I was honored to be invited to my 6 year old grand-daughters dance recital today. I am so blown away of the talent in this show. The lady who owns Feet of Fire has done a FANTASTIC JOB in teaching these young boys and girls. Yes there were boys that were very good, but the girls, or should I say young women were the stars.
I was blessed by having 3 boys and thought being a Soccer Mom was tough. Watching today the mothers, especially my daughter-in-law run back and forth to do hair, change costumes, and help in ay way to make the show run smooth. My job as a soccer mom was a piece of cake even with the boys on 3 different teams.
The hours the dancers have to learn a dance and practice amazes me. This means dedication from the dancers themselves and also from the parents and siblings. The emotion you could feel from the dancing was so moving I cried several times. Miss Shaun, the owner and teacher even danced and was truly loving every second of this. I could tell by her glow and smile in her eyes, and all this after having a baby 3 months ago. She looks great.
What I saw today on this stage was our future. The pure joy of something they all loved to do and took the time to work on this, and the confidence they had to perform. I saw hope today and I am looking forward to the next show.
Congratulations Feet Of Fire. Your awesome.

Miss Shaun is amazing! My 3 year old daughter was in the showcase yesterday as well. This is something that helps build confidence in our youngsters, and also gives them something to look forward to doing each and every week. It requires a lot of time on Miss Shaun's part, as well as her mother, Miss Linda. How both of these women manage to remember each and every child's name that walks through the doors of FOF is incredible!!! You rock Miss Shaun!
ReplyDeleteShaun could dance a soon as she could walk!! Shaun and my daughter grew up dancing together here in Crisfield a few years ago. She is the best, and so is her mom. I have seen her dancers perform, and they are awesome!!
ReplyDeleteShaun was born with talent! Her students love her and look forward to her classes.
ReplyDeleteWhat I find special is that at a recital, the students all know what they are supposed to do once on stage. You can tell they have put lots of time in learning the dances.
I had my daughter at Salisbury Studio. I won't mention the instructor's name but I can say this, her way of teaching is by screaming. My daughter got to the point that she didn't want to go. She would cry after a class and beg me not to take her back.
Since switching, I have seen a huge difference in so many ways. Yesterday I was proud of my daughter but equally proud of each person on that stage. It was so nice not to see the little ones practically turned sideways watching someone off stage showing them the steps. Instead those little ones were precious!
Great job to all of you who danced and to all of you parents. Shaun, thank you for caring about our children and teaching them with your special gift.
A proud parent
I can't comment on their past dance recital as I was not there, but I have seen these girls out dancing before and am very disturbed by their outfits. They have little girls with hardly any clothes on and the 'dancing' they do is not true ballet. Some of the moves they do I do not find appropriate and would not feel comfortable allowing my child to participate in that. There are lots of dance studios that focus on the true art of ballet, but I do not find this to be one of them.
ReplyDelete1:15 well thank goodness there are other studios. I wouldn't want to be around such a negative person such as yourself. To each his own!
ReplyDeleteYes costumes are flashy but they wer tasteful. Nothing was showing and they seemed to benifit all the dancers of every shape and size.
ReplyDeleteAgain it was a true pleasure to be there and be on the edge of my seat waiting for the next dance.
Miss Shaun I am so happy that you have come along and teach the art of dancing while loving it. It really did show on everyone's face.
One little girl that was in one of the beginning shows sat in front of me and was so excited and talked about what she did and while she was watching the dances on stage she was telling her daddy that she was going to learn to dance like that. In a nut shell that is what it is all about.

My daughter has perfomed in the last 3 FOF showcases... the self esteem and confidence these girls have is unbelievable!! They truly love to dance and love Ms Shaun... I would not have my daughter at any other studio...FEET OF FIRE ROCKS!!!!! By the way thanks for noticing the moms in this whole thing!!!

I think the negativity displayed by the one poster is actually jealousy that they are trying to conceal. I was taught that if you don'thave anything good to say then don't say anything at all.
ReplyDeleteI know there's such a thing as competition, but can't everyone agree that with the various schools in Salisbury, each brings its own perspective? My daughter's been at Salisbury Studio for six years now and I see the same confidence and love of the dance in her performance that's obviously inspired at FOF. I think it's nice to have such a variety of styles in this town that allow everyone a chance to participate regardless of their skill level.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't we expand upon the good feelings brought about by the first post in sharing our own joy as parents and grandparents at watching our children in this art? Why must we turn to bashing and "mine is better than yours".... that's crazy!
Well I am the "negative" poster and I am not sure what you think I am jealous about. All I stated was something that is very obvious and I have heard from other parents as well. And if you doubt what I am saying, there are photos on their website that speak for themselves!
ReplyDeleteHaving been at D'Ann Danse before, and enduring the torture and misconduct that goes on there, I can say that Feet of Fire truly is the best dance studio around! Congrats to all on a fabulous dance recital again this year, and keeping on rocking!!
ReplyDeleteI agree, if you don't have anything nice to say than you shouldn't say anything at all.I find it sad to hear anything negative about FOF or the dedicated student. Anyone who truely knows Shaun knows her great character, and the pride she has in her studio. I agree that each studio has its own strengths. We should be proud and encourge each child in whatever they have a passion for. Whether it be Dance (Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Irish, Hip hop, etc...) sports, music and so on. I think that we should teach the importance of hard work, dedication, perseverance, confidence yet humility, and teamwork. Miss Shaun and her staff help to instill these Qualities through dance, in a fun and exciting way! Feet of Fire Rocks! and my girls are ready for another great year of Dance!
ReplyDeleteWe love Feet of Fire! If you have ever been to any recital for any company you know that the costumes are sometimes flashy. I think that Ms.Shaun is awesome and has made the best decisions possible for the girls. She shows them confidence, respect, control, and many other qualities that are needed to become a graceful young lady. She is a fantastic role model, outstanding woman, and wonderful mother. I am honored to know her and have my daughter be part of her FOF family. While I sat in the auditorium of their show I laughed, cried, and felt every emotion that those girls put out there. FOF truly ROCKS!!!! Congrats on an amazing performance.
ReplyDeleteI, as a dancer at FOF, absolutely love it! Mrs. Shaun, the dances, the costumes, and the feeling I get from everyone there like I am part of their family..my dance family. I love them so much. I couldn't ask for better people. Love our dances, especially the lyrical ones..not ballet, since we've never said that we do that. Not the older girls. We love what we do. And it's sad that we have "adults" that are so much older than us, trying to discourage us from doing what we absolutely love doing. And if the little girl's costumes are so inappropriate, then why do the parents accept it? Because they are adorable! The kids love them and they look precious. Shaun, that I am so lucky to have not only as a teacher, but as a friend, is such a wonderful person. And it hurts to see and hear people talk negative about her, and the wonderful job that she does as the owner of FOF. The long nights of hard work, practice, and dedication are definitely worth it in the end!
ReplyDeleteHaving been dancing for almost 14 years now, I have always had a passion for dance. For the past 4 years i have been apart of the FOF family as well. The people at FOF are definitely my "second family". If I am ever having a rough day at school or just having a rough time i can always go in there, dance my heart out, and feel so much better. The positive attitude that is expressed at FOF is heart warming. I also feel that negative posts should not be made. I feel like whatever someone has a passion for they should be a able to express it in their own way. As a feet of fire dancer I am so proud and honored to be apart of the FOF family. Shaun, Thank you for all you have done. Your not only a teacher, friend, counselor at times but also an inspiration to many dancers.
ReplyDeleteMs. Shaun Is Very Good At what she does and i will be having my child dancing there next year, but shes a little right, the outfits should be more gracefull and the dance moves should be the right thing not just what shaun makes up .!
