MAYOR TO THROW FIRST PITCH AT SHOREBIRDS GAME SATURDAY

Mayor James Ireton, Jr., invites the public to join him on Saturday, September 5, 2009, at 7:05 p.m., as he throws the first pitch at the Delmarva Shorebirds game as part of Census Awareness Day at the ball park.

The Mayor and the Delmarva Shorebirds have partnered with the Census to urge Marylanders to stand up and be counted on April 1, 2010. Census representatives will be on hand with information and giveaways.

Mayor Ireton will also be helping the Salisbury Fire Department raise money for the “Fill the Boot” campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) at Saturday’s Shorebirds game. The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and Muscular Dystrophy have had an unbreakable bond for over 55 years. Every year, fire fighters across the country hit the streets to "Fill the Boot" and raise money to benefit the MDA. This year the Salisbury Career Fire Fighters Association has brought the tradition to our city. Career and volunteer fire fighters were at various locations throughout the city on September 3rd and 4th filling their boots, and they will be ending their fundraising efforts on Saturday, September 5th at the Shorebirds Stadium.

The MDA is the IAFF's charity of choice due to the fact that all donations stay locally in our region to assist families with equipment, research, medical consultations, and summer camps.

"Come out and join us Saturday night at Shorebirds Stadium as we increase awareness about the 2010 Census and help Salisbury Firemen raise money for Muscular Dystrophy," said Mayor Ireton.
