O'Malley Pitches Health Reform For DNC
Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) sought to do his part Thursday morning in helping Democrats push health-care reform through Congress.
In a conference call with reporters orchestrated by the Democratic National Committee, O'Malley argued that the cost of the current system is unsustainable for state Medicaid programs and employee benefits.
"It's the biggest part of our budget," O'Malley said. "If we do nothing, it's going to be impossible to keep up with those costs. ... It is utterly fiscally irresponsible to cling to the status quo."
O'Malley said health costs in the Maryland budget are projected to increase 7 to 8 percent a year in coming years.
Hari Sevugan, now the national press secretary for the DNC, joined the governor on the call. Sevugan, whom O'Malley referred to as "Mr. Sevugan" throughout the call, served as the communications director for O'Malley's 2006 gubernatorial campaign.
Not so surprisingly, Sevugan gave his former boss high marks for his remarks, telling reporters on the call: "I think the governor made a very compelling case."

O'Malley probably doesn't realize or believe that if they pass this fiasco that more not less will be put on the states. It's just foolish to think the gov't -Fedzilla- can save any money, much less to think they can cut spending and do better than the market. Gov't needs to get out of the way!!!
