Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Press Release


On October 17, 2009, at 12:01 a.m., a Worcester County Deputy was patrolling the area of Pine Street and Keyser Point Rd, West Ocean City, Maryland in reference to recent thefts from vehicles. At that time, the Deputy observed a white male near a vehicle with its door open. When the Deputy approached the male, the male began to run from the area. The Deputy began chasing the subject who eventually jumped into the Assawoman Bay and began to swim near the Waters Edge Development. The male remained in the water for close to ½ hour before exiting into a marsh area behind the development. With the assistance of the Ocean City Police Department K-9 Unit and additional officers, the male was located hiding in the marsh. Attempts to place the male under arrest were met with resistance and the subject was subdued and taken into custody. The male, identified as Scott Andrew Williamson, Age 32 of Fruitland, Maryland, was treated and released for exposure at Atlantic General Hospital and charged with numerous offenses. Those charges include:

1) Rogue and Vagabond

2) Fail to Obey Lawful Order

3) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Mr. Williamson was taken before a Judicial Officer and Held on a $2,000.00 bond. An investigation continues into the vehicle thefts in the area.

On October 13, 2009, the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office responded to an alleged Assault involving a meat cleaver at the Sunset Avenue Apartments in West Ocean City, Maryland. Upon arrival, Deputies learned that Brian Stawinski Age 40 of Ocean City, Maryland, had threatened his roommate with the Meat Cleaver over “loud” noise in the apartment. Deputies placed Mr. Stawinski under arrest and charged him with first and second degree assault, he was held on a $15,000 bond pending a trial date.

On October 16, 2009 at 9:00 p.m., the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Taylor Landing Road area in Girdletree, Maryland for a reported Assault in progress. Upon arrival, Deputies learned that a family dispute had led to physical assault between two males. Deputies charged Matthew Ford age 18 of Girdletree Md. with 2nd Degree Assault. Mr. Ford was taken before a judicial officer and released on personal recognizance pending a trial date.
