I know we live in the country, (so to speak) but it's pretty bad when corn starts to grown on the street. Ignore the date on the photo provided, it's the default date set on the camera. It was taken 2 days ago on the streets of Delmar.
Well, if it is going to be enforced in Delmar it should be enforced all over the county. But who is the county going to fine on county roads? They will not fine their self. Remember, weed spraying and street sweeping were taken out of the budget effective July 1. Our homeowners assoc. contacted the county to see if we could pay them to be sprayed and have the sweeper come by. Said probably not b/c they had moved everyone from those jobs to others. Our county is going to be looking like a big pile of dung zoo !
Don't worry there is a bailout plan for the farmer that lost that seed. I hear he will get $200 for that one seed lost. However he will have to prove said seed is his by genetic testing that he must pay for, he must then show the expected yield from said seed, finally he will repay the government within 10 years for said seed at an interest rate of 55%.
(Disclaimer- early payoff is forbidden. In the event the farmer shall make a payment before the 1st of the month or after the 1st of the month he shall pay a $25 a day penalty fee for not making payment on exact payment date. If another seed is found to be off said farmers property he shall pay the federal government $50 per seed for clean up and disposal. Anyone found interfering with procedure will be arrested and imprisoned for no less than 10 years. Any lost seeds become federal government property.)
The weeds in the sidewalk is small potatoes. Look at the Lecates building, on the corner of Railroad Ave. and State St. That decrepid building hasn't even been completely boarded up for the last 5 years, yet nothing is done about it. But Delmar Code and Compliance will be on you in a second if you have an unregistered vehicle in your driveway. What's up with that place, Joe? That would make a good story.
I'm told someone bought the property and there's been some border issues that will soon be fixed. Aparently the back on the building sits 3 feet over state owned property behind the building.
Anyhow, we're told they're looking to improve the property with a restaurant downstairs and apartments upstairs.
Anon 10:19, you don't have a clue do you! The Code Enforcement Officer is an employee position. If there is need/cause to get rid of that person, it is the Town Manager, not the Council & Commission members to do it. I know of Council members and Commissioners who in the past have pointed out things no done or done incorrectly or other reasons to get rid of the Code Enforcement employee but I think the Town Manager is afraid of firing someone even when there is proven cause. The real person at fault here is the Town Manager. Maybe they should pass a requirement that the Town Manager lives inside the town so they will have to see what everyone else sees on a daily basis. As far as the elected officials, sure, some of them need to go but you also I guess are not aware of the extremely LOW voter turnout in Delmar, it really is pathetic! People regularly post on local blogs what they're unhappy with in Delmar but they DON'T vote and they DON'T show up at the Council meetings either. I must also add that more people should take more pride in their communities and if you see this, then damn it, stoop down and pull it up. Oh, but that's too hard for most! Same people who complain about things like this are the same ones who blow their grass clippings and leaves into the street to stop up the storm drains so they can all complain about the flooded roads the next time it rains. Not much changes in Delmar really.
Former DFD Chief Joe Morris, Sr. used to walk thru downtown every week with his Round Up sprayer, killing the weeds in the sidewalk and pavement, because the town would not. One more way he is missed by the community. RIP, Joe.
Shannon 8:56 Shannon is right about these matters. Monsanto (my satan company) has trademarked life (seeds) and the Food Safety Bill will soon outlaw us from growning our own foods. When we invaded Iraq our government siezed their seed bank (over 1000 varieties of wheat seeds) and forced the Nation to use Monsanto seed. Monsanto seed is genetically modified to commit suicide. It will only produce food for one season. Genetically modified food makes genetically modified people. We are what we eat - remember?

ReplyDeleteMaybe if we call this street a "farm" the county will be allowed to till and weed!
ReplyDeletejust sayin"...
Soybeans would grow there, too!

It's not hurting anything, leave it alone and please don't ask for more government intervention, we have enough already.
ReplyDeleteDoes it really matter? Ghetto Delmar actually at its best. Heck, look at the road and the sidewalk.
ReplyDeleteI think I can I think I can!
ReplyDeleteRemeber everyone Delmar has a election coming up .There might be some new names on those ballots
