Well that was short. There was so much more to his life that could be added. He was a fantastic baseball player. He was a great friend, son, and big brother. He loved his friends. He was always there for everyone. He will be missed forever.
anonymous 9:07, and that is what a Blog is all about. YOU and everyone else will now have the chance to share your personal knowledge and experiences with Eric. I did not know Eric but our hearts go out to this Family as well as our prayers.
Eric was crossing the road from Hardees to Salisbury Univ, and was hit and killed by a car. It was not the drivers fault. Regardless, Eric touched many lives, and will be missed.
Eric Parkinson was killed Sunday night in a traffic accident on Route 13 across from Salisbury University. The light was green, and Eric stepped in front of a vehicle. It is unclear whether or not he was preoccupied on his cell phone at the time.
Eric graduated from Delmar High School in 2007 (where he was one of the best baseball players in the schools history). He was attending WorWic Community College. He wanted to be a college math teacher.
Eric is survived by his parents, an older brother, and a younger sister.
Let's not forget he was highly intoxicated. A warning to others.
We all think, me included, that nothing like this will ever happen to us. When we are young, we feel indestuctible and can be careless. When we add alcohol to the mix, our chances of this happening increase dramatically.
Please pray for his soul, please pray for the family and friends who lost someone special.
I really believe that some things are better left unsaid at certain moments. Mardela has just proven my point. If you know that information from a private source it certainly should not be shared here. I will pray for your soul as well.
ERIC, wow cant believe your gone,,i onlu new ya about a year now! i cant believe what happened ,it dont make any sense!you were a great guy, wish ya coulda been around longer!
It is always sad to lose someone. It is harder when it is a young person and in such a tragic way no matter how or why. My prayers are with Eric, his family and also the driver who now has to live with this for the rest of thier lives. Bless you all.
Even though the timing may seem harsh, people need to know just how vulnerable any of us are when alcohol is involved. His parents lives have been shattered no matter what the cause.
Eric was one of the friendliest and most light-hearted guys I have met in my life. He was out-going and always willing to help his friends no matter the situation, a true friend you could rely on. He knew the true meaning of living life, even though this may have gotten him into trouble at times, it is a valuable lesson to cherish from his life. Eric Parkinson was a great guy, with some of the worst luck imaginable. To the other people who are commenting on the alcohol factor in this horrendous situation, let it rest…the loss of a cherished life is far too significant to mingle with the lessons of the ill effects of drinking. My prayers go out to his family, his parents in particular, may God be with you.
Eric Parkinson, you are a great guy, and I will never forget you! I miss you man!
I didn't know Eric but I can say this "Only the Good Die Young". God has a plan for us all and Eric's time has come. God now a new angel. Eric is watching over everyone he knows and loves. I know this will be a stuggle for his friends and family but remember what good he brought to you and what memories you have of him. As I can see (From the posting anad the news articles) he was a great "Young Man". My prayers go to everyone for this sad lost but stay strong and live for Eric.
I have not seen Eric since High School and i can't believe he is gone he had such big dreams and he was a nice helpful person. I will never forget his smile. My prayers are with his family.
Maybe an obit would be an innaprorpriate place to mention the involvement of alcohol, but the blog is exactly where that info should come out. The mmain thing the blog is good for is to keep us informed and give us useful stuff. Sorry about this young man. Hopefully something good will come out of it...drinking makes us stupid.
Eric was such a sweet heart.Ive never been able to talk to anyone like him. We used to sit up and talk for hours or just ride around in the middle of the night for as long as we could stay awake. He was such a great friend. He wouldnt judge any one so how about you all do the same for him. I cant believe the stuff people are bringing up. No one needs to know if he was drunk. Your not perfect. You do stupid things too. He's gone now and thats not nessecary to even talk about. No one deserves to die because they've been drinking. You have no idea what was going on in his life. How would you feel if that was one of your friends.. R.I.P. Eric. Youll always be in my heart.
DELMAR -- Eric Steven Parkinson, 20, of Delmar went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Eric was a 2007 graduate of Delmar High School, with a distinguished diploma. Other academic achievements include the United States Presidential Achievement Award, All American Scholar, United States Achievement Academy and National Honor Roll Achievement. He was also nominated and received the Optimist Club and National Youth Leaders Conference held in Washington. He attended Wor-Wic Community College for two years, where he majored in prelaw and college level math instruction. He was a member of Melson's United Methodist Church in Delmar.
Baseball was his passion in life. He played first base from Coach Pitch through Senior League with the Delmar Little League. He was the first baseman for the Delmar High School varsity team. His dream was to someday play professional baseball. Eric also was on the Delmar varsity basketball team and cross country team.
He is survived by his parents, Dennis J. Parkinson Sr. and Ronda Parkinson; brother, D.J. Parkinson; sister, Desirae Parkinson, all of Delmar; grandparents, Mary Howard and Bill Jones of Delmar and Geneva Parkinson of Federalsburg; aunts and uncles, Donna and Raymond Abbott, Phil Parkinson, Robin and Van Taylor, Ronnie and Barbara Parkinson, and Jay and Marie Parkinson; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Donald Parkinson, who passed away in January 1994.
Eric loved his family and was very close with brother, D.J., and sister, Desirae. They would call on each other often and knew the other was there. He was fun-loving, free-spirited and energetic and lived his life with zeal and to the fullest, and we are very proud to be his parents and will miss him dearly always.
Eric was blessed with many friends. We couldn't keep up with them all. He was a loyal friend and would be there in a second for any of them that needed him. Among some of the closest are John Speake, Bryan Wescott, David Rheinfeld, Josh Speake, Megan Speake and Bethany Kleiser.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Revs. J. Harvey Dixon and Rick Parrott will officiate. Interment will be in Melson's United Methodist Church Cemetery in Delmar.
Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home PA, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, Md. 21804.
While a person could not imagine what the family and friends are going through and sympathy goes out to them, is this the same "loyal, nice, friendly, young man" who was listed in the papers last month for burglary?
4:05pm, are you perfect? did you never do something stupid that you regretted after the fact? THEN SHUT UP!
Eric was not perfect. He would be the first to admit his mistakes, and own up to them. Perhaps you can learn a thing or two from this loyal, nice, friendly, young man!
Just simply pointing out that he wasn't perfect as everyone is being lead to believe. Yes we all make mistakes, but we don't all make mistakes that involve stealing from people that make an honest living and work hard for their family. It reminds me of the Salisbury Lacrosse boys from last year that had the same high aspirations and then went on a vandalizing spree. Again, I feel bad for his family, but stop acting like he was the perfect upstanding citizen.
Hey 4:05.... Do you think for one second that anything he might have done makes those who are grieving his loss love or miss him any less? Step off moron...take a lesson in manners. Oh, and while you're at it, learn what to say and when to say it.
5:30pm, I don't recall anyone saying he was perfect. The words "loyal, nice, and friendly" were the words YOU brought up, and Eric was definitely all three. Stop acting like such a miserable jerk, and let people grieve however they wish.
5:30pm I did not see 'perfect' in anyone's comments except yours!! I hope to God that you never have to experience what the Parkinson family is going through. I think the best thing that you could do is crawl back under that rock you came from.
i would just like everybody know that it was finally determined that eric was not intoxicated. as a friend of his it disgusts me when people say such things. yea. he made a stupid choice to walk into traffic. guess he thought he could make it or something. we'll never know. but alcohol had absolutely no place in that accident. thanks and god bless the parkinsons
anonymous 2:25, that's absolutely untrue. He called his brother because he was allegedly too drunk to drive, pulled over his car and was waiting for hi to pick him up. He stepped out into the road to cross the street and never5 looked.
I graduated with Eric, I remember he was a very friendly person. Once he even came to my house with a friend of mine and we spoke of our aspirations after college. I understand that this website gives people the oppurtunity to comment on what has happened, and though beneficial for some to express their sorrow, others should not speak at all. Just because you can doesnt mean you should if it is intended to slander and thus hurt those who are mourning. Eric was human, and a young man at that. All is forgiven in the eyes of God for those who have repented.
Joe, Eric didn't even have his car there!! so please get your facts straight. He was not driving. Yes, he called his brother to come get him, and unfortunately was not paying attention to crossing the road.
By the way, his funeral today was overflowing. They had to open up more rooms to accomodate all the people. It was a beautiful service.
Eric man we had out ups and down's, but we figured them out each time. Playing baseball together the week before the lord took you was fun, I'll miss you man. We didn't hang out much, but I regret that now. The lord has a plan for everyone, and your his new angel in heaven. I just want everyone who thinks alcohol is a factor it wasn't. Him and some girl were fighting and he got out of the car and called his brother to come get him from Pat's Pizzeria. His brother saw everything happen, because he was right there. SO EVERYONE WHO THINKS ALCOHOL IS A FACTOR THINK AGAIN, BECAUSE ITS NOT ALWAYS THE PROBLEM. Eric man I'll miss you, and a lot of people will, you were a great guy, with a smile who made anyone's day. R.I.P. Eric Steven Parkinson!!! "All The Above" and "The Good Die Young"
I just love how some people comment on things that they are totally ignorant to what really happened. The fact of the matter is a young, caring, loving guy is not here with us anymore. We all need to take a lesson on compassion and learn to be a little more empathetic to the people that are trying to cope with the loss of such a great young person.
Oh Eric Parkinson how deeply we miss you!! I wish you were here with us today and everyday that follows!!! We LOVE you man and we our lost in our tears for you. This to will be a time for myself to comment on some of the comments on this blog, Eric had a huge future and lifetime of opportunities ahead of him that despite the fact of what happened in the past, it should stay in the past. Why is it that folks wait til a person has passed away to bash them. Eric had a huge heart and would do for anyone in the world. In the years that I have known him and his family he's always been respectful, full of energy, the biggest smile in the world, and the biggest muscles. I wish to say to the people who have no sense of compassion, I really hope you never have a teenager that makes a mistake or loses their life. No one has the answers to all that happened that late May 24, 2009 night, but here's one thing for sure, no matter what you have done in your life, good or bad, no one deserves to lose their life so tragically and unexpectedly. To these no it alls, I really pray for you and hope to God nothing like this ever occurs in your lifetime and if it should maybe you wouldn't be so quickly to judge Eric. To all of us in the family, especially immediate family my thoughts, prayers, and love is here for you each and every minute of every day. We LOve you Eric Parkinson and you will be greatly missed and we will see you again in heaven, our little angel, rest in peace. ALL THE ABOVE MAN that song fit you so perfect!!!! Love you!!!
you are missed terribly!! i love you and your always on my mind, and to those who are commenting and yet dont even know him....please back off!!!! its not ur place to say any of these things when u have no idea wat ur talking about and are just mAINLY pulling things out of your ass.!!! RIP eric!
The loss of young life is so sad, no matter the circumstances. Our prayers to his family.

The Hispanic lady that hit him had no drivers license or insurance according to State Police.
