City Of Fruitland Newsletter

CITY HALL

The Fruitland City Council will meet in regular session on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 7:30 in the City Council Chambers. The usual staff meeting will be held in the conference room at 7:00 pm to review the agenda with Council members. A draft copy of the agenda is enclosed for Council members to review. The City Council minutes for the September 8, 2009 meeting are also included in this mailing for review before the meeting.

RECREATION COMMISSION

The Fruitland Recreation Commission will meet on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 7:00 pm. The agenda and minutes will be distributed when available. Kim Marshall has asked for a leave of absence as Secretary of the Commission. We are also in need of a Chairman.

POLICE

The Sea Gull Century Bicycle event will begin at 6:00 am on Saturday, Oct 10. It is anticipated that approximately 7800 cyclists will be participating; traveling through Fruitland near the roundabout as they make their way toward Worcester County. As cyclists will be traveling this route in the early morning hours, residents are encouraged to use other roadways toward their intended destinations.
Officers have been extremely busy in the past week investigating several criminal offenses (assault, theft, MDOP) which have resulted in a total of 18 arrests. Good job by all.

PUBLIC UTILITIES

Joe Derbyshire commented that he had nothing to report for this week as it has been very quiet and very slow. I hope he “knocked on wood”.

OTHER

Get well wishes are sent to Kim Marshall who has been battling additional physical problems the last few weeks. Get well soon Kim.

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

In 1915, racer Gil Anderson set a new auto speed record on the opeining day of races at the Sheepshead Bay Speedway located in Brooklyn, New York. Driving a Stutz automobile, Anderson achieved an average speed of 102.6 MPH over a 350 mile course, breaking the 100 MPH barrier while setting a new speed record for such a distance.
