Want A New Place To Go For Lunch Today

Anthony's has finally opened for business on the Downtown Plaza. Stop in and support a local business. They're located at 212 Main Street and their number is 410-677-DELI. Tell them Salisbury News sent you.

  1. Best sandwich I had in a long time! Great enviornment, great food, amazing service and reasonably priced! I am very excited about having a practical choice for lunch so close to my office, and it has added some life back to the plaza! Well, the shoe sale has helped with that too!

  2. If they are the same owners as Ocean City's, then Sby is in for a treat!!! Their breakfast sandwiches are out of this world!!!

  5. if there was a place to park, i'd go for lunch. i wish them the best, but don't hold your breath that they'll make it - the guy who owned the last deli in there is working retail now in the mall.

i have always thought the problem is parking - the businesses can't survive on local employees alone, and the only other people around for lunch are moms. it's a pain to park, load the kids, enter the plaza, take the stroller on the elevator for one floor, pick up lunch, and go back. it's not like there is even decent seating or a park to walk to or anything nice. i was down there with my kid looking at flowers at parker place last week, and not only was there nothing else to do down there, but in the space of 15 minutes i had a guy on a bike almost knock me over, a guy wander by swearing at everyone, and a guy who hacked up a ball of phlem and spit it out so close to me he hit my shoe. it's disgusting down there.

same reason city bistro closed. crappy environment, nothing else there, and no parking.

guys, give up on the stupid plaza, already! it was poorly designed to start with, the rents are inflated beyond repair, it's full of trash, homeless people, and drug dealers. tear it down and make a green space.

  7. Give Al a break - he had horrible surroundings to deal with and a location that was dirty way before he got there. With the way businesses come and go in this town he was smart not to sink any extra money into that place. Here's hoping this venture will be good for he and his family!

  8. kStar, you must be a friend of al's or have a strong stomach for nasty cause that place was the pitts and even if it was dirty when he got there, why wouldn't he clean it up???? probably more of the same comming at his new place clean and fresh going dirty and nasty. By the way what happened at his old spot that he closed?????

  9. OK, I happened to be away for several hours today and quite frankly several of the comments I'm seeing here would have never made it through.

For starters, there's absolutely NO WAY the Health Department would have allowed ANY establishment like this to open if it wasn't clean. They just swung their doors today and the place is immaculate. Just look at the pictures and that becomes very evident.

The Fat Man has had a field day putting up stupid comments like the ones above but that has now ended. I'm sorry so many of them went up Folks. Use your head and look around. Don't let one jackass destroy this new opening.

Unless you want to be stupid and fall for BS like this.

  10. it takes a lot for someone to risk everything to open a business, especially downtown. We need more businesses downtown, not less.

  11. I think it's great that someone opened up a new business. In these times ANYONE opening up ANYTHING is a risk but these people took that risk. Now it's up to us to at least give them a chance. Maybe it'll be a fresh new beginning of memory making for those of us who remembered what it was like to go to the plaza for lunch. I'll be there next week.

  12. Downtown would be jumpin' if they give up on the 30+ year failure known as the plaza. Turn it into a real street with angled parking on one side and watch business florish. It would be a great time to scrap or at least move the obelisk now that metal prices are up. I graduated with a fine arts degree (not that it matters) and have never felt it was pleasing from any perspective. It is thought provoking though. I have often thought "what the f&%k is this suppose to represent?"

  13. Hey 5:46 and 6:17 yeah Al took a chance on his new venture cause he never paid his old landlord. When you place an order for lunch ask him about it, or better yet give him a big tip so maybe he can pay some of the money he still owes.

  15. Hey Mark, in this economy businesses are closing their doors left and right. As a business owner, you shouldnt throw stones since you too live in a glass house. Remember, business is business. Why are you making this personal?

  16. There's plenty of parking downtown and isn't there tables in the middle of the plaza. Do people really need to park right at the door of a business to be happy. Hell, just go through a drive thru and eat in your car if you need that.

  17. It would be great to see the downtown area re-done and made into a towncenter with shops and stores that people would actually enjoy going to, this new deli looks great and I can't wait to try to food. We need re invent salisbury downtown, do away with the old buildings and market salisbury in a way that will make people want to appreciate the old downtown beauty with new downtown flare!!
