This Post is designed to let everyone discuss whatever is on their mind. Hot Topics Locally, Nationally, beefs with someone, whatever you so choose. You just get started with whatever is on your mind and watch it fly from there.
I'll start it off with, I think John Robinson, The Fat Man, Mike Dunn, Gary Comegys, Lynn Cathcart, Muir Boda, Barrie Tilghman and Chief Webster are all tied together and are controlling City Government even though most of them are no longer in Office.
Why is it that so many people use such vehement and hateful language with regards to differences of opinion. Instead of focusing on the opinion many comments focus on bashing the person. Why so much viciousness. Can't we have civil debate anymore? It's one thing to say "in my opinion" but to give inacurate information before checking the facts is deliberately disgraceful. Yoe cannot deride someone from being quilty without knowing all the facts. B.H.
ReplyDeleteIreton can't do anything for at least a year because of the way they set up the election dates. We need to hold elections in November so the new budget is the new mayor's budget. I agree Joe, I think Barrie is still running things through the council.
ReplyDeleteBlogs have proven to be a place to vent. Mind you, the Grapevine at the Daily Times has been around for many more years where people bash each other all the time.
ReplyDeleteThis has been going on for hundreds, if not thousands of years. America chose to allow your freedom of speech and quite frankly it keeps some people honest or at least in check.
My open thread is Tipping. A waiter or waitress works for 3.80 per hour and relies on tips to make a living. When a customer comes in, runs them ragged and then leaves no tip or not even 10%, that is wrong. If the service was bad then the manager needs to know and the server will understand what the problem was.
ReplyDeleteBecause Monday is Memorial Day...
ReplyDeleteI'd like to say Thank you to our troops at home and abroad for all the sacrifices you have given and continue to give. As fractured as our Country is in some areas, it is still by far the best country in the World. Lets not forget that. As we are stuffing our faces with hot dogs and hambergers lets not forget, We are the most free (for now)and have the rights as citizens that other countries long for and would love to have. Its only because of those that were willing to sacrifice all....From my family and I, Thank You veterans and those still serving proudly. It is appreciated and not forgotten. We pray for you daily.
How many years has Robinson Clock & Jewelers been operating without a precious metals license?
ReplyDeleteanonymous 9:37, good point. However, my Wife and I always have an issue whenever we go to an All-You-Can-Eat place and she wants to tip 20% to 25%.
ReplyDeleteTo me, that ticks me off. I don't mind doing so in a regular restaurant, asking the waiter or waitress what's good today and then getting a great meal.
We went to the Greene Turtle the other night for dinner. While the waitress was very nice, we had to waive someone else down to get our check. When it finally arrived I had my wallet out ready to pay. The waitress walked away and we didn't see her again for another 10 minutes. Then she had the nerve to ask if I wanted change. HELLO, there's a $100.00 Bill in there, you're damn right I want change. The bill was only $20 some odd dollars.
I also found it strange that I ordered a Club Samich and there was only two slices of bread. Not that I need the extra bread. Why not just call it a samich instead of a club samich?

ReplyDeleteI agree.... this is a pet peev with my wife and I as well. I have to kids of mine that work in the restaurant business. I've seen my daughter get run ragged and then get left hardly anything. I've got family members that are tight on their tips. When we're out with a group, my wife and I always make sure if a "cheap" tip is left, we make up for it. Its not that hard to figure out folks, take your bill look at the first 3 numbers and times it by at least 2..... or be really surprising and do it by 3.... My wife and I have soft hearts I know but she's been known to leave a bigger tip than the total bill. She follows her heart and if she sees a need, she helps.....
For good service that is, If the wait staff doesn't care, I will leave no more than 20 %... Being run ragged because of being swamped is one thing..If they don't care or they just disappear cause they are hanging out with their friends .....well thats a different story now isnt it?
ReplyDeleteYou go to a resteraunt and they ask if you want change the answer is tell them you want 2 $50.s 6 $20,s 4 $10,s and 1 $5 they then realize how stupid they are
ReplyDeleteHow was the food at Greene Turtle? I made the mistake of going there a second time after a bad experience with service. This time the food was gross. All three people at our table each agreed that we couldn't stomach to finish the meal.
ReplyDeleteThis is the one in Salisbury mind you. I've been to the Greene Turtle in O.C. and Frederick and had good experiences. Something must not be right about the people they have running the Salisbury restaurant.

Open thread? What a novel idea.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday. Who's ready for a three day weekend?
The citizens of Salisbury need to make up its mind whether or not they want the town to grow.
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I still own a rental house here (we work in DC) and would like to return one day, but we are unsure as to whether or not Salisbury is:
a) A safe place to raise kids
b) Economically stable
c) Continues to be divided against SU (the source of prosperity)
I’m tired of the Come Here vs. From Here crap and the good ole boy network that still holds you down.
MAKE UP YOUR MIND.
Your either growing or dying
To all veterans everywhere, thank you for what you have done to keep all of us safe and free in the USA. This is the greatest country on earth so this Memorial Day (or any day) thank a vet for keeping it great.
ReplyDelete10:13 AM:
ReplyDeleteAsk again in a year, then two, then three. After the second, the council majority will be out of the hands of the Barrie Tilghman Rubberstamp Brigade.
10:32 AM:
ReplyDeleteThanks!
On the waitress tips.
ReplyDeleteWHY DONT THE OWNERS OF THE RESTAURANT PAY THEM ENOUGH TO LIVE ON.
DO YOU TIP THE MAN FROM THE POWER COMPANY WHEN HE READS THE METER.
HE WAS NICE AND EVEN STOPPED TO TALK A WHILE.
RESTAURANT OWNER PAY YOUR HELP , COME ON $8.00 for a burger and you want me to pay your help. Or i go to outback and spend $40.00 and you want me to pay your help.
i dont think so, the DQ works for me.
Joe,
ReplyDeleteToday we celebrate the 83rd Spring Commencement at Salisbury University! Over 1,400 students are graduating today and embarq on their next journey in life. As an alumnus of SU, I am very grateful for the education and experiences my alma mater has provided me! It is a milestone that I will never forget. Congratulations to all that "made it" and good luck in the career hunt in this tough economy!
Joe,
ReplyDeleteI assume you saw this last night, as did much of the rest of our world, but it just goes to show that some police think that they can get away with certain actions.
Birmingham, AL Police BrutalityBe sure to search for the video-it is truly amazing that any individual, especially a police officer, would beat an unconscious person.
I certainly do hope that we never see things like this in our area
The tipping issue is a great topic to bring up,Anon 5:37
ReplyDeleteWe don't go out to eat very often but when we do visit a full-service restaurant,we always tip the following ways-15% for standard service,it dips to 10% if the service is bad,and for an exceptional waitperson its about 20%.
My husband was a bartender living on tips in his younger days and I just tip well because its the right thing to do. If you can afford to dine out,you can cough up the extra bucks to tip.
For a funny take on tipping and bad tippers in general, watch the movie "Waiting..." LOL
One time my husband and I along with our three children, ages 7, 2, & 1 went out for dinner. The waitress assigned to the section we were sat in made a comment something along the line of "god I don't want to deal with any snot nosed kids". Another waitress volunteered to take our table. She knew us, and knew we always kept the children calm and always cleaned up any mess that may be on the table. I made it a point to tip her as the nasty waitress watched. Our total bill was around $35 bucks I tipped the waitress a $50 and was sure to say thank you for not judging my children based on experience with others. She was so grateful and the other woman was fuming! What a butt head!! I hope the nasty chick made less than $20 that day. Some people are not cut out for certain lines of work!
ReplyDeleteI was a single mom in my late teens waiting tables and I know how hard it is so the way I see it she got what she deserved for being such a judgmental brat!
Any word of what happened on Walston Switch Rd. yesterday afternoon?
ReplyDeleteWhen I drove down, WMDT was there, 2 unmarked state police vehicles and a police van.
Couldn't tell anything.
Prior to this we saw Parsonsburg fire and ems equipment going that direction.
When my husband and I eat out, the tip starts at 20%. Bad service gets you less. This includes LISTENING!
ReplyDeleteWhen we ask for extra napkins or a refill of a drink, don't come back to the table more than once without it. Your tip drops 5% automatically if you do.
Dinner isn't as ordered? You just lost 5% because you wrote the order!
I do not mind at all tipping well for GOOD service, maybe that's why we are greeted like we are where we go to eat. It's obvious they're happy to see us!
Barrie & her stooges are still running the city. Even with a new mayor, these clowns think they know more than anyone.
ReplyDeleteJoe
ReplyDeleteI think you have been spoiled by the club sandwich at Station 7. It has 3 pieces of bread and man does it ROCK! I can't say I really ever liked a club sandwich until I tried theirs. Darnit Joe now Im going to have to go get one lol
If Service is bad then there is a 10% tip. The Roost has the best servers and I know they have been run around to exhaustion and then left a penny tails up. That is a bad luck for a server so it will not be picked up & it is a complete insult. That is ignorant and those people should be sung to like they do the birthday as a cheap tipper.
ReplyDelete10:13. Funny you mention the born here and come here issues. I know that I wouldnt raise kids here. One of my biggest issues regarding the entire shore is the self proclaimed "high quality of life" that everyone brags about. Its perspective, but after living here for 5 yrs the crime and job situation that has always been an issue here seems to contradict that. Not to mention all the talk about how friendly everyone is(incredibly untrue). The shore will always have the network, either you are in it or out. IMHO the area is full of apologists. Crime isnt reported or is covered up to seem minor. Why cant locals be truthful. The truth hurts but denying it isnt going to make the problem go away.
ReplyDeleteOh cool a Jepardy Game, ah "Who's the biggest scumbuckets in the Salisbury area?"
ReplyDeleteSeven Long Years
ReplyDeleteBy, Shannon Barnes
Tightly bound in covers so plenty
there is no chance of entry.
There is dark among the hall,
she waits in worry of shadows so tall.
Her mind is engulfed in fear,
she hears foot steps coming near.
He is coming in...
it is late she should be sleeping,
but the nightmares are once again.
She pressed her eyes peeking thru a slither,
hoping he will not come hither.
She feels his heavy breath against her cheeks
as he pulls back the sheets.
Her eyes still refuse to open,
all words are left unspoken.
Large masculine hands begin to wonder.
Her eyes fill with tears,
she knows the pain he brings.
As he begins to touch her body
she finds the strength...
Not again tonight!
Seven LONG years he has done this.
Seven LONG years of pain and torment.
Seven LONG years of fear and shame.
Seven LONG years ends this day.
Seven LONG years end with a bang.
Under the sheets so plenty,
she has a surprise...
M&P plated on the side.
With the pull of the trigger,
no longer experiences of rigor.
He is exposed as the pervert.
No one else will he ever hurt.
No one else will scream silently
as he steals innocence.
Seven years came to an end.
Not one person stood for her...
Police disillusioned by his charm
No one seeing the pain he caused.
As his body lay in a pool of blood,
she dials the phone one more time.
With that call sirens are heard,
she waits still pointing at his head.
"Ma'am open up, we're here to help."
No longer can she tell who to trust,
Her body trembles as the bangs continue.
Thump thump thump against the door,
finally a crash as they rush to the floor.
Her hands are pried from that .357.
Thoughts rush thru her mind,
she fears they will save him.
A sigh of relief runs thru
As the coroner calls "code blue".
Finally seven long years come to an end.
Sadly it's prison for the next seven to ten.
The victim loses once again.
Now her body is her domain.
As she sits in her cell wide awake
she knows she made no mistakes.
Through iron bars she watches trees
as they sway gently in the breeze.
Knowing one day she can sleep in ease
never again feeling the suicide squeeze.
The purpose of this poem is to bring attention to the long lasting effects sexual abuse has on a person. Therapy is not the sole answer and in many cases makes the victim feel even worse when there is not a strong support system surrounding them. Be aware and care.
Joe I love the open thread. Could you put it in blue like where the classifieds are and just have i ongoing?Great idea but needs to be ongoing. Thanks and keep up the great work!
