CIA Says Pelosi Was Briefed On Use Of 'Enhanced Interrogations'

By Paul Kane
Intelligence officials released documents this evening saying that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was briefed in September 2002 about the use of harsh interrogation tactics against al-Qaeda prisoners, seemingly contradicting her repeated statements over the past 18 months that she was never told that these techniques were actually being used.
In a 10-page memo outlining an almost seven-year history of classified briefings, intelligence officials said that Pelosi and then-Rep. Porter Goss (R-Fla.) were the first two members of Congress ever briefed on the interrogation tactics. Then the ranking member and chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, respectively, Pelosi and Goss were briefed Sept. 4, 2002, one week before the first anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

  1. Politicians never tell the truth, even when it's right in front of them. Why is this even a story, we don't expect any less of Pelosi.

  2. Another example of "cherry picking" the facts. The Bush Administration was involved in numerous criminal activities. They held "briefings" with both Democrats and Republicans giving very vague and select information while swearing all involved to secrecy under penalty of law. Because one was in attendance at these limited briefing does not make them an accessory.

  3. Is anyone else bothered by the fact that Republicans are getting bent out of shape about Pelosi's supposed hypocrisy rather than the crimes committed by the Bush Admin in OUR NAME?

I know, I know - look forward, not backward...

  4. From the article: "As this document shows, the Speaker was briefed only once, in September 2002. The briefers described these techniques, said they were legal, but said that waterboarding had not yet been used," said Brendan Daly, Pelosi's spokesman.

When waterboarding had been used 35 days prior to that date. So, the Bush administration lied to Pelosi, sugar coated their briefing, and now the Republicans want to blame Pelosi?

The spin is making my head hurt.

  6. yes, this spin is making my head hurt, now the liberals are spouting that GWBush and The CIA are the same thing, when the CIA went against the administration...Pelosi is a liar, plain and simple...she was briefed and whether she was paying attention or not is her own problem.
