Optimist Girls Softball Opening Day Ceremony

A big thanks to Mayor Jim Ireton for attending the Optimist girls softball opening day ceremony and throwing out the first ball. Mr. Ireton even helped out in a little pre-game practice.

  2. After that appointment of the acting chief in the SFD he will have to step it up a bit.

  3. You have to be kidding me with that comment. It looks good that a Mayor is out there supporting the girls softball teams. I am glad to have know there is atleast one good politician that supports the girls!! And yes I know there are more than one but hey atleast he was trying!! Good Job Mayor of Salisbury out there talking and throwing some balls before the game with The Pittsville Panthers!! Way to go Pittsville Nice Try!! You will get them next time! That was a close one!!

  4. I think it was great to see him out there supporting our community! I didn't see anyone else from "the city" there!

  6. One of the things our Mayor is supposed to be doing is creating good will for the city. Go Jim! And, thank you. As far as the SFD interim appointment - big disappointment. He should look at qualifications before making an apointment like that. If he had appointed someone who wasn't part of the ongoing problem Salisbury might have been able to get an honest answer about all of this new equipment SFD wants and maybe scale it back.

  7. Go Jim!
I'm confident Jim will win people over--there is a steep learning curve when you become mayor, and he will make some mistakes. the key thing is that he really does have Salisbury's best interest at heart, and he will listen to your concerns. I don't know much about the fire chief thing, but I know that he will listen to the guys. It is only an "acting" chief, let's see what we can do for the real deal.

  9. Softball? Come on Jim! Show us you can chuck it overhand!

  10. If you would look at his arm he did chuck it over hand!! look at the photo before you comment!! Just because he was throwing it to the softball girls doesn't mean a thing!! And by the way he is doing is job!! He is out in the community doing all kinds of community things after all if he is not out there doing things then he has no clue what goes on!! Sitting in a room with people telling him does nothing going out there is what is the right thing to do!! Way to go Mayor!!

  11. Barrie Tilghman would listen to your concerns doesn't mean she would act on them, same with Jim Ireton. He knows how the firefighters feel, if he was listening to them he would have heard how they felt about the SFD leadership. Listening and hearing are not the same. Maybe Jim needs to learn to hear better.

  12. I said it before and i will say it Gin. Jim is a good man but he does not have the gonads to make the big decisions that a leader has to make. He needs to fire Webster. Didn't Tilghman fire Dykes who was a leader and good policeman.
