What Would Thomas Jefferson Say?

The College of William and Mary held their homecoming this weekend.  Guess who was the homecoming queen?  A self-described “gender-queer” individual by the name of Jessee Vasold.

At the risk of offending almost everyone, I can only ask, “What is the world coming to?”.

From the Daily Press’s article I am assuming that Mr.? (or is it Ms.?) Vasold is a transsexual.  Fair enough.  I’m not opposed to a transsexual running for homecoming queen any more than I was offended by a caucasian woman recently being elected homecoming queen at Hampton University.  My problem is that Billy Mary’s new homecoming queen didn’t have to share with the world that he/she is “transgendered”. (Seriously, I am not trying to offend transsexuals here, I am just not sure from the article whether this individual is a transsexual or simply a transvestite).

I remember as a child when race was used to make a political statement at such events; perhaps I’m just a little too old fashioned not to be more sympathetic with this type of “statement”.  However, it has been my experience that people tend to be a tad more tolerant when this type thing isn’t just pushed into our collective faces.

  1. After reading the entire article, nobody involved seems to have a problem with it. Actually they seeem pretty supportive. She or zi as the case may be is not homecoming queen hot. however. Zi is only gender-queer hot.

  2. I agree, have some dignity and keep that personal.

  3. You mean you're more tolerant when it's "kept in the closet".

This is the 21st century. Get with the times or be left in the dust.

  7. well, if you dont believe in the Bible good for W&M... Great job being fair.

If you do then, Sodom and Gomorrah are the first thing that comes to mind, wow we as a society are spinning out of control and down fast. I would think some of you really hope that the scripture is not true and pray "thats funny" that it will not come true. Your going to keep warm in the after life.

W&M are you not a Catholic College? Unreal

  10. Come on ANON 10:22. As much as I am shocked that is one of the more wacked comments I have read on here. Yeah I am sure the parents had it in their minds to raise a kid in this manner. That being said my own personal beliefs is that this individual should not be allowed to be the queen. It leaves way too much open for other folks that follow "different" paths to be in there.

  14. Love thy neighbor as thy self. Judge not, lest ye be judged. You all get so enraged that this is not Christian and goes against the Bible, yet your reaction is not very Christian, unless of course if you decide to stone the individual. Please remember, most of the world is not Christian, never has been and I believe tolerance will attract alot more converts to your faith than hate.

  15. 10:22

As a parent of a gay son, no parent "raised him that way". My son grew up in a two-parent middle-class (maybe lower-middle) home. Boy Scouts, soccer, two younger brothers. Never in my wildest imagination would I have thought I would hear "Mom, I'm gay". I did not raise a "freak" as many of the readers here would call him.

This is the type of attitude that scares me every time my son leaves the house. While he is not an "obvious" gay man (not effeminate), it worries me that he is faced with hate from people who don't know the person he is. Would you "choose" to be gay in a world with this attitude?

  18. 8:10 AM there is a difference in being gay and being "gender-queer"(what ever that really means). A man or boy that dresses like a woman is definitely a freak. A normal looking guy that likes to smoke a white owl on occasion is wrong but more acceptable to normal people. Sorry about your son's choices in life, but homosexuality is wrong. A society that forces sideshow gender queer freaks down our throats is wrong. But then again look at the idiots that voted for Obama. This country is rapidly becoming the laughing stock of the World.

  19. 8:10 Thank You, as a gay man I know it had nothing to do with my parents and how they raised me. It was a long struggle to know who I am, no I did not want to be gay, and fought it for years. My parents are very accepting and I am thankful for them.
I grew up in a large Italian family, steel workers, hunters and such. They are all accepting and more understanding because they know me.

The College of William & Mary is a state supported institution in Williamsburg, VA. Among its many distinguished alumni is Thomas Jefferson.

I was born in 1960. That makes me 49 years old.

I don't know who Steve voted for for President. I don't care. However, I do concur with his sentiments. Why don't you?

It is people expressing the very same type of opinion as you that have led to the demise of our culture. Yes, as Christians we are charged with forgiveness; that does not mean that we should accept every behavior. Perhaps you will next be arguing that the prison doors be opened?

I don't agree with people attacking this person. That is not why I wrote this post. However, I am getting sick and tired of people (evidently people like you) demanding that I accept every behavior under the sun in the name of diversity.

Very well stated. I honestly believe that the majority of Americans (including those of us who claim to be Christians) would not argue that "you raised a freak". I never argued that Billy Mary's new homecoming queen was "a freak". I want your son to live in a world where he will not be persecuted for the way God made him (and yes, I believe that homosexuals are born, not indoctrinated). However, I would hope that you raised your child such that he doesn't feel the urge to make his sexual orientation a public display.

  22. yep your right, but Chistians role over on all issues. This is exactly why others use it against them. We are losing God in every part of government because we turn the other cheek. We turn the other cheek in everything.

I know it is right to so patience but Liberals, non believers use it as a weakness on our part. I see all these institutions teaching anything but Christianity and the liberal run school system, colleges, high schools all trying to get rid of God.

All Im saying is I hope they enjoy the heat for their decisions.

  23. Then why not change the title from Homecoming Queen to "Homecoming trans gender person" or whatever it is. The term homecoming queen is certainly not the appropriate term for this individual.

  24. Keep the Homecoming Queen and Court and trash the freak show and anyone that supports it.

I don't want my kids learning anything about homosexuality and the transgender wierdos. Go play Butt Darts somewhere else and leave it in the closet!
