Smith, Comegys & Shields

During Budget Session Meetings the Three stooges had lunch at this local restaurant this week. For what it's worth, I could see them hooking up at the Salisbury Festival and deciding to grab a bite to eat together but when you're in the middle of your Budget Session, well, it's just not an ethical thing to do. Some might say it's a quorum and they should know better. I had been hoping these three would start seeing that the taxpayers want change. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe they said absolutely nothing at all about business while they were out together. What do you think?

  1. i'm sure they paid for their lunch out of pocket and not at tax-payers expense.

  2. No one said and or suggested the taxpayers paid for their lunch.

  3. I don't know about the meeting, but Uptown Chef has very tasty food! It takes awhile to get to you, but it is worth it!

  4. This is an excellent place for lunch. Molly, the owner and chef (a CIA graduate - Culinary Institute of America, that is) really knows her stuff.

  5. Instead of commenting on how much you like the food establishment, how about being VERY concerned about meetings like this, which by the way is what the post was about!
Elected officials know better than to meet in numbers like this because it could do just what was stated, create a quorum, which would be in CLEAR violation of the Sunshine Law!
Don't know what the Sunshine Law is?
Look it up! Then hold your elected officials' feet to the fire on it or you WILL get screwed, BIG time!

  6. I attended the 'Victory Party' that Shanie Shields had at the VFW #10159 last night. It was noted that Comegys and cohorts were in attendance. Rumor has it that she is "being taken care of" by her partners for her "co-operation". My, my, the night has a thousand eyes.

  7. This same trio tried to screw Debbie and Terry when they held a meeting with the public. They sent Shanie Shields there knowing it would constitute a quorum. Debbie left the meeting until Brenda Colegrove arrived to record the session.

These three know exactly what they are doing. That Comegys statement of "I had no knowledge" just won't fly in this instance.

I'm not a fan of the 3 stooges, but don't object to this, even if they are violating the very absurd "quorum" concept of the public meetings law. I'm much more concerned about closed meetings being held to avoid public info. about matters that might embarass the mayor or council or both. That was taken to a new level under Barrie, Dunn, Bubba and Louise.

Let's hope that Jim Ireton turns a new page.

  9. If they can afford the prices at that joint, then their pay from the City is too high!

  10. Tell us where we can read about the sunshine law. This should be brought up at the next meeting of the city council. I think we need more voices at the council meetings. Without voices and concerns we will have the same old song and dance we have had. We want and need change so come and help make it happen. Attend the City Council Meetings and take our city back!

  11. This is a violation of the open meetings act.

  12. Yeah, folks were talking about how could she afford a victory party with every one's first drink on her and catered food. Well, I guess her ship has docked. As the Virginia Slims commercial used to advertise, "You've come a long way, Baby!

  13. They live high on the hog from teh state, don't you know. Shanie from her husband's employment with MD, Gary from SHA, and Louise reportedly from FL. They do know better than to be together in a group of three. Especially during a budget session this is highly questionable and perhaps illegal.

  14. They can't eat lunch? What is the problem here?

  15. Shanie is in the pocket of the landlords, which is really too bad because it is her constituents by and large that are getting screwed over by the landlords. She doesn't care. Word on the street is thata lot of landlords are really upset at SAPOA's leadership, though, so perhaps a change is on its way!

  16. they are members of our city council....thats why they dont meet for "lunch" or anything else. could be looked upon as buying each others vote at the meetings coming up whether they agree or not...so there...dont do it..

  17. You people are way too paranoid! People who are suspicious of this type of activity are usually speaking with a guilty conscience.

  18. hey-10:58 , lunch isn't the issue
idiot! You just wake up or can't you read? Oh , I'm sorry Shanie!
    get a life.

Sure they can eat lunch, but they can't have more than two council members in a room, let alone a table, because the Open Meetings act prohibits it. They COULD all have lunch together if, prior to the lunch, they advertised (with sufficient notice and handicapped accessibility provided) it as a public meeting.
Seems kind of stupid to have this rule considering that they probably all have a dozen conference calls a week. It would be interesting to get their phone records, wouldn't it?

  20. There's nothing wrong with them having luch together! My God!

    ReplyDelete
  21. They all know it is a violation. The disregard the rules at every turn. That is the problem.

  22. This is a quorum and in violation of the law. We need pictures of those 3 meeting together for proof. RECALL!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Some time ago I recall that a road trip by a quorum of a past council was a violation. The rules are the rules.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The rule is to protect the public from back room deals. WHile it may seem innocent, elected officials need to avoid this kind of thing.

  25. Let me add this once again. They are in Budget Session Meetings, HELLO!!!! This is hardly the time to be meeting as a groupo in such a sensative time!

  26. Council members should avoid even the appearance of impropriety. For three of the Council to have lunch--and everyone knows that they form a coalition within the Council--without the other two is highly improper if not a violation of the law. This sounds similar to the Market St. Inn gatherings not so long ago (and maybe still ongoing--Does anyone know?)

  27. Anon 9:54am, you forgot to mention that Barrie Tilghman was at the party also. I can't remember what Louise Smith looks like.

  28. Why didnt they all just go to lunch together?

  30. Two of them will NOT be re-elected in 2 more years!

If anyone sees them all together make sure to take a picture and send it to Joe.
