More Budget Cuts Coming Soon?

Two weeks after he won approval for more than $700 million in cuts to close a widening budget gap, Gov. Martin O'Malley told reporters yesterday that "it wouldn't surprise me if we had another one hundred, two hundred million to cut." O'Malley said the estimate's based on discussion with his budget staff and reading of the economy. He's set to get an update on state revenue projections next week. The Post's John Wagner writes that the governor said he had no advance knowledge of what the panel will report.

  1. Great job Mr. O'Malley. Next time listen to the folks that say if you raise taxes you collect less money. They were right, you were wrong, it's time for new leadership in Annapolis and Washington. Good bye Dems!

  2. Any surprise? He hasn't truly balanced the State budget since he took office.

Coming in and with his first round of increasing spending, he argued that BRAC would pay for it. Just how many military bases are there on DELMARVA?

  3. Stop paying prisoners to work and quit paying teachers to "educate" them. What does a lifer need with a college degree? he ain't going to ever use it

  7. Well, O'Gov and the dems insisted on expanding healthcare eligibility, even though we all saw this train wreck coming.
What are they cutting from that?
    Nothing, of course.
    That program buys votes--

  9. Why more paycuts when DC was going to reimburse us $3 million for "security" during the Inauguration?

  10. when is health and education going to reach the chopping block? They are the only ones that haven't been remotely affect by the economic down turn. I guess I decided to go down the wrong career path-I should have been a male nurse or teacher. That being the case, can I have some money to go back to school since there is such an abandance of it in the education budgets?
