren't the best farmin, but had picked Cronies of Bill Gordy including his worthless son. The Salisbury Fire Department wasn't requested and they were also told to go home. They weren't even part of the rescue and recover efforts endorsed by FEMA. They were freelancing in areas of Gordy's buddies.

Yes the leadership of the Salisbury Fire Department was wasting city tax dollars way back then as well. Nothing changes. Gordy and Hoppes have an open check book. Thanks Mayor and Council.

  23. yes we do, 10:29. And we also fondle each others genitals. Even when we're not at a fire. So what? are you a homophobe? You have something against gays? We're everywhere. In the fire departments. On the football fields. On the baseball diamonds. And in the battle field. Think about that the next time a medinc shows up to give you or someone you love mouth to mouth. Where have my lips been? Will it matter then?

  24. where will all the cockroaches go now???

  25. You all are rediculous....where I am a firefighter at on a building fire there will be 4 engine companies, 2 truck companies and a rescue squad. Thats 6-7 companies. Its not real smart to send one company to a building fire. To much can go wrong. When the on scene commander feels that the fire is under control, then he or she will release the units on scene. Even after the fire is out there is alot of clean up and over haul that has to be done. I would love to see some of you people on a fire and then run out of water because the people didnt wanna pay the extra money for another fire department to come and pick up your line. Come on down and give it a try....not trying to stir the pot...but this is crazy. I am not a firefighter from Salisbury.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The bottom line is simple. It is not wasted tax dollars to put a building fire out. No matter who or how many departments are there. It just has to be done. If you want just one department to do it then that means they would have to buy more equipment and pay more people to staff it and build bigger departments to house it all. And yes, you all would bitch about that to. It will never change so all you crying and complaining is for the entertainment value of this website, period. I love it. I love reading it. It is very entertaining.

  27. Were toothless women in tube tops seen fleeing the area?

  28. All of you should be ashamed of your comments. It is NOT the 1st time other fire departments have responded to other areas to help if needed. I think the firefighters should be commended for the job they do!~ I bet they show up at your home, business, ect when you need them. Hopefully, none of us will not need them. This has nothing to do with buying new firetrucks either. I am proud of all firefighters. They are the most dedicated people I have ever seen. Thank You firefighters for all you do!

  29. omg to see what happened to Memories is so sad. when Bunky left it was all down hill. many good times , great friends and good food were found at all the party's. Who else can remember Sonya and her great smile.........

  30. Joe I'll bet you there were no more firefighters there than there would have been for a similiar fire in Da Bronx

  31. Willards regularly goes to Gumboro for assistance or to stand by. It is called mutual assistance. When there is a structure fire 2 departments are dispatched immediately. The district of the fire has command and they may call other units as needed. If I remember correctly, Memories was out of town so you needed tankers to carry water from town and hook into the trucks on the seen. That is alot for one fire station to manage.

Joe, I know there is a lot of waste in Salisbury Fire Dept, but is an occasion they were needed to respond for back-up manpower, tanker and pumpers.
