Webster, blogger settle out of court
By Brian Shane
Staff Writer
SNOW HILL -- A lengthy legal battle between Salisbury's police chief and a
controversial Delaware blogger came to a presumptive end Wednesday after both
sides settled their differences without ever having their day in court.
Chief Allan Webster's lawsuit against Delmar resident Joseph Albero, 46, claimed
the blogger posted statements online that defamed his character, invaded his
privacy and put him in a false light. Webster was suing for $9,999 in damages.
As the plaintiff and a public figure, Webster had to prove in court that Albero
defamed him.
Instead, hours before their scheduled trial Wednesday afternoon, Albero issued a
one-sentence statement that he and Webster were settling out of court: "The
parties have resolved their disagreement on non monetary terms."
Now there have been TWO stories written about this case since the Daily Times wrote their original piece, both of which flat out LIED. Do YOU think it's fair that they have implied that Webster and I settled out of Court while Webster was suing me for $9,999.00? Greg Bassett said there was NOTHING on record of any settlement, yet it's in one of their own articles. Does is say non monetary terms, or not?
I believe the Daily Times owes me an apology. Don't you think they should print a correction in their paper and own up to their alleged mistake?
Joe, I really think they need to just "shut down" and go the way of the other newspapers in the country. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you, waiting for an apology
ReplyDeleteYes, they owe you an apology but I wouldn't hold my breath.
ReplyDeleteThey can't issue what they can't spell. They tried to order spell check once, but they screwed that up also.
ReplyDeletethe 1st article states "you" made a statement, that is not "official" record of a court case, the "oficial" record can only come from what is sealed. The rest is for all of us to imply.
ReplyDeleteBassett could care less about the truth. They just print whatever they need to print to fill up the pages. There is no such thing as investigation reporting any more with the Daily Times. They do not pursue stories that are of interest and importance to the public. They only print what is handed to them and reprints from court records. What a shame.
ReplyDeleteJoe, don't sweat it. The Daily Times is not honorable. "For whom the bell tolls..." Can't you hear its death knell?
ReplyDeleteTeh Daily Slime/Rag would have to print another paper everyday to apologize for all the lies in the last days paper. It has been a long long time since they have printed articles that someone actually researched and verified. The editor is content with the way it is.
ReplyDeleteThe Daily Times is a joke. Don't loose a moments sleep over them. Their demise is imminent.
ReplyDeleteWhy worry about the six or seven people that read the Daily Times misinterpreting it?
ReplyDeleteOnward and upward Joe! Let it go!
anonymous 12:24, interesting statement. It was good enough for their first article, are you in damage control mode with a hangover?
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering what the subscription numbers are for the Daily Times in proportion to the population of Salisbury and surrounding areas. Wonder if any one knows.
ReplyDeleteJoe , just consider the source
ReplyDeleteand move on. They do owe you an
apology , but I don't think you will ever get one. We know that the times is screwed-up , and will be out of business very shortly.
I think they are hanging on by a thread , and by their own handy
work. I quit the paper last week
because of it's lack of facts and news. Keep up your excellent work
Joe and you will be rewarded. The
truth will set you free!
Webster is the worst Chief. He needs to go. He should go work for The Daily Times
ReplyDeleteOne of the DT's reporters, Sharaun, would love to make a difference. I tell her all the time she needs to get in touch with Joe and do some reporting for him. I don't think the DT would appreciate that humor.
ReplyDeleteI have said this before, but the misinformation they printed upon the death of my father caused me to cancel my subscription.
ReplyDeleteThey killed him in an ambulance, gave him an autopsy and quoted my mom, who hadn't even talked to them. None of that info was correct. When I spoke to them, they could have cared less.

What 2 stories? I remember the original one posted from last summer, but have seen nothing since.
ReplyDeleteMaybe because I canceled my Daily Slime subscription last summer, I don't know anything about any subsequent articles?
