Before & After

I don't know about you but I snagged up a red brick, a white brick and one glass block for keepsake.

  1. I am amazed that Salisbury has historical society's to tell you what color you can paint your building, but they cannot keep this historic landmark from being torn down???

  2. Great point, Anon. 9:16. I'm all for historic asset protection laws, and clearly they failed us here. That said, let's see something good done on this site. This new building should fill the same footprint as the old one, and be significantly taller. There should be retail at the ground floor, and whatever the market determines is feasible above. Urban design aside, this could also be a landmark building for downtown... inspire a renaissance (which we desperately need). That said... I fear we'll get something much less satisfying.

Maybe the Historic Commission will require that a new building must look the same as the old one and have the same materials -- now, that's real historic horse____.

  4. Don't get your hopes up. You have lived here long enough to know that there will be a Rite-Aid or Happy Harry's, or some other national chain store, if anything, in the space.

Or it will be an empty lot, or new empty building, for decades to come.
