A Very Sad Local Story

A young woman named Katie Smith, (mid 20's) worked at Atlantic Smith Cropper and Deely Insurance Office in Willards. She was 8 months pregnant and went into work yesterday morning where she started having seizures. They called 911 and went into full cardiac arrest.

Sadly, Mrs. Smith unfortunately passed away after being on life support. They did deliver the Baby in an emergency c section and are concerned with the child's condition.

I will update everyone just as soon as more details come in, Funeral Arrangements and so forth. The Atlantic Smith Cropper and Deely Insurance Office in Willards closed their doors yesterday at 11:00 AM because of this sad situation.

On a personal note, these are the times in which I hate breaking this kind of news. Believe me, the Family is in our thoughts and prayers, especially for the infant child.

  1. Joe, this is very sad. I feel for the employees, friends and family. It is also difficult for the EMS crews involved. I believe they had 2 cardiac arrests yesterday and this by far has to be the worst kind to encounter. So young and a mother to be at that. I am shedding a tear and saying a prayer for everyone.

  5. Everyone involved, family, friends, co-workers, EMS are in my prayers.

We don't always know why these tragedies take place, and perhaps we aren't suppose to.

Life is very fragile. Make each day we spend with our loved ones full of happiness, love and companionship, we never know when God will call us home.

  11. The outpouring of sympathy is warm and part of our community spirit.

Please let us know if we can set up a scholarship fund or something for the Dad and child.

  14. I knew this young lady and she was a fine person and would have been a wonderful mother. My prayers are with her husband and family--and particularly for the baby. This is one of the saddest things I've heard in a long time.

  16. The joy of a mother for her child is beyond description. That first kick. The life inside of you and the anticipation of a toddler, the first day of school, graduation and full-circle to grandchildren. This baby was blessed with a loving mother, family, and loving friends. May the prayers and support of an entire community lift you in your time of sorrow. May God bless you and hold you in the palm of his hand as you move ahead.

  17. She had worked with my wife. This was a shock to all who knew her. So young,so much ahead, may God be with her husband and family during this time of sorrow.

Tomorrow is not promised. Maby a blessing that can come from Katie's untimely death will be that it will cause each one of us to do a self-inventory of where we are in our relationship with God Almighty and His Son.

  18. I also knew Katie. She was a friend of my daughter's and she was a very dear person. This baby meant the world to her and it is such a tragedy. Again as was said before, tomorrow is not promised. When we leave our homes there is no guarantee we will return. Cherish your family, be free with grace and forgiveness. No one is perfect but everyone is priceless!

Please keep her parents, husband and her newborn daughter, in your thoughts and prayers. I miss her terribly. What a blessed person you were if you were lucky enough to have Katie in your life!

  21. It is truly such a happy time gone so tragically wrong. I look at my toddler daughter everyday and think about Katie and what she will not experience and what will be different for her daughter. The only peace I find is that hopefully neither one will know the difference because they didnt get to experience it. Katie was so happy and finally fulfilled by her new growing family. I have to find peace in that she had found what she was looking for and not put a time frame on it. Love is eternal-not confined by the human mind. In the meantime, as a human I have to mourn. Peace and love to all.
