Clara Gunby Art Exhibit

Sunday, September 13, 2009, 1-4 PM, The Friends of Poplar Hill Mansion will present an art exhibit featuring the paintings of Clara Gunby. Clara, a local from Fruitland, was imprisoned for treason against the Union, and worked as a spy as a War Between the States. She was a fascinating, feisty of the Civil War era who was willing to suffer for a cause she believed in. After the War, Clara pursued her study of painting and became very well known for her art in Baltimore and New York. Poplar Hill Mansion is proud to house seven of Clara's paintings, the largest private collection of her work. Please join us to view her paintings and celebrate her 170th birthday. Admission is free, RSVP. Please consider bringing a donation of non-perishable goods to our food bank for Joseph House.

The Friends of Poplar Hill Mansion is a 501 (c) (3) dedicated to the preservation of this fine home, the oldest in Salisbury, built in the Federal style. Please consider becoming a Friend of Poplar Hill with membership beginning at the annual giving level of $25.00 which includes many benefits. Call the Curator for event information or visit the website.
