I asked my close friend Mark McIver to provide me with some crime statistics last night and he responded with some information that was simply overwhelming! Did you know that the State of Maryland is ranked #3 in the entire Country for murders!
The violent crime rate is through the roof and Salisbury, Maryland being the 9th most dangerous city in all of America, (per capita) doesn't help matters any.
Perhaps Mayor Ireton needs to see these FACTS in order to realize, WE'RE NOT SAFE here in Salisbury! Clearly Chief Webster doesn't care. I encourage you to go to THIS LINK on Crime Solvers and see all the Cold Cases for murders right here in Salisbury that have gone unsolved.
The Salisbury Police Department, (before Chief Webster came on board) was respected as, (believe it or not) the most state of the art Police Department in America. There was a day, not that long ago, when the SPD would reach out to hire Officers and there were easily 250 applicants! Now they are begging to get anyone on board and with the loss of 8 Police Officers, they only have 2 in the Academy right now as hopeful replacements.
I want you to see the statistics for the State of Maryland below and recognize just how serious the murder rate is in our State. Remember, Salisbury is the 9th Most Dangerous "City" in America per capita. Chief Webster doesn't seem to understand NUMBERS but Salisbury News provides the facts. Granted, he may not like facing the tens of thousands of people that visit Salisbury News every day but the facts are the facts and we will not allow him to deny the facts any longer.

Okay Mark, it's not the Mayors fault. The kind of people that are have never been criminals are turning into desperate people that are now robbing & stealing. It sucks, but it's true. Let’s try to see what we can do to help and not just keep pointing fingers. What can we do to help the Mayor or the SPD?
ReplyDeleteI think it's not so much a pointing of the fingers at the Mayor as it is trying to show the Mayor how absolutely blind the chief is at the statistics being pointed out over and over on the crime in Salisbury. How can the chief say this isn't ture or accurate information?
ReplyDeleteI thought help was on the way??
It's because we have so many blacks in Salisbury. It's not PC to say that, but it's true. That top ten of murder reads like a top ten of "where are the most blacks in the US." The best thing about Obama is hopefully black men will finally get a decent role model.
ReplyDeleteSHOW SHANNIE!
ReplyDeleteThe real problem is not black or white or purple. It is a local and statewide problem. The government is responsible.
ReplyDeleteAre we forgetting parents, education systems, job oportunites, a place to do something besides hang in the street, much more to blame than the lack a$$ police chief we have.
ReplyDeleteAgreed you can not blame race on murder, economic conditions and environment have a direct impact. there is however a direct tie to gun control and concealed carry laws. Justified self defense is not included in the Uniform Crime Reports from the FBI.
ReplyDeleteso, there were at least 9 murders in wicomico cnty in 2007, I find that hard to believe
ReplyDeleteLike it or not, the amount of crime is related to the percentage of blacks in a population. This cannot be disputed. This comment does not make me a racist, but merely pointing out a fact concerning the topic. Blame the gov't, or whatever else you want. Sooner or later everyone will have to face the music that some things just can't always be blamed on Whitey or the government. Sometimes you may have to look in the mirror and decide to stop the cycle.
ReplyDeleteEconomic downturns typically increase crimes like shoplifting and B&E's for things to fence. They do not turn tons of people into armed robbers who murder, for pete's sake.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 12:51, You're an Idiot!
ReplyDeleteMaryland is one of the wealthiest states in the country and yet the murder rate is so high. Look at the Baltimore Sun's website and you read about a murder everyday. Yet, we want to abolish the death penalty.
ReplyDeleteMark, thanks for your diligence. These are hard statistics to accept but it is what it is. Now it is up to us, the people to turn this around. We can do so by letting our governments, federal, state and local know that we will not tolerate their inefficiency any longer. We must make this government work for us instead of special interest groups. It's time to raise our voices, loudly, at city and county council meetings. Most importantly, we need to raise our voices in the voting booths. Let these people know right here and now, they will not be reelected to represent any of us if they can't do the job they are currently elected to do.
ReplyDeleteSPEAK OUT SALISBURY!
the 800 lb gorilla in the room is gang activity. The crips among other gangs have moved into the area we need a gang unit and help from the federal government.
ReplyDeleteWhat percentage of those murders in Maryland are a result of fallout from DC? Im sure its a hefty number...
ReplyDeleteAnyone notice that neither Texas nor California made the list? I don't know about CA but Texas has very strict criminal laws. Maryland is full of a bunch of wimpy judges and even laxer laws!!! This is NOT a police issue but rather one of a weak judicial system...
ReplyDeleteWhy does the mainstream media avidly cover the racist museum shooting in DC but regular murders, which is utterly horrible there, goes unreported?
ReplyDeleteMan bites dog?
There is a reason DC is on top of the list and it ain't race.It is the ridiculous gun control laws.
