This is what you get when your Mayor can only work Part Time.

  2. Salisbury is a dead town, its just going to keep getting worse and worse until anybody that can move away will. The Mayor used the blogg to get elected, and now hes to good for it. No carachter & No backbone. Hes a joke.

  3. If we worked full time the river would be clean?

  4. Disgusting! Is there any life left?

  5. remember the press conference he held to state the river was a top priority? hell, what the heck does he do, anyway, besides turn a blind eye to all our problems?

  6. Whatever, Joe. You think it was going to be fixed in a few months? Give money to Comegys next time since you think being full time for $25,000 is so important.

  7. Come on guys Atlantic Marine has the trash skimmer ready to go. I believe Frank would run it for a couple days as demonstration. It worked just fine years ago. Beats three guys with crab nets in a pontoon boat.

  9. Were about due for another bank robbery.

  10. This is what you get when people drop/lose trash in the streets, trees lose their leaves and branches and pollen, waterside plants go through their life cycles, construction site cleanup is sloppy, the wind blows, the rain falls and the tides ebb and flow.
Unless you're out there every day with a skimmer, it's going to look the same. And there's been no money put aside in a mayor's budget for ten years for operating a skimmer or otherwise performing frequent surface debris cleanup.
And, if I'm not mistaken, there is no skimmer, or at least not one that works.
There are lots of things to pin on the mayor, but I don't think this is one of them.

  11. anonymous 10:46, Thanks Jim, John P. and or Chuck, we appreciate your imput.

While this gets ignored and not cleaned up daily, it piles up more and more, or did you not think that through. Each day it gets worse. Are you telling us the Mayor should ignore this problem. Of course you are.

  12. 10:46 Please look behind Riverside Pharmacy at the Riverside boat ramp and guess what...The Trash Skimmer is there and restored. The mayor's campaign promise was to clean up the Wicomico.

  13. "The mayor's capaign promise was to clean up the Wicomico"

Then someone needs to start in the parks....stop people from feeding geese which in turn reward us with there huge piles of poop everywhere including the water. Then you have trash all over the place and bald spots where grass once was. Now they are doing something in the park and leaving a mess behind...I hope its worth it..I still can't find out what that project is about!!

    A concerned Fisherman!

  14. I'm GUESSING that the skimmer might not be able to get under the bridges on the south branch except at dead low tide. It looks like that pic was taken right by Market St. Inn.

  15. Let's also not forget that the City owns a trash skimmer. It was bought with matching federal money given to clean up Johnsons Lake. The study recommended a "freshwater marsh" be built to use the excess nitrogen in the lake there by reducing the hydrilla / algae. The City instead bought the trash skimmer to skim out the lake. I think it got there once or twice.....

  16. Anon 12:18 The skimmer has always fit under the bridge back when the city owned it. If you were around during the boat docking contest the skimmer was parked at Market Street Inn.

  17. High Tide occurs one or two times a day. No suprises here. Always dirty. I dont understand how ppl can live on those boats at the marina year round.

  18. It would be dirtier if Gary "I like dem 6-foot unfiltered pipes" Comegys were on the job full-time. He runs his pie hole about the environment all the time, but all he does is serve on committees and put hot gas into the air.

But I'll agree Ireton is a disappointment. He also held a press conference to say crime was a top priority. He's done nothing about that, nothing.

  19. Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Wicomico
    Aw, that's what's happenin' baby
    That's where you'll find me
Along with lovers, buggers and thieves
    Aw, but they're cool people

Well I love that dirty water
    Oh, Salisbury you're my home
Oh, you're the number one place

  20. Good thing we're getting a fire boat. The river could go up in flames anytime.

  21. For $25,000 a year I would do a shi**y job too. Its a joke that the mayor is not paid a salary worthy of being able to even live on. It means two things, 1)only a person who is already wealthy or has other significant sources of income can be mayor (which is BS because there are many hard-working middle class types of people could be great leaders but will never have a chance), 2)the current mayor has to work another job just to make ends meet (how can someone dedicate their life to our city when they have to constantly struggle to get the bills paid?). Come on people, this salary is a joke.

Doug you are exactly correct in your statement. I am very confident that Jim Ireton wouldn't have gotten elected if it wasn't for this blog and Delmarva Dealings. Jim Ireton took advantage of these blogs and the numerous readers just to get elected. He is a typical lying Democrat politician.

  23. So many expect miracles in such a short time! Give the man a chance - he IS working two jobs because he has to eat just like the rest of us, but he IS working hard to "fix" the many issues of our town. Here's a thought...why not HELP him get the job done instead of sitting at your computers criticizing? Give him some time to get things done - you are all worse than little kids in your quest for instant gratification! Disgustingly non-supportive of a man who is trying hard to help!!
