Fruitland Council Meeting

The "work session" agenda for the Bennett middle school issue that has been scheduled for Tuesday at 6:30 PM is now posted on the city website.Folks who are interested in the discussion should plan to attend-- this is an important issue and it will dramatically affect life in Fruitland if the school is built there. It will also create a lot of i$$ue$ involving the construction and upgrading of infrastructure if it happens.Fruitland citizens should be sure they know what is going on with this issue and make their desires known.

  1. I will be at work and cannot attend this -- can someone please clarify for me here if I am reading this correctly -- are they discussing putting Bennett Middle School in Fruitland?

  2. There are two locations in the finals - one on Division Street in Fruitland, between Rt. 13 and Camden, and the other inside the bypass on Snow Hill Road in Salisbury. The BOE's engineers are comparing costs at both sites and looking to see which offers the better deal for the county.

  3. In other words-- which town is going to be willing to make the best deal to upgrade streets, etc, at taxpayer expense so the WCBOE can get it built cheaper?
It's gonna cost some $$ to build that school, but also some $$ to "fit it into" the surrounding community.
LOTS more traffic in some areas. Not just busses, but LOTS of very busy mommies in their SUV's.
Lots of road work will be needed, especially at already-dangerous intersections like Rt 13 and Division St.
And with a big school nearby, what about staff levels/equipment for fire and police?
Everybody needs to think and talk this over carefully before making any decisions, and the whole process needs to be very transparent and public.
Is a new school needed? Sure. But it must be done in a way that is best for the kids and the communities involved, not just the cheapest deal the BOE can carve out.

  4. Since you brought up Fruitland, does anybody know what happened to Captain Truitt? I heard he has been on admininstative leave for months. What's up with that? I have never meet a better cop so something sounds fishy to me.

  5. I moved from Fruitland years ago because the taxes and water/sewer bill were a joke. Good luck to all residents, you are screwed both ways, because no one wants to buy a home in Fruitland and your taxes and water/sewer bill are going up yearly or often.

  6. 9:10AM, you hit the nail on the head, either way we are screwed, can't sell it and can't afford to stay in it. Guess I'll just stay until they throw me out.
