"Hi Joe
Just a little new info on happenings within the Simpkins clan in Somerset Co. Guess who's kids ride all over Mt Vernon Rd area on their ATV and mini-bikes? Well, none other than those of the county attorney, Kirk Simpkins. Guess he FORGOT they're off road vehicles and, according to the Maryland DMV, are not allowed on county and/or state roads.
Then there's the county commissioner, Rex. He inherited his mom's house.
From the water, it really stands out - now. Bet he didn't get a permit to take down all those waterfront trees! He had Ronnie Haymaker take them down and grind out the stumps. Probably doesn't know you need special permits on waterfront trees.
Just another local citizen who needs permits, waivers, etc..."
Oh, I wouldn't worry too much about the Simpkins kids riding on the road-- they ride right past Sheriff Bobby Jones' house (that he inherited from his mom) doing about 80mph-- I'm sure he will deal with them. :-)
ReplyDeleteI think before you make comments about someone's children you better make sure they are that person's children. Kirk Simpkins' children are never on the road riding their ATV's or minibikes, as a matter of fact they actually stay one their property and ride them. You must be talking about the children who live at the end of the road who are always riding their ATV's and minibikes on Mt. Vernon Road. Please make sure it's the right children before you go blaming someone for something that isn't true....
ReplyDeleteKids ride these ATV's on the road all over Somerset County. The Sheriff and the State Police just seem to ignore it. I say enforce the law all over the county and get these kids and even some adults off the road immediately.
ReplyDeleteATV's are everywhere down in the Crisfield area. Cops ride right by and look at them and keep on going. The cops probably can't catch them even if they wanted to. Something does need to be done about it. If they are not on the roads they are on private property and the owners have no way to keep them off.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young, it was scooters. When my son was young it was go-carts. Now it is 4-wheelers. I would rather have my child riding a 4-wheeler on a back road than out selling dope on the main road. Come on people, get your priorities straight. These are kids who have a pasttime they enjoy and aren't really harming anyone. Stop taking the fun away from the good kids. I live near Kirk and I want to tell you that he has a child who does drive a 4-wheeler and he is a very polite child. Can't you find something really worth complaining about??
ReplyDeleteNo one really believes that a simpkins would be issued a citation do they? Not only Simpkins but if you are a democrat in this county you can get away with just about anything. If an honest cop actually charged someone with a crime, it would never get prosecuted by our protectionist states attorney Kristy Hickman. Remember how she protected James Henderson and Purnell and others in her law family. What about Sheriff Jones, haven't heard much about that case either. Just a matter of time before that get squashed I suspect.
ReplyDeletewhat a joke. you have a serious gang problem in princess anne. the bloods are thicker than thieves-and you mean to tell me you actually would rather see a police officer in mt vernon rather than catching a drug dealing gang member. you sir are what is wrong with america. mt vernon is a close knit community. i am sure if kirk's kids were a problem someone would have said something to him along time ago. get a grip, let kids do wholesome fun things-thats what memories are made of. what a jack a$$
ReplyDeleteAint nothing like 6th gear on a Banchee.
ReplyDeleteSame old story, don't enforce the law, no big deal if kids are breaking the law, just look the other way. What kind of lesson is that teaching them. Why have laws if we don't enforce them? Why only enforce them on a few and not all? If we don't need the law, get rid of it so every law abiding citizen can ride an ATV on the road if they want to.
ReplyDeleteNo one likes a tattle-tale!
ReplyDelete10:14 - it's people like you that come to the defense of law breakers when it's someone you know. How do you possible justify breaking the law? What about the kids safety? ATV's were not made to be driven on hard surfaces. Face the facts, it's dangerous and gets on other peoples nerves. The police should put a stop to it everywhere. I'm more disturbed by the ATV's then I am the bloods. I've never seen a blood but I've seen 100's of ATV's breaking the law.
ReplyDeletewe have a group down in Oriole that fly up and down the road all the time. What I am worried about is animals or small children playing that might get killed in the process. These kids on these 4 wheelers are popping wheelies and going so fast and wreckless. Someone or themselves are gonna get killed. So many young kids have been killed from these things. They need designated areas to ride.
ReplyDeleteI live in MT. Vernon and I know for a fact that Kirk Simpkins kids are not the ones riding on the road. It is the kids at the corner of Mt. Vernon rd and Pruitt Lane. They ride all hours of the night and on all roads. Dont blame the wrong kids. Even if Rex did have trees removed its no different than Paul Thorton building things without permits. He does it all the time and nothing is said. You need to make sure you have the story straight before blame good people.
ReplyDeleteIts not only the kids at the corner of Pruitt Lane there also people who rent a house from Paul Thorton on Hop Fisher Lane that have a dirty bike that ride all day long up and down the road. The bike has no mufflers so its very annoying to listen to all day. We have lived here for 30 years and have never had this problem. If it was my kids they would have the police come and fine them.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the big deal about inheriting family homes after the loved one is gone. Plus Bobby Jones bought the house he lives in from Harvey Hastings many years ago.
ReplyDeleteThe main issue is that people dont have a problem with kids riding them. Its the fact that if 1 of them gets killed or hurts someone else who will be responsible. The parent would want to blame the person who hit them when in reality its the child that is in the wrong.
ReplyDeleteDo I need a permit to cut my grass? It seems like people are worried about cutting trees down when there are people are building homes in wetland areas and have no permits posted. If I wanted to build something than I would have to go to Zoning before I could even start. There are people who start without permits and never get permits unless an issue is brought up. The same person gets away with it all through town.
ReplyDeleteIf the law is not going to be enforced equally, abolish the law. We have to many laws on the books now. I agree that no one should be on the road or trespass on private land with dirt bikes and ATVs. Very few people own enough property to justify owning ATVs. If you own 2 acres and own a ATV you will probably have to break the law in order to ride it. They are not toys and should only be used for legitimate purposes by responsible adults, not kids.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Haymaker is a licensed business. If he didn't know he needed permits, maybe he should be fined as well as Simpkins.
ReplyDeleteHey 10:14, if the bloods gang is so bad in Princess Anne, why are there always 4 or 5 state troopers sitting in Westover just waiting for speeders? I guess revenue generation is more important to O'Malley then wiping out gangs. Frankly it is more important to get kids of the road than it is to write speeding tickets.
ReplyDeleteThe issue of enforcing all laws always lies in wanting them to applied somone else. My bet the person upset about the troopers in Westover has gotten a few tickets. Just wait until they put out the speed camaras in the work zones!!
ReplyDeleteSomeone must not be able to get permits in the county.
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to check the permits on Paul Thortons cottage on Pine Beach Rd in Mt Vernon since rex had to have permits to cut trees down. How can Paul build a cottage thats supposed to be 1 story when it has a 2nd floor balcony. Im sure Haymaker isnt going to put his business in jeopardy. And as for Kirks kids they are good kids who dont bother anyone. They are not the ones that bother people with the ATVs.
ReplyDeletehaha, I live in Mt Vernon ...what a moron...wrong kids. try the first house on the right on Pruitt Lane as the location of the mini bikes and 4-wheelers. they are not even the same ethnic background (not that that has to do with anything)..........
ReplyDeleteRe: Kirk kids not on road
ReplyDeleteRenshaw Rd and Steamboat Warf Rd are public Rds. Their dogs even follow the ATV's
Come on people! Can we start talking about some real issues on here? Sounds like you really don't have a right to complain if that's all the issue is; someone riding by your house on a 4-wheeler. There are people in Princess Anne and Pocomoke who worry about walking down the street without being shot. Give up on the petty stuff and leave the kids alone and let the kids have fun. I'm sure you did! And by the way if that is all I had to worry about my son doing I would be one happy parent. Mt. Vernon is a nice place to live and this has been going on for years. And I mean really, is it that big of a deal what Paul Thornton is doing? Is it that big of a deal or are you just putting your nose where it doesn't belong. I was born and raised in Mt. Vernon and to me there is no better place on earth. If this is all you can come up with, get a hobby!
