The most visible success of the stimulus program so far, writes David Leonhardt of The New York Times, was the Cash for Clunkers program, which induced a car sales boom at the most unlikely of times. Now White House officials are looking to create a similar boom elsewhere in the economy, this time by looking at home weatherization. There are two similar “Cash for Caulkers” proposals floating right now—one from venture capitalist John Doerr and one from former President Bill Clinton—which would offer cash incentives to cover about half of home weatherization projects. But, Leonhardt writes, many homeowners could already save money by weatherizing their homes, so it’s hard to say whether the program could hope to gain as much popularity as its clunker counterpart.
Cash for Clunkers did NOTHING. The government (We Taxpayers) spent 3 BILLION dollars, that we don't have, on a program that over 80% of the vehicles sold were foreign manufacturer's.
ReplyDeleteThe only people that loved it were people who would most likely have bought within a year anyway AND had good credit. It drove the used car market nuts, driving up the prices of vehicles that people who REALLY needed the help, now have to pay more money for.
Now lets piss away more money. How many so called Small Businesses will benefit ? What a lot of large corporations do is create Small Businesses JUST to take advantage of these ridiculous government programs. The REAL small business entrepreneur pays MOST of the taxes employs MOST of the work force and continues to get ALL of the shit end of the government stick.
They already have a "cash for caukers" program....There are federal funded programs through Shore Up that provide low income homeowners with weatherization. There are programs like this in all 50 states,so nice try Obama, but its unneeded. Why should the government give free money to someone for putting plastic on their windows when they didnt pay a dime for it in the first place?
ReplyDeleteAnd most people weatherize anyway to save on energy bills, they dont need the government to pat them on the back for it!
