For Gilchrest, It's No Political Wilderness

Post national political reporter Alec MacGillis takes a look today at what former Rep. Wayne Gilchrest has been up to since being ousted in the Republican primary last year.

We'll let some readers introduce the piece:

Losercuda notes the discrepancy between Gilchrest's post-Congressional career and those of his colleagues: "You mean he isn't working on K Street or the Penn Quarter at $750 an hour? He isn't lunching at 701 at his "special" table? He isn't playing the middleman in pimping out lower-income voters on behalf of big oil/insurance/mining/pharma? He isn't sitting outside the Hearing Room yelling "Hey Cowboy!" at his former colleagues (for $750 and hour)? You mean he is taking homeless kids on nature walks and teaching them about the environment? God, what a loser."

faithfulservant3 offers support for Gilchrest's goals: "I like the concepts of 'regular' environmental field trips that even nonprofessionals can lead. The Chesapeake Bay Agreement calls for each high school graduate to have just one meaningful watershed educational experience. Why not one a year? Keep the science simple, and keep in mind that you are teaching 'ethics.' "

  1. I don't really care what he's doing now -- I'd never vote for a liberal who masquerades as a conservative.

  3. Ah yes, the high life of helping poor children learn about the environment. Just like Mother Teresa, living high on the hog!

get a grip and stop being so cyncical about everyone, seems like he is a pretty good man.

  4. I miss Wayne, he was a decent man. Not surprised to see him doing this type of environmental service. Better than Andy going on national TV, bragging about his work at a "rural hospital" PRMC. He still has not worked a day at the hospital, and they have no paperwork on him to even do that.

  5. Kudos to Wayne. This is an honorable thing to do post-Congress. Losercuda got it right with his satire. How dare Wayne not try to suck off the system for the big bucks.

  6. 7:37 You are dead wrong about Harris, he has worked there several weeks ago and did a fine job. You are a liar, I worked along side of him in the O.R. Typical lying liberal.

  8. I worked with Dr. Harris at PRMC , he was very professional, hardworking and competent. Your PRMC "exec" needs to get their facts straight, and so do you.
