Suspects Arrested Thursday, April 30, 2009- Pick Pocketer Apparently Tried Theft First, But Wasn’t Good at That Either
New Castle County- State Police detectives have implicated two subjects in what turned out to be a string of robberies on April 29th and April 30th. Authorities have arrested Casey Joyner, 20, of East 30th Street in Wilmington, and Jerrell A. Cook, of West 36th Street in Wilmington, for their role in these incidents.
DSP provided two news releases yesterday in regards to two north Wilmington robbery cases and by the end of the day, two more incidents were linked by detectives. The third and fourth incidents were at the following locations: 1- Wawa, April 29th, 2:22 a.m., 4000 North DuPont Highway in New Castle and 2- Wawa, April 30th, 10:38 a.m., 1515 North DuPont Highway. Both of these incidents involved purse snatchings and the suspects were successful.
In the most recent case on the 30th, a witness followed the suspects as they fled the scene and obtained their tag number. This information was turned over to detectives who followed up on the lead. Last evening, Troopers responded to a residence along the 100 block of West 36th Street where they contacted and apprehended Cook and Joyner. Through their diligence and hard work, investigators learned that Joyner was the actual suspect committing the thefts while Cook was the get-away-driver.
Both suspects were charged with identical offenses: Attempted Robbery (felony), three counts of Conspiracy (felony), Attempted Theft (misdemeanor), Conspiracy (misdemeanor) and two counts of Robbery (felony).
Bail for Mr. Cook and Mr. Joyner was set at $48,000.00 secured a piece and they were both committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute.
