New Castle Man Nabbed After Gas Station Robbery
Location: CPG Gas Station, 2036 New Castle Avenue, New Castle, Delaware, New Castle County
Date and Time: Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at 12:46 a.m.
Suspect(s): Norman H. Smith, 49, of Beale Avenue in New Castle, Delaware
Resume: At about 12:46 a.m., Troopers were called to the CPG Gas Station located on New Castle Avenue in reference to an armed robbery.
Officers arrived on the scene and contacted the victim (store clerk) and obtained the facts of the case. It was learned that the robber entered the store with a bandanna partially covering his face and approached the service counter. The bandit displayed a handgun and demanded cash. The clerk complied and the robber fled the scene southbound on Route 9.
A description of the suspect was broadcast to responding units who began to canvas the area. A male subject matching the bandit’s description was located about a ½ mile south of the CPG Station on Route 9. This subject was identified as Norman Smith.
Smith was transported back to the scene and he was positively identified as the robber. He was found to be in possession of the stolen money, however, the weapon he used was apparently discarded.
Norman Smith was formally charged with Robbery (felony) and Wearing a Disguise during the Commission of a Felony (felony). Bail information was not available at the time of this release.
UPDATE: Norman Smith was arraigned and issued an $11,000.00 secured bond. He was subsequently committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute.
Delaware seems to be able to close criminal cases, why not Salisbury?
ReplyDeleteWe need the national guard I wonder if we flood the Governor with emails if he would help . SOS
ReplyDeleteWe need a Police Chief that can motivate and earn respect from his officers and the public. Then we have to give them the resources which are needed to get what has happened to Salisbury fixed, me personaly I would pay them more. Thats what Salisbury needs the most right now,IMO. Sh!t if you have lived here all your life like some of us have, its all about pride now. We love this place, its been our home our entire lives. No-one comes into our town and pushes us around. Thats exactly whats been going here for a very long time. It makes no differance if its coming from local morion politicians or thugs. I never thought about being buried anywhere else but here, still dont. Its all about Pride & Principles...
