Polk Loses By ONE Vote

Shanie Shields is victorious by one single vote. More to come.

UPDATE: A recount of District 1 has been requested

  1. Bummer, she's a nice person. I think Shanie might surprise some people, though. She and Jim get along well on a personal level, so perhaps she might venture away from the Comegys camp for a vote or two. Jim has the best interests of her constituents in mind, and I think she will see that quickly.

Hope to see a big crowd at the inaugural on Monday!

  2. I feel sorry for the people that live in that district.
Everyone knows that Shannie doesnt live in Salisbury.

  3. I'm sure there's a recount brewing

  4. If she doesn't live in Salisbury, why are people not challenging that fact?

  5. Just how is it Shields gets to run for City office and she does not live in Salisbury from what I've heard? She should step down and let Cynthia represent District 1, or we should recall her!

  6. Being a former elected official here on the Shore, I can tell you, if the official moves out of the area they are elected to represent, they MUST resign immediately!
If someone can just prove she was not living in Salisbury (even down to the district) at ANY time during her tenure, I believe this would make her run for office null and void.
Especially if the time frame was within the requirements for residence prior to filing for re-election!
This really smells fishy to me. I am not from Salisbury, but I do follow Joe's blog now and then.
Only one vote separation, and it took how long to "count" that one vote? Give me a break!
It appears as though the fix was in!

  7. that says alot about the folks that live in that district. they chose that....sorry, I mean her, over Cheney AND Polk. Pathetic.

  8. Crongrats to Mrs. Shields fot winning the District One seat in Princess Anne. Wait........it's for Salisbury? But she lives in Princess Anne.

  9. Those District One non-voters are getting what they truly deserve.

No whining in the future, please.

  10. I am happy she won! and she does live in Salisbury.... Go Shanie Go! I think she will do better with Jim! Remember a CHANGE has come!

  11. But every cloud has a silver lining -- this is more reason to dump Bubba and Louweasel in two years.

    Sincerely,

    The Dirty Dozen

  12. Here's the good news:

We will enjoy watching the 3 stooges perform on TV for 2 more years, but now they won't have Barrie to block Ms. Campbell and Ms. Cohen from getting timely and complete information from the mayor's office and administration.

  13. Give due credit for the past and continuing absurdity of "District One" to the person who conned the Council into setting it up in the first place -- Robin Cockey!

PS -- he also gets credit for putting Barrie in the mayor's office in the 1998 election, and the rest, as they say, is now "history".

  14. we will no doubt continue to see the three stooges nodding together and rubber stamping everything. how is that CHANGE?

  15. It is tough to beat an incumbent...especially someone with such name recognition (good or bad news is still news).

Ms. Polk still has a challenge, which Ms. Shields did not if the one vote went the other way.

Does prove that every vote counts...so if you didn't, you can only blame yourself if not happy with the outcome.

  16. What's happened in outrageous.

If there were polling for District One at the Harvest Baptits Church, Tim Chaney would have won both the primary and general elections.

  17. 10:57 -- ever hear of John Howard Burbage? If so, where did he live while mayor of Berlin.

    Hint: go west, young man!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wanna bet Paul Wilber is breathing much easier now?

    ReplyDelete
  19. The situation in City Hall may resemble that when Paul Martin was mayor and at odds with Cockey and his clowns like Sakemiller were in the majority on the Council.

  20. Recount? Uh-oh.. is this the part where they suddenly 'discover' some overlooked absentee ballots (or perhaps boxes and boxes of them, like Al Franken did in Minn.)
Nah... they wouldn't do that here.

  21. Another missed opportunity to save Salisbury, and possibly the last one, too.

  22. 11:31, I guess we can mention Chiefy might be sighing in relief as well.

  23. My guess is, my relatives will be moving out of Salisbury. I haven't even got to talk to them yet. They had hopes with the Ireton and Campbell win, but now those are meaningless.

Your Barrie Tilghman will still control Salisbury. Your man Ireton will be frustrated at every turn. The votes will continue 3 to 2 in the wrong direction.

Sleazy campaign by that Comegys. Too suspicious for words win by the Shields woman. Your only hope would be a successful recall, but that won't happen because they'll fix that election too, or people will just sit on their butts and complain here.

  24. We can always recall Louise.

  25. To Anon 11:05,

If Shanie lives in Salisbury, then can you provide Joe with street address.

    ReplyDelete
  26. HELP IS ON THE WAY!!!!

Jim won an election against the odds thanks to the hard work of the peole of Salisbury, and he will get real change if we want it. Do not let this news discourage you; instead, let it encourage you to come on out and work for cahnge. Come to the inauguration Monday night to send a message that we really want change, and then start showing up for council meetings!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Nothing will change, it never does. You cant change Gen-Pop only avoid it.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Shanie Shields lives on Germania Circle across the street from Perdue poultry plant.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Does Shanie live there or does her daughter live there and Herbrew LeFleur lease it to her in Shanies name?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Please enlighten us about the requests for a recount of District 1.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don't know to whom the house is leased, but I doubt it is Shanie. She has a very negative and derogatory credit history.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You only wish we had a council with the dignity and respect that we had when Paul Martin was Mayor.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 1:45, can you get any proof? Can anyone?

Otherwise, it's pointless to let this accusation fly.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't know to whom the house is leased, but I doubt it is Shields. She has a very negative and derogatory credit history.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Jim, has Ms. Polk requested a recount?

    ReplyDelete
  36. 1:59 --

What are you smoking, pal. Cockey and Sakemiller treated Mayor Martin like dirt. Don't forget that Cockey and Barrie were once best buds.

    ReplyDelete
  37. A recount will take place. You all can make it known that you want change by showing up at the inauguration Monday at 6:00. Show up and let the council know we will be watching! And in the next council election, vote out Smith and Comegys.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Smith can't win another election. She won this one riding on the coattails of Spies and Cohen. Does anyone actually think Terry Cohen's supporters will vote for Louweasel again? I very seriously doubt it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. That landlord will rent to anyone. I know someone who does not work and is on welfare who lives in one of his houses. My aunt's credit is aweful and this current renter is trying to help my aunt get a place from him.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Louise has no real personality and sure did ride on Terry and Tim's coat tails. She reminds me of a mean spiteful teacher, I bet students dreaded her class. No class.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Shields victory is an outrage. Why did it take so long to count 5-10 votes? She can not see the forest for the trees. She is being used like a 10 cent whore. How can she be so out of touch with reality? Is she developmentally delayed or what.

    ReplyDelete
  42. LeFleur migrated from Haiti,so you can imagine that any source of income looks good to him. He is "renting" Shields a house because she has his back on any legislation voted on by the Council that effects landlords. A credit check would disqualify her from renting from a reputable agent. There should be some conflict of interest here.
