Piedmont Airlines is reducing it's fleet of Aircraft. This is the former Henson Airlines based in Salisbury. They've already returned 4 aircraft this spring and are planning to return an additional 7 this fall. This will constitute a 20% reduction in the fleet that was at 55 at the beginning of '09.
Has to be a few quality jobs lost there.
ReplyDeleteI guess they got word that another commuter is coming to salisbury and are planning accordingly.
ReplyDeleteI needed to fly from here to California. A round-trip ticket from SBY was almost double what it cost to use BWI or PHL.
ReplyDeleteMy answer was "Sorry." I used BayRunner to BWI instead.
If Piedmont (dba USAir Express) wants to keep their business in Salisbury, then they need to offer competitive prices. Charging almost the same for SBY-PHL as you can fly across the country is simply a rip-off.
Trust me, if it were up to Piedmont Airlines, they would still be servicing BWI, DCA, PHL, and CLT. Piedmont is a Wholly-Owned sub of UsAirways based in Tempe Az. They have no say in pricing, routes, fleet size etc. It is all determined by UsAirways. Good Luck getting another carrier into Sby. The only reason it's serviced is because Piedmont's corporate HQ and maintenance facility's are located here because of the sweetheart deal Richard Henson worked out with them(SBY) when he located he company here..
ReplyDeleteMy previous job required 3 to 4 flying days per week. I found that Philadelphia Airport was totally unreliable. Therefore I could no longer use Salisbury because that is where they fly.
ReplyDeleteSouthwest got all my business out of Baltimore. About $100,000 annually.
This company has been struggling for sometime. Its unfortunate, but I think that this may be a direct result of how they treat their employees. Anyone who has used this company consistantly can probably tell you how poor and unreliable its service can be.
ReplyDeleteWell! If the picture has anything to do with it, I think they should have less planes!

ReplyDeleteQ100 operators consider Bombardier's life extension programme
By Mary Kirby
Bombardier's new Dash 8 Q100 life-extension programme has received a warm reception from two of the largest operators of the type in the world.
Air Canada Jazz and US Airways subsidiary Piedmont Airlines say that the programme is under consideration by management.
"We are certainly evaluating the proposal, but no decision has been made yet," says Jazz.
US Airways says: "We are aware of the life-extension programme. [It is] too early to say exactly how Piedmont would fit into the programme, but it's certainly something to work with if it's right."
A growing number of Q100s in operation today are coming close to crossing the current 80,000-cycle threshold. Bombardier's life-extension programme would increase the economic life of these aircraft by 50%, or to 120,000 cycles.
Jazz operates 36 Q100s, while Piedmont operates 40.
"Although we don't publicly disclose specific information regarding aircraft cycles, I will say that the Dash 8 Q100 aircraft in our fleet are not nearing their maximum life cycle in the near term," says the airline.
The programme may be making a particularly timely entrance, however. Piedmont in recent years contemplated replacing its Q100s with newer turboprops, but shelved those plans due to the current economic recession.
"There has been talk in recent years of a replacement fleet type at Piedmont, but that effort has been put on hold. When the economy recovers, the fleet-replacement effort will resume," says US Airways.
Bombardier says a single Q100 in the world fleet is expected to reach the 80,000-cycle threshold in 2010. From 2011 to 2019, however, the Canadian airframer expects 128 more will reach that point for a fleet total of 129.
Bombardier's historic deliveries for the Q100 total 299 aircraft.
Last flight at one airline was 924HA
ReplyDeleteLast flight at another airline
was 924HA
907HA still around?
Having worked at one time for Piedmont airlines, I could tell you first hand how many times they comprimised public safety, badgered their employees and treated the public badly.
ReplyDeleteQuality jobs! HAHAHAHA
I remember when they got the loan from the state for the test cell, how many socalled jobs where supposed to appear out of thin air. Where's the test cell at today? Currently they have non liscensed people working on the airplanes with a few liscensed mechs coming behind them and signing off their work, all in an effort to pay as little as possible. Personally I would never fly USscareways! do yourself a favor and drive to BWI and take southwest. It may take a little more time but you'll be thankful you did!
The head of the airport is joke, everytime I see or hear of him talking about regional jets I laugh. no one is going to bring regional jets into sby for a long long time! communities bigger than sby have no regularly scheduled airline service.
Well. Mr. Idiot. Having been in the ORIGINAL PIEDMONT AIRLINES FAMILY BEFOR THE DAMN YANKEES RUINED IT. You are full of it!! Piedmont Airlines when owned & President TOM DAVIS WAS IN CHARGE NEVER TREATED THEY'RE CUSTOMERS BAD. BEFORE YOU SPOUT OUT YOYR B.S. CJECK STATS& FACTS. MORON.
