President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, & Others Owe 1.2 Million Tea Party Patriots Apology

The American People Deserve Better From Their Elected Representatives and Are Beginning to Demand It

Among the political class it has apparently become acceptable, and even fashionable, for American politicians from the President on down to mock the citizens they represent.  In a development that can only further denigrate the discourse necessary to any effective democracy, politicians and the "serious" news media are now mocking citizens regularly and with impunity.  Supported by mainstream journalists on MSNBC and CNNwho themselves use sexual slurs on national television to mock and attack the same citizens, the politicians openly demonstrate their feelings of superiority in regard to those they were elected to represent.  They now candidly express their disdain for a significant portion of the American population without threat of reprisal by the mainstream media.

On the morning of the April 15th Tea Parties, the American public was informed on national news by one of the President's economic advisers, Jared Bernstein, that the President was "unaware" of the tea parties taking place in over 850 cities across the nation.  On April 29th, the President informed a town hall meeting in St. Louis that he has now become aware of the tea parties, but only from "certain news channels on which I'm not very popular."  He referred to the one million plus Patriots who came out in legitimate and constitutionally protected demonstrations of free speech on April 15th as "folks waving tea bags around..."  While he collects royalties (last year about $2.6 million) from his books, The Audacity of Hope and Dreams From My Father, the President has the audacity to imply that we the people have nothing legitimate to say about high taxes, wasteful spending and corporate bailouts.  The President also seems to believe that it is appropriate to mock millions of Americans who are expressing their opinions publicly in a peaceful manner.  "Perhaps he feels that by mocking the tea parties and the patriots who attend them, that he can marginalize them.  But we know that real patriots cannot be marginalized, and that they will continue to make their voices heard in ever greater numbers," says Chris Lewis, Salisbury Tea Party Coordinator and Tea Party Patriots National Leadership Council Member.

This sort of condescending approach to the grassroots is a hallmark of politicians all across this land.  We, the grassroots are mocked by the President as "folks waving tea bags around."  Discussion of our legitimate complaints and concerns is avoided through the use of derogatory and condescending rhetoric.  We've heard similar rhetoric from the Speaker Nancy Pelosi who says the tea parties are an "Astroturf initiative," and "contrived events backed by those who like tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans."   Rep. Jan Schakowsky (IL), called people who attended the Tea Parties "despicable" and "shameful," "corporate interests" and said the events were created by "Republican lobbyists and politicians".  At every level, the President and the majority of politicians at a national level refuse to discuss the issues head on, and refuse to acknowledge the fact that a huge, non-partisan, grassroots movement has coalesced around limited government, fiscal responsibility and lower taxes.  As politicians, they are simply interested in taking and spending more and more of our money, and in leaving our children with the burdens of their excess.  And they will mock, deride and oppose anyone who objects to what they are doing.

At this time, the President, and all other politicians who demeaned the protestors, Speaker Pelosi (CA), and Rep. Schakowsky (IL) included, owe 1.2 million patriots an apology.  If our politicians are truly interested in dialogue with the people they claim to represent, such a dialogue must begin with respect for the citizens of this country.  That show of respect will begin when the politicians acknowledge that mocking and demeaning well-intentioned, peaceful Tea Party Patriots who love their country is the height of arrogance, and a terrible mistake.  The American people deserve better from their elected representatives, and are beginning to demand it.

  1. as a council member, I was not allowed to mention the affect and help from sbynews on the national letter as we all had to agree with the wording. But I can mention that here. Thanks Joe.

  2. Joe , all I can say is"consider
the source" , our country has a dictator , not a president.
Just remember this " easy come,

  3. So NONE of you mocked the president in your tea parties? None of the anti-Obama signs were offensive? None of you call in to Limbaugh's show and rip on liberals? You all need to get the same thick skin you demand of our politicians.

  4. How about the Tea Baggers apologize for not protesting eight years of Bush spending to show us that they're really not partisan?

    ReplyDelete
  5. That apology should be given right after the 100 million or so of us who were subjected to the previous administration's attitude of being either "with us or with the terrorists" is made.

  6. people seriously believe yet another lie from hussein that he was "unaware" of the tea parties!

he must of been busy, uh-um-er um uh,uh uh, um, writing his Americans are arrogant speech.

  7. I agree, but none of them has the spine to apologize. Let's not forget the "Teabaggers" moniker laughingly thrown around, either.

  12. 5:03 the big difference is that they work for US. Not the other way around. And yes the last administration could stand to make a few apologies as well. And 6:18 in about a year to 18 months when the chickens of spending all of this money we don't have come home to roost and the economy collapses all the way - you will come to realize that it is YOU and people like you who are in fact the idiots! I hope you folks are canning your vegetables this summer.

  13. I always laugh at the mental "giants" on here that are unable to decouple themselves from the right versus left paradigm. Hey clueless 507 and 529, guess what, most of the tea partiers were unhappy with a lot of what Bush did, now we are even more upset by what Obama is doing. It's people like you that are part of the bigger problem. You are too ignorant to see that the policies Barack Hussein Obama is enacting are only prolonging this economic downturn. It is people just like you that ended up at the Nuremburg Trials and said, "we were only following orders. We didn't know what was really happening" There is none so blind as those that REFUSE to see.

  14. The tea parties were totally inconsequential. Poor attendance and incoherent messages... And the complaints about taxes right after a big middle class tax cut? What was all that about?

If anything the tea party organizers should apologize for putting on such a bad show. And Fox News and Rush shouldn't be let off the hook for this one either.

  15. It's easy to criticize as you remain anonymous, but really the "teabagging" jokes are dumb. 6:18pm, 60 million voted for McCain and deserve an apology for all the spending, it's not as easy as apologizing for slavery...when most Americans living in the present have never owned slaves...or apologizing for freeing Europe from Nazis in WWII or stopping Japan's imperial army from crushing Asia by saying we are just "arrogant." AS for the spending protests during Bush's 8 years...most conservatives argued against the spending and the earmarks which is why the house was cleaned out and Republicans took a bashing in 2006, how easily everyone forgets, because Democrats on welfare only go to the polls for Obama, not just for regular Democrats, duh!!!

  16. So typical republican "I don't want to pay taxes" might help someone who doesn't deserve it. What happened to help your fellow man?

  17. 618 and 800 This is too easy, first 618

big middle class tax cut? What planet are you on? You are another preprogrammed ZomBot who can listen and parrot MSNBC but is unable to think for him or her self. The reality of the BIG MIDDLE CLASS TAX CUT follow...it comes out to be 13 dollars a week or 800 a year, and that's for two years. Your messiah's cap and trade plan is going to cost the average American family 1800 dollars a year. Can you do that math without a calculator? When will people like you wake up do the research and see what is happening! Can't you see this swine /H1N1 flu crap is media enhanced to run cover for the current adminstration? How many people have died in the us in the past 24 hours? Ok, now how many have died from the flu? You Obamatrons, please, I am begging you to wake UP!

800 now for you...how much of your pay expressed in a percentage are you willing to give up in taxes? Please give me a number, then we'll talk.

  18. How do Republicans claim to back the war but want to reduce the money available to fight it?

With all due respect, the working class is a little tired of "helping our fellow man" when that metaphorical "fellow man" refuses to help himself.

  20. how come there were no "tea party's"when bush ran the deficit up so high and started the bailouts, where were all of you then?

    ReplyDelete
  21. "most conservatives argued against the spending and the earmarks which is why the house was cleaned out and Republicans took a bashing in 2006"I'm not sure I've ever seen more blatant revisionist history in all my life. MOST Republicans toed the party line for 8 years, and now they're reaping what they sowed. Trying to make it seem like the housecleaning came from inside the party is laughable AT BEST.

The Republican party is in shambles right now, and it only continues to drift into more and more extremist territory. Moderate Republicans are being labeled RINO's, the tea parties smack of racism and fear, and (lest you forget) the Republican nominee for V.P. turned McCain's later campaign stops into xenophobic hate fests which played on people's racism, and (on occasion) smacked of Nazi rallies. And you wonder why the party is where it is today?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Everyone, please listen. This is NOT a partisan issue. BOTH parties are screwing up.

This is an ECONOMIC issue. There is no way you could give me your money, let me take 40% off the top, give you back the rest in whatever form of goods or services and have you better off that you were before.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 5:28 " This is NOT a partisan issue."

Sorry. Rush and Fox News made it blatantly partisan. The GOP is going to continue to screw itself into the ground until these clowns are put to pasture. They are the biggest impediment to the recovery of the GOP and any effort to put out a sensible political message that will attract "real" American voters...

5:28 "BOTH parties are screwing up."

I don't see it that way. I see a multitude of emergencies that needs attention. I see a new Democratic president doing his best to make things better for the average American. There's no evidence that he's screwing up. You need to wait a year or two before you can make that claim with any air of credibility.

Blaming the Dems for taking hard measures is like blaming your dentist for mouth pain after utterly neglecting your teeth.

Judging Obama's efforts as failures after only 100 days is like judging a case after listening to opening arguments.

  24. Bush spending???How about triple & quadruple that in less than a hundred days. Sweet momma. Libs are asking for apologies all over the place. How about one to Miss Calipornia???
At least bush had a war to pay for.
And typically, the people tell what they think after 100 days, NOT the other way around.
    I want an APOLOGY!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Both Parties are the problem. The Democrats want government to control everythting and the Republicans are almost as bad. We need to stand up and take back our government. There comes a time in everyones life when they say enough is enough. Mpost Americans have reached that point and the Tea Parties are an example of that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. They owe the apology to the billions of people who gave their LIVES defending our county and constitution against strong arming governments and over bearing taxes.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 8:15 "I want an APOLOGY!"

For what?? For trying to save your a$$? Really... What do you want an apologiy for? And who do you want to issue this apology?

Did Bush offer anyone an apology? No. He was summarily dismissed to the dustbin of history as the worst president ever. And just imagine what would be happening now if McCain was now President! ... and YOU want an apology??? Ridiculous.

  28. Right now, We are 11 TRILLION dollars in debt. That's $11,242,439,612,051.50 The estimated population of the United States is 306,103,905, so each citizen's share of this debt is $36,727.53.

This is BEFORE the promised Trillions Obama has vowed to lay on top of it.
Stop the madness and stop trying to make this about right against left. It's about the money, stupid.
