We have had multiple requests from our readers wanting to see the Fruitland Budget. Please follow this link and it should take you right to the page you're interested in.
How many employees in the water and sewer department and what are they paid? Finance department less than $80,000 with all those heads in there? And why are we still paying front foot assessment? Didn't the county pay off the old loans in order to extend water and sewer lines outside the town limits? Something is wrong here!
I agree with 6:52. When we connected to water & sewer in Fruitland I was told front foot assessment would end after 20 years of paying, it has now been 25 years. When I questioned it, I was informed that fee is indefinite now.
You're right, 7:27. There are now 4 clerks and a supervisor in the finance dept- but there's only $78,950 in the budget for them--AND.. it's down from $114,300 in the last budget, even though they've been hiring! What are they going to do- fire some of them? Something looks very fishy here. How are these people being paid? Higher sewer/water rates??
The Utilities budget isn't like the others- the others show the upcoming year, this year and last year's numbers, but the Utilities budget only has the new year's numbers (with the new fees). I wonder why? Maybe the last 2 years' numbers show something they don't want us to see. Like major increases in some categories. The new salaries/benefits for utilities amount to over $769,000-- I wonder what they were the past 2 years?
The taxes in Fruitland are ridiculous! Residents get NOTHING for their money... unless you count the stupid traffic circle or more cops giving seatbelt tickets, or a new town hall. It's an absolute waste! They collect more money just to spend more money, with nothing to show for the effort except financially strapped citizens. Higher water and sewer rates are ABSURD! All new infrastructure is paid for by developers, PLUS each individual lot must pay a HUGE impact fee to connect. All this is in addition to the usage and frontage fees! What are the city's expenses?? To maintain the system? How 'bout using the millions earmarked for the unneccessary town hall for that? Then, we can purchase an affordable double wide to park next to the existing town hall to accommodate all the unneccesary employees of the town and their take home cars! Bottom line - we've been ripped off!
Yikes:
ReplyDeleteThe sewer and water "impact fee" is even higher than in Salisbury, but the property tax rate is somewhat lower.

ReplyDeleteThere's been at least 2 or 3 new employees hired in finance over the past year.. I wonder why? Only $80,000 budgeted to pay all those people?
