TRAFFIC ALERT

Section of Choptank Road to Close Wednesday

Road will be closed between Bethel Church Road and Churchtown Road

Middletown -- The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that a portion of Choptank Road will be closed starting Wednesday, Sept. 16. The closed portion, between Churchtown Road and Bethel Church Road, is expected to open in late November, weather permitting.

The closure will make it possible for crews to rebuild the northern-most section of Choptank Road and build a roundabout at the intersection. By closing the road completely, work can be finished safer and a road that is closed entirely is safer for both the construction crews and motorists.

A temporary road will provide a route for through traffic using Bethel Church Road.

There will be no access to Choptank Road from Bethel Church Road during the closure.

While closed to through traffic, local residents will have access by using Churchtown Road to Choptank Road. DelDOT will also provide access for customers and employees of the produce business that is near the intersection of Bethel Church Road and Choptank Road.

This closure is part of a multi-year project to rebuild Choptank Road, that started in the summer of 2007 with the roundabout at Bunker Hill Road and Choptank Road. The project is scheduled to end spring of 2010.
