What Are You Doing For The 4th Of July?
Are you one of the many people that stop in parking lots and purchase Fireworks for the 4th of July? I see quite a bit of Fireworks in Sam's Club too.
Nevertheless, with the Shorebirds not shooting off Fireworks this year, what will you do. Last week we posted information about places to go. Will you get together with your neighbors and shoot off your own Fireworks? Or will you simply head out to one of the many locations offering a Show?
I have not seen any Press Releases about what the law states in Maryland/Delaware and or any information from our local Fire Departments referencing what we can or can't do from home. Perhaps someone can chime in on what we can and can't do on our own.
It wont be in Salisbury thats for sure. It has nothing to offer. Its not the Shorebirds responsibility to have fireworks. Its the civic groups on City of Salisbury's responsibility. This is why people want nothing to do with Salisbury. I will be going to the wonderful town of Hebron where they have a great show. Small town America is still alive there. Salisbury can feast on its urban decay with crime, prostitutes, gangs and filth. Happy 4 th.
ReplyDeleteSparklers, thats it Joe. Frigging Sparklers for 4th of July LOL.
ReplyDeleteI can remember as a child that Salisbury was the place to be on the 4th. The jaycees and civic groups came together and put on a fine show. Thats all changed now and there is a yearly scramble to piece a show together if there is one at all. I never thought I would see the day where Hebron outshined Salisbury on the 4th. What a great show and a wonderful litle town. Salisbury is a thing of the past.
ReplyDeleteI will be at the beach, where the city is run correctly and I have three choices.
ReplyDeleteWill be in West OC at a friends house thats right across from the inlet. It's been tradition since I was s child. It was hard to decided between OC and Willards though. Last year was great when they were on two different nights. Since I've been going to this same place for about 30 years it won out over Willards. Sure do wish I could do both though. Willards had an awesome show last year.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to play laser tag at the Crown. 15.00 all-u-can-play on 4th of July.
ReplyDeleteTrue - Salisbury isn't haveing fireworks on the 4th.. Laurel has there fireworks each year (And they aren't 1/2 bad) Not to far of a drive .. Not to mention the 4th of July festival that goes on all day in the center of town.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone recall the year Salisbury (I believe it was the Lions Club) had a fireworks show over by Target.. That was one of the best shows & a great time too!
Wich we could get that back..
Salisbury is the pits when it comes to anything - not only fireworks. They are so anti everything, I can't believe this town.
ReplyDeleteHebron always has a GREAT show!!
ReplyDeleteActually it was the Salisbury Jaycees that held the show by Target. They sponsored the fireworks in Salisbury for nearly 40 years.
ReplyDeleteHowever the cost of the show continued to rise the support from local municipalities and donors declined more each year until it was not affordable for a 100% volunteer organization.
Its a shame but a sign of the times. Thanks Jaycees for what you did when you could and thanks to those in surrounding communities who are working to keep the July 4th fun for everyone.

- Gee, I wonder why? Joe, do you have any incite into this?
True, the ShoreBirds won't be having fireworks displays on the 4th.
ReplyDeleteHowever, they will have them on both the 2nd and 3rd, since those are both home games.

I don't want to hear this crap about how the Jaycee's can't find funding for their fireworks. They get half the money from the county, but they won't get off their lazy butts to get the rest. Also, don't even think about using the economy as an excuse this is at least the 3rd straight year that the Jaycee's aren't going to do it. That's the problem with this city everyone sits back and points the finger at someone else. Salisbury is one of the largest cities on the Shore yet we don't have fireworks, but then you go to Hebron, fireworks, Laurel, fireworks. This is just crazy.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the fireworks that will be generated at the tea party on the 4th at the government office building from 9am till 12 noon. The results may be more than just a quick flash that regular fireworks usually produce.
ReplyDeleteThe enconomy has been bad for a few years and donors have continued to cut back...since 2006.
ReplyDeleteNot sure where you get your information, but the County did not give the Jaycees half the cost.
The City and the County did provide some assistance but not HALF of it and as a matter of fact..the Jaycees actually raised most of the funds themselves. Fact is, the City and the County actually reduced their funding commitment to the Jaycees fireworks in the years leading up to the shows cancellation.
This group is by far lazy...that is evident in the awards they win for their Community Service projects including the Christmas Parade and Treat Street. Oh an by the way...I dont think lazy would have raised 8K for Brooke Mulford just a few months ago.
Have a great Fourth...oh and by the way... Jaycees GREAT JOB for all you do for this community.

ReplyDeleteWhy do you get off your lazy butt and do something about it and quit pointing your fingers.
