Councilwoman Shanie Shields was one of the victims of the most recent layoffs from Gannett Publications and the Daily Times. Shanie said she's going back to school so she can teach.
Shanie says she has an Associate Degree from Wor-Wic Community College, a requirement of which is English 101. Now, she told some of us in the VFW #10159 that if she enrolls in a school, she can collect unemployment benefits for a year, as opposed to six months. Some of us really know how to work the system.
a teacher? What parent would want to send their kid to a school where she would be teaching? I hope its not literature, English, or a similar class. No wonder our kids are being dumbed down.
I don't like to hear of anyone losing their job, it's not easy out there. Shanie however should make another career choice, teaching is definitely not her forte. She can't teach any of the 3 R's so what is left? Gym? Not likely. Cooking? Possibly.
Since she is unemployed it's a no brainer the landlords can have that 3-2 vote locked in fo' sho. She is already beholden to Maloney, Insley and Cockey.
Why is it that speach patterns like that abound around here? I personally heard a middle school principal say to parents at an orientation: "Weeze not gonna tolerate...". He was teaching our kids!!! When we got to meet then English teacher I asked her if she had an extra Grammar book lying around for the principal to study.
If she knows how to get around the system of getting one year unemployment vs. six months, this shows me how she "works" the system on the city council. Typical!
She will try to get an elementary school position but, I feel she is only able to be qualified to be an assistant not a teacher. Hope she knows how it feels to be out on your butt, what comes around goes around
Inquiring minds want to know:
ReplyDeleteWhen her "COBRA" extended health coverage (if she gets any) ends, will she go back on the City health insurance -- did she ever go off the City plan?
Seriously?!? Not sure if I should laugh or cry here...
ReplyDeleteGood luck to her. Losing a job is a bummer for anyone, but can open up new opps.
ReplyDeleteHope she takes some english classes
ReplyDeleteOr comon "Sentz" classes. LOL

ReplyDeleteTeach what?? Obamanomics! I'm sure she gets it because no one else does.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to know that someone on the city council is getting social security because can't even hold onto their own job.

ReplyDeleteShanie may not be the best choice in a Council member, but she is a kind and caring lady, please be a little kinder here.

She may be kind and caring but that doesn't bring the groceries home and neither will her being a teacher. Can't even imagine that.
ReplyDeleteAlternative School kids need her.
ReplyDeleteI hate to see anyone lose a job due to layoff or downsizing, lets all have a bit more compassion here...
