The Iowa Supreme Court this morning unanimously upheld gays’ right to marry.“The Iowa statute limiting civil marriage to a union between a man and a woman violates the equal protection clause of the Iowa Constitution,” the justices said in a summary of their decision. The court rules that gay marriage would be legal in three weeks, starting April 24.
The court affirmed a Polk County District Court decision that would allow six gay couples to marry. The ruling is viewed as a victory for the gay rights movement in Iowa and elsewhere, and a setback for social conservatives who wanted to protect traditional families.

Wow, this should really boost the otherwise stagnant visitor numbers for the State.
ReplyDeleteAnd all those tuxedo rentals, wedding gowns and catering contracts!
Repent now, for the end is near.
ReplyDeletesad day for america
ReplyDeleteIf you don't want gay marriage, get rid of all the state and federal benefits that come with it, then it wouldn't be as desirable. Keep marriage in the church and keep the government benefits out of a religious institution.
ReplyDeleteWow. The Iowa statute limiting marriage to a man and a woman declared unconstitutional! All across Iowa, sheep just became very, very nervous at the sight of Farmer Brown boarding his pickem-up truck for the long trip to "the big city" for a marriage license.
ReplyDeleteSad, I agree Anon 11:14
ReplyDeleteIn the end they will pay, wait did I say that right? LOL!
ReplyDeleteActually, just because they have a piece of paper that says they are married means nothing other than benefits. It is beyond government understanding where God is involved.
Liberals think they are helping this world and in reality all they are doing is destroying it. Take a look at our mother country, England they are totally screwed up now and we are not far from it.
Muslims will take over this country and when it happens they will be put in there place in the end. Jesus will have the final say and those who believe will go through trials and win in the end.
I hope Iowa loves the heat, because in the end it will be hot in Iowa.
Now go ahead and say what you want, there is no God we evolved from apes, if that is the case by the way why do we still have apes? You have your opinions and I have mine, you better hope yours are right and mine aren't if your gay.....
Welcome to Iowa!!! The Corn-holing State!!!
ReplyDeleteI want to disclaim that I was only making an ironic joke about the simple love ONE man might have for ONE common-law sheep due to the particular wording of the statute {using this wording one could make a case now that if marriage isn't limited to ONE man and ONE woman-why can't marriage be defined as ONE man and SEVENTEEN women/sheep[s?]-god knows why any sane married man would want to put himself through such an ordeal}. Some of this other stuff is downright hateful. If you have bibles refer to the whole "be my brother's keeper"/"good Samaritan"/"do unto others" et al.....
ReplyDelete11:23 it seems every day, its something else - something that is gradually dragging this country down to where I never thought it would be.
ReplyDeleteIowa? Who would have guessed.
ReplyDelete11:14 "Repent now, for the end is near."
Whose end are you talking about? And why are you near it?
I strongly disagree with the decision. While the 60+ page decision is beautifully written, it is hollow and faulty. Aside from the immorality of the decision, this issue should be handled by the legislature, not an oligarchy. Hopefully, Iowans will petition for a Prop. 8-like amendment that will restore commonsense in that great state.
ReplyDeleteLike it or not, the ruling is correct. It is unconstitutional to discriminate period. Gays citizens have and should always have the same constitutional rights as any other citizen. Read the constitution, marriage ain't in there, discrimination is. End of story.
