ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Martin O’Malley issued this statement today following the passing of civil rights leader and prominent Annapolis educator and author Philip Brown:
“I am saddened by the news today that we have lost a champion in education who fought for equality for all Americans regardless of race. Philip Brown has served as a model for a generation of younger Americans, particularly those born into injustice due to the color of their skin. He proved that we can preserve our history while challenging its flaws, exacting a more just future for the next generation.
“From a classroom in Annapolis, Brown confronted prejudice and inequality nationwide and in doing so, wrote a new, more honorable chapter in American history.”
