ORIOLES COLUMN: Please bow your head
Now I am a beyond dedicated O's fan and of course I am frustrated with the way that the season has progressed; however, I never give up on my team! Now everybody has their right to their opinion and their right to choose "their team", but I found this article completely distasteful! Apparently the Daily Slime, moreover Staff Writer Ben Penserga, is a "fair weather fan" that can't support it's team through its troubles! It is people like this that make our local sports teams fall short-teams need fans to buy memorabilia, tickets, beer, food, advertising, etc...When you quit on your team, you make them suffer even more! Why is Boston and New York so dominate? Its because every game is jam packed with fans that come and spend money which in turn goes to player salaries, player development and player acquisition. Boston and New York fans even help pay O's salaries because more of them show up to Camden Yards than O's fans when New York and Boston are in town for a series! Sure the O's pitching staff sucks this year, but look at what they have to go up against-Boston and New York have pitching payroles that nearly triple Baltimore's. Teams can not win without the support from their fans. So next time you complain about "your" team losing ask yourself this question, "when was the last time I went to a game?" And when, or if, the O's rebound it won't be because of people like Ben that gave up-it will be because of people like me that have already gone to 17 games this season!
Like I said, everybody has the right to their own opinion, but to publically ridicule, harass and degrade a local team is uncalled for in my opinion. As we all know this attitude displayed by the Times is also evident in its reporting of the local news as well.
Since the Times can hardly produce professional sports news in its sports section online, how do you (Joe) feel about doing a sports section on your blog?
Ben Penserga and the Daily Times, YOU HAVE BEEN BLOGGED!

How ya like it now JT?
ReplyDeleteYeh JOE!!!! Good to see Os headlines. I think as long a we don't trade K.singleton and build around him they will be fun too watch.
ReplyDeletethe post should have never went up period! However it is what u expect from the slime staff.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is WBOC's sports. They dont report on anything going on other than local sports which arent much. Meanwhile you have larger cities around us that have a large fanbase yet nothing is said. They'd rather report on the weather where Brian Keane says the same things everyday. How is it that channel has won any awards other than most repetitive newscast? Half the time happenings in Salisbury go unreported. Great coverage!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy is Boston and New York so dominate? Wow, Dave, that really is an excellent question. I bet teams are clamoring to hire you as an analyst.
ReplyDeleteWake up! It's a column, silly! The author is entitled to his or her opinion. That's the point of a column! You gonna send a crybaby letter to the newspaper if you don't like something Joe Albero posts?
Lastly: hey dummy, the Shore is 2-3 hours from Baltimore. How many games is a Salisbury sports guy realsticlly going to see? You halfwit nincompoop. Excuse me while I flip you the (Oriole) bird.
nincompoop, never ever seen that word spelled out,ha,ha,funny.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the Shorebirds? Local media does not cover them unless they are in 1st place or in the playoffs. Then they are the best team ever. The Shorebirds can be followed on the internet but the local media is to lazy to give the scores on away games. They do cover local schools to a degree and that is a joke. Then again what does the local media report that is not out of Deleware rn National news. These twoareas get most of the coverage. This might be a reason everybody wants to get Baltimore stations. I get more info from them and sooner than the local media outlets about this area.16 & 47 need to give it up
ReplyDeleteIt has been said that the Yankess don't have to put 1 fan in Yankee Stadium to make a profit. Enough said!
ReplyDeleteThe Orioles stink. I grew up an Orioles fan and believe or not still cheer for them. But we have been so bad for so long I can't blame anyone who has lost faith and chooses not to support them. They obviously don't care about us or they'd of made a greater effort to put together a team that could at least finish at .500.
ReplyDeleteThis was an opinion column he wrote correct? Have you read any major papers that cover professional teams? Columnists for years have written far harsher things about teams and their players. Now you will find these things on the Internet and sports blogs. That's what sports writers and news columnists get paid to do (even SBYNews! Opinions!).
ReplyDeleteAnon 2:37 PM,
ReplyDeleteThat may have been "said" but why were all the season box seat ticket holders pissed off when they raised the price of their tickets for the new stadium? Seems to me if they didn't have to sell tickets to turn a profit that they wouldn't have had to raise ticket prices...
The times doesn't have a sports writer , they don't have any writers worth mentioning . I mentioned in another post if it's printed , that Charmin is much cheaper and softer.
ReplyDeleteThe sports editor was let go a few weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteYou won't have to worry about the Orioles once they move to Norfolk or Las Vegas.
ReplyDeleteO's suck
