City Of Salisbury Press Release

SALISBURY MAYOR TO SEND OFF ALL-AMERICA CITY DELEGATION WITH A CHARGE TO WIN!

Salisbury Mayor James Ireton, Jr., will hold a press conference at 3:00 p.m. today, Monday, June 15, 2009, to address the All-America City delegation leaving for the competition in Tampa, Florida, on Tuesday, June 16, 2009.

The City of Salisbury is a finalist in the All-America City competition held annually by the National Civic League. This delegation of 19 individuals have worked diligently for the past two years with a committee of volunteers to complete a community assessment and identify projects that fit the criteria for the designation as an All America City. The criteria included:

•Collaboration

•Diversity

•Youth

The three projects selected for presentation at the competition were the Cold Weather Emergency Shelter (area churches), WinPAC (Health & Fitness), and the Youth Leadership Academy (Salisbury University). Salisbury was successful in making it as a finalist and will go to Tampa for the final competition. “This is an opportunity to gain national recognition for the positive community efforts to address challenges in our city,” says LorĂ© L. Chambers, Assistant City Administrator.
The press conference will be held in Room 301 (Council Chambers) of the City-County Government Office Building, 125 N. Division Street.

  6. This was already under Barrie's budget--let's hope Mayor Ireton has the sense to stop participating in this nonsense "contest" when he actually creates his budget. A waste of money. Here's how to get the exact same result without paying a dime: simply declare yourself "Salisbury: An All-American City." Done.

  8. Yes, this was in the process under BPT,but I would think that Jim could put a stop on it, or is he following in her footsteps all the way? It is a foolish waste of time and money!

  9. what a wank. This is a huge waste of money. I had hope Jim would get this city back to normal. He now looks overwelmed and I fear he will not get issues resolved.

  10. This was in the budget that the City Council voted for, Mayor Barrie Tilghman's budget. You saw what crap both Mayor Ireton and Mrs. Cohen and Mrs. Campbell went through for 2 changes to the budget (Urban Salisbury and Health Insurance). I'm sure he was picking his battles carefully and fighting for what was most important.
