Fernando Guerrero Has A Challenger
An opponent for Fernando Guerrero has been chosen and approved by the sanctioning body of the NABO for the Oct 10th title fight at the Shorebirds Stadium. Fernando at 15-0 with 13 knockouts with face the very experienced Ossie Durran 23-7-2 . Durran is rated #1 in his home country of Ghana and has never been stopped in his 32 fight career. He is now fighting out out of Paterson, New Jersey is expected to give Fernando his biggest test to date. Durran has fought in 5 ,10round bouts and 8 , 12 round bouts which gives him a huge advantage in late round experience. Durran has faced and beat many boxers with excellent records. This will be Fernando's first ever 10 round bout and has only gone 8 rounds two times in his career. In total Durran has 233 rounds of professional experience under his belt loosing a 10 round decision to the highly touted James Kirkland. Tickets are expected to go on sale sometime next week.
As a side note it was passed on by Guerrero's co-trainer Barry Hunter that, Guerrero's training partner and close friend Lamont Peterson has inked a deal to fight world Champion Timothy Bradly, date to be announced.
Duran's an OK fighter. He hasn't won a bout since February 2007, although his last three opponents (two defeats and a draw) have been pretty good. Duran's a good test for Guerrero. If Guerrero can knock him out we'll know for sure that Guerrero's a legitimate prospect.
ReplyDeleteCome on, Set him up with someone who can fight. Well, if they want to keep tossing in small rats then go ahead. Hes winning and I guess thats what matters.
ReplyDeleteWhen is he going to fight some one that isnt a has been?
ReplyDeleteHal is doing this thing correctly. Fernando is getting the experience he needs to go for the title eventually.

ReplyDeleteI doubt there will be any game cancelled for the fight, because I heard on the news yesterday that the Shorebirds were knocked from any playoff contention they might have hoped for....
